does the new update not allow us to transfer the saved file or even update the previous app/game?

You can transfer the save file starting from version 4.9. Earlier versions do not transfer.

thats a bummer, apparently my last version was 4.3. And that's the 2nd time I had to play through all of the material since the previous version I had didnt transfer either
