  • Graphics : A tad simplistic due to the top-down perspective but good.
  • Music / Sfx: Good although could use an extra track or two.
  • GUI : Has exactly what the game needs, no more, no less.
  • Gameplay :
    • For what is effectively devil daggers but 2d/top-down , this fits the bill quite nicely, however I do feel like this game is rather easy comparatively.
    • I feel that the scaling is a tad too slow and that there needs to be a few more enemy types to spruce things up.
  • Notes :
    • This would've been a great flash game back in the day.
    • Game's scaling feels a tad slow for my liking, especially in comparison to Devil Daggers.
    •  The R-click power attack is very satisfying.
    • I made it to 1210 score and kinda got bored as it felt like nothing more was incrementing so I purposely got reckless and got killed.
    •  I think there should be some extra enemy variety.
    • I like that the edges of the arena become 'spiky'

Overall a solid little time-waster but I do think it should get some additions to flesh it out.

Hey, thanks for playing and sharing the video link! Great feedback, especially about the difficulty progression. Looks like you've pretty much figured out the game. :) It's more of a prototype at this point, there's not much to it yet.

Hey mate,

Good little game, super solid, runs well, I had fun.

I did 3 runs, with a max score of about 750.

I think the Rage Mode could do with some changes. My experience with the Rage Mode was that for a split second I was glad to get a break from the monsters chasing me - BUT I was annoyed that they scattered to the far extents of the map. I was glad to get the break but it was annoying that it slowed down the flow state of the game.

An example of an alternative is that 'Rage Mode' could actually make all of the enemies flock to the center of the screen in a ball. In this way you must strategically see that rage mode is coming, and not get caught in the centre of it as they flock to the middle -> additionally this  makes it a 'shooting fish in a barrel' situation where not only do you get a break but you get some free time to kill as many as possible, possibly even saving up your special attack to use.

The music was incredible (almost like an 8bit crunched Mick Gordon Doom vibe), I really enjoyed the sound design overall - but especially enjoyed the music.

I have a game in the Jam also - Tetromino Runner, if you found the feedback helpful come and drop us a line!

Thanks mate, have a good one! Keep cooking!

Hi there! I've tried your demo, and I liked it!
They controls were good (i used keyboard), and it ran without any problem/lagging.
Got to score 803, and by that time it got a bit repetitive, so a few new enemies could help with that (maybe some power ups).
The rage mode could use some changes. When it activates, enemies run away in different directions and it's hard to hit them (vs them coming towards you). Maybe have them freeze in fear, wipe all enemies on screen, or make you invincible for a few secs.
Good job!

Thanks for playing, and for the feedback! Good point about the rage mode, although you are actually invincible while in rage mode. :)

Hey, I played your game!  It's very fun!  Once I got the hang of it most things were very intuitive.  I'm not a regular twin stick shooter player, but I was able to do pretty well.  And the different enemy designs were a nice challenge.  Those spiny spikey guys were tough!  But in a good way, because you can neutralize them with good aim.  And then when the parts of the pentagram started lighting up, it was a nice increase in tension.  Here are a few notes of specific thoughts I had, but overall this is a good experience:

-My aim wasn't very good, but keeping the stream of shots going let me aim pretty well.  But I sucked at aiming the power shot for some reason (like the coordination it takes to hit the right bumper while aiming with the right stick).  I wanted to remap it to the left trigger so I could aim with the regular bullets and shot the power shot, but that doesn't seem to be an option.

-The rage doesn't seem all that effective.

-The pickups and blood colors seem too similar.  Maybe try to add some contrast there.

-Any thoughts on adding leveling/upgrades/more power ups?  Could be a way to add some depth/replayability, though what you have is already pretty fun, so it depends on what kind of experience you're going for.

-Other than the issue with the power shot, the controls felt good and responsive.  I didn't use the dash as much as I could/should have, but that would probably come with more practice

Again, fun game, and nice work!

Hi, thanks for taking the time to play and give feedback on the game! I'm glad you liked it. I've got a couple of follow up questions, if you don't mind:

  • Is there anything in particular about the rage mode that you didn't like? Did you maybe find it hard to hit the demons while they are running away, or is it something else? The idea behind it is to give you a chance to take a breather, or even clear out the room quickly.
  • What high score did you manage to get?

BTW, this game is more of a prototype right now. I do have some ideas about an upgrades-based progression, and of course, re-mappable controls, if I continue developing it. :)

Hey, no problem.  Regarding rage mode, having all the enemies scatter didn't seem that helpful since it's easier to shoot them when they're in bunches.  I guess I was expecting some sort of overpowered/quad damage/slow mo where I kill everyone, rather than a time to take a breather.  If that's really what you want (taking a breather), maybe rename it something other than rage?

For high score I got 227.

let me know if you have any other questions or want me to try something else.
