Ranked from 15 ratings. Score is adjusted from raw score by the median number of ratings per game in the jam.

How does the game fit the theme?
- You fight with soldiers made from baked goods, including biscuits.
- The main character uses her own soul to fight as a cookie, which is a risk in-universe, but it's also a risky choice as a player because that unit can only be summoned once.
- Most late stages are very volatile and require you to take risks and try different strategies to win.
- In a story sense, the game's goal is to risk everything for (Princess) Biscuit.

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
All BGM is taken from Music Atelier Amacha (Amacha Studio)
All SFX is taken from Freesound (individual credits are in the game)
The font used in the game is taken from Fontspace. (Mouldy Cheese)
The UI assets used are Unity's default assets, with the exception of the circles in the Conjuring Stand which is original.

Cute cookies! This unique baking method is my favorite. It would be better if some fighting pictures and animations could be added later!

Developer

Thank you for playing!! If I continue development, I definitely would like to add animations!

Good concept, I liked the connection from the theme to cookies. Nice game. All the best!

Developer

Thank you for playing and your kind words!!

Interesting concept on the baking your troops, enjoyed it! I did have to look at the other comments that you could bake different characters which I didn't know initially and kept failing at other recipes. I think not allowing any "fail" bakes would have encouraged me to try out different combinations in an organic way :)

Developer

Thank you for playing!

The baking failures are there to increase the risk factor. you cannot take back putting an ingredient, just like real baking. However, I can put a difficulty option in the future where failed recipes would refund the ingredient points after pressing the button!

I will also make the recipe book more accessible so that players will be aware of their options :)

I really enjoyed this tower defense game, really hit the energy of a battle cats, but I mostly enjoyed the method of baking your own defenses, it sounds like a cool concept.

However, the music… you really hit on that, and with the sounds effects as well (at the beginning i had the issue that it was not working but then I discovered that it was an issue with my sound output). Music and Sounds effect are a 10/10, with the Quack of approval.

Developer

Thank you for playing and your kind words!
As for the sound, does it still not play when you slide the audio sliders on the settings menu all the way to the right? If not, then this is a serious problem I will have to look into.

No no, don’t worry, I actually even edit the comment, the problem was mine, I kind of had visits yesterday and I forgot I changed the output to the speakers (which were off when I played this game)… so I retested it again… and I’m happy I did because the music and the sound effects are great! :D

Developer

I'm glad to hear it wasn't an issue! I didn't make the audio myself, but I really like Amacha Studio's free to use bgms so I used them here! Once again thank you for playing!

Honestly a super fun concept! The feedback I'd give mainly is to have some different way of easier accessing the recipe book (I saw it mentioned in other comments as well, but just thought I'd confirm it as well), other than that I feel like a bit more polish like balancing, etc. would've elevated the game a lot. However, besides those things, I actually had fun playing the game and think the idea is really cool, the art and music/SFX were also really cute! And I loved that the tower visuals actually changed depending on the health! Nice entry!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the kind words and feedback! I agree with the points you put forward, more polish and balancing would help the game a lot and I am considering it if I go for a full release! Thanks for playing :)

This was fun, great music choices! I didn’t feel like I had much control/ability to win in the last fight, but I did enjoy trying to get through it. Good work!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!

I'm sorry for the balancing issues, I had to hurry up level design and playtesting due to time constraints, so I am aware the difficulty is higher than intended. I'm glad the game was still enjoyable for you!

Well done! Beautiful graphics and cool concept re: fighting as baked goods :P Great SFX. It'd be nice if the recipe book was somewhere more easily accessible instead of in the pause menu; after a while I just kept making gingerbreads bc they were the easiest to remember lol

Developer

Thank you for playing!! I appreciate the feedback. Seeing as multiple people suggest it, I will definitely work on improving the recipe book and making it more accessible if I develop the game further!

I love these types of strategy games! I really like the mechanics of building your army with ingredients, the possibilities for types of allies are endless. :)

Quick feedback:

  • Great use of storytelling with the tutorial! Although a little text heavy, I was able to follow how the game worked easily.
  • I wish there was an easier way to access the recipe book to create your army instead of clicking through the Pause menu. Maybe a little book icon in the UI?

Overall, I love the direction of the artwork created and the game difficulty gradually increased for each level and wasn't too hard. I would like to see this game develop even further, it's such a cute and fun concept! Great work for putting all of this together for the one week game jam! :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the feedback and kind words :)
1. I initially wanted to make a realtime tutorial that went with the player as they play, but the timeframe didn't allow for it. I'm glad the current version of the tutorial still served its purpose!
2. That would really help! Because I knew most of the recipes by heart, I didn't realize how often a player would need the recipe book. I'll keep it in mind if I continue development for the game!

I love these based battle games.  I wouldve loved to be able to bake different types of cookies based on different ingredients combinations. But I know that is too much to ask for a gj :) great job

Developer

Thank you for the kind words! There's only 5 unit types and all except the Avatar Cookie use only one recipe! I wanted to add more unit types and a feature where tweaking the recipe would lead to slightly altered units, but I didn't want to contribute to scope creep at that stage of development, so I stuck with what we currently have.

The game is cute and beautiful, you could update this in the future, maybe putting new maps. I really enjoy this!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it! I don't know if I will work on it later but if I do then new levels or maybe a hard mode would be possible!

Submitted(+1)

The cookies are so cute! I really like the mechanics of building your army based on the ingredients! It would be great to have a visual aid to see the possibilities and ingredients, but the idea has a lot of potential. Congratulations on your work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much! Your feedback is much appreciated, I agree that the game would work better with more visual aids in general. I don't know if I plan to improve it further post-gamejam, but if I do I'll definitely keep it in mind!

super cute! I love the fact that I can enjoy crafting / baking while battling ~ the music made it more epic too. also really appreciated the tutorial, so it was a great user experience as well

Developer

Thanks a lot! I wish I could have made the tutorial more hands on and less wordy, but I'm glad it's well received nonetheless. All the epic music in the game is taken from amacha music!

Very fun. 10/10

Thank you!!

very good work with the theme

the art and intro sequence to the tutorial was very good

the gameplay with the combining to make little cookie defenders was enjoyable

i think you have potential to develop this into a full game ^^

Developer

Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed the experience and I'm honored to hear you think it could be a full game!

The baked good and tea-enemies are very cute! It was fun playing around with the ingredients to see what kind of units could be summoned. Overall a delicious game! :]
