Theme

Festival City (Bird team)

Correlation to theme
Hello! This is my entry. As per usual, I created lore for this track. "Lost in the fabric between space and time, there exists a town formed from the desire of a goddess. The inhabitants of this town are captives forced into a life of prayer dedicated to the goddess. An eternal festival is held here, and it is through this festival that the power of prayer reaches her." As a nod to the theme, I used the sounds of fireworks for the percussion. In particular, I used the "pops," that you hear when fireworks are shot up into the sky, and a section of a fizzling firework as the hi-hat sound.

This has a cool industrial druid-like sound (the first I’ve ever heard from this genre I must say). The voices are whimsical and enchanting and fit very well with your theme! I think the idea of taking samples of fireworks is a very creative idea and adds to the celebratory feel of this track! Thanks for sharing!

Cool ambient track, I can defitely see what you meant with your lore description for the track. It feels like a bunch of voices that decended into madness after a long time of seeing no goddess to help.

Amazing work!

When I first listened to it, I hadn't read your lore. And I didn't understand the woman's voice. The fact that it's the goddess is a brilliant idea.

It's a shame that the ending is so abrupt, unless it's to show that when the party ends, the goddess dies immediately.

Developer

Yup! The choir is indeed meant to represent the goddess in the grand scheme. As for the ending, its meant to loop back to the beginning, thus why I pulled away most of the layers, so as to telegraph the return to the beginning.

I love the story of this one. You captured the dark intensity of this unwilling eternal festival well. I especially like 1:03 to the end. The industrial sound you got from the firework samples is allowed to shine, and the driving force of the music really fits your interpretation of the theme.

Some parts of the loud reedy melodic instrument from 47s - 1m sounded like they were shifted down a half step from where they were supposed to be, in a way that didn't feel intentional and made me wonder if a set of notes was accidentally shifted.

Very cool and creative track.

Developer

Thanks! I think the notes that you are mentioning are the intentional chromatic notes that I added because I wanted the melody to have a slightly jazzy hint to it, which I wasn't really able to do in the F Lydian Mode I was using.

Nice to see you again! It has been a while since I last heard a track from you.

I love the vocals on the song. It fits the concept of 'prayer dedicated to the goddess'. And I really love the choice to turn actual fireworks into percussion. While you don't hear it back much, just the thought intrigues me! The song doesn't a classical 'festival' vibe, but I definitely hear what you're putting down.

Some notes are a bit awkward though, like at 0:35, 0:47 and 0:56. They appear to clash a lot with the underlying harmony. It personally isn't my cup of tea, but I dig the creative choice.

Overall, love to see you again here. I still remember you from awesome entries like 'City of Octopolis - Pearl of the Octopoids' from the first Town Music Jam, and 'Haven of the Ancient Claw' from the third Town Music Jam. Really like to see you here again :)

Thanks! I've been doing a lot of music in recent time and have recently uploaded new music to my youtube~

Most of the firework percussion is taken from a sample of the pop you hear when fireworks are fired off, and the hi-hat standin was taken from a sample of those fizzling fireworks that you hear.

I think the "clashing notes," that you're hearing is when I added in some chromatic/off-key notes. I was mainly composing in F Lydian Mode, iirc, and there were a few moments where I went off-key. I mainly did this because I wanted to give a slight jazzy vibe to the melody, and staying in F Lydian just wasn't cutting it for that.

You missed one -- I also did Malcontent Bones - Theme of Yuwal, haha.

Cool! It seems I am not the only one who tried composing in Lydian this time :)

Haha, I did not really "miss" 'Malcontent Bones - Theme of Yuwal', as I do also have that saved on my iTunes. In fact, I also have 'Zee's Kitty Cat Emporium of Catty Kittys' for fun ;). The two songs I mentioned are simply my favorites from you, and inspired me when I started out!

That's nice to hear, and I like to hear that someone out there is enjoying my music~

I also like to hear that you enjoy Haven of the Ancient Claw, because while I do like it, I do have some minor gripes with it when listening to it nowadays. Mainly that I feel like I use the roar sound a bit too repetitively in the beginning. You can get away with repeating sounds like that in a track, but only if it blends in well, and I feel like it kinda sticks out and you can "feel," the repetitiveness of it, if that makes sense.

At any rate, I'm going to be very active on my youtube, musically, so if you like my music, I'd recommend keeping an eye out there.

Nice track, I can totally hear your story in it! I really loved the vocals^^

Developer(+1)

Thanks!

The vocals come to you courtesy of the "Shevannai - Voice of the Elves," VST.

the notes got really discordant at times which I see was done to fit the lore, but it doesn’t feel very “festival” to me.

The percussion being samples of fireworks however does feel very festival to me and was an excellent addition.

Developer

Yeah, I guess I can see your point in that it doesn't sound like . . . I dunno, I did consider scrapping it for a more circusy feel at one point, but I was already far along. I was trying to capture a happyish vibe because festivals are supposed to be fun, yeah? But, it's also meant to sound like a corruption of that.

Submitted

I liked it, it sounds experimental

I really like it i feel like the instruments used to make the lead in 0:44 were alittle of sync from each other and also off pitch sometimes the vocals are really good and the drums are really good!

Developer

The instruments are in sync, but when you say off-pitch, do you mean off-key, or . . .?

If you mean literally off-pitch, then it could just be the timbre of the patches, haha.

If you mean off-key, there are indeed some chromatic elements I threw in there that are not part of the F Lydian Mode that I was composing in. (I think it was F Lydian.)

At any rate, thanks~

Submitted

i ment off key yea sorry, i think it just like felt too out of place from the first lead that was without it maybe if there was a bit of in the first lead it would be more natural

Submitted

Really dig the vocal samples and how they’re all chopped up and weird

Developer(+1)

Thanks~

The vocal sample comes to you courtesy of the "Shevannai - Voice of the Elves," VST.

The "chopped up and weird," effect is due to a portamento effect. (Pitch-Sliding to other notes.)

i loved the vocal sample and the biting dissonance of the trumpet

Developer

Thanks!

The vocal is the VST "Shevannai: Voice of the Elves," and the trumpet is 2 saxophones and a trumpet iirc.

I almost made it more dissonant to fit with the lore by layering some discordant notes, but it felt a bit too grating, haha.
