How does the game fit the theme?
The Crumbgeon is a sweet yet crumbly adventure where you play as a macaron on a mission to rescue your shattered love. Navigate the scorching maze, dodge the cookie’s traps, gather all 7 lost crumbs, and piece your sweetheart back together!

You risk it for the biscuit (or the macaron).

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
SFX are from a free library.
Materials for the portals.
The 3 Niagara effects (fire, hit and exhaust) are heavily modified but based on synty assets.

Loved the very pleasant visuals in this game, everything from the 3D models, UI, cutscenes, to level designs! Great use of dithering material to help with the camerawork too. It seems that the lost crumbs restore after returning them, so you could technically collect only the easy ones to win the game. Nevertheless, it was fun exploring the levels!

peak game changed my life for the better

Love the visuals for the game! The gameplay felt a little weird at first but once I got used to the movement it was fun. Some of the obstacles were really slow, which made it a bit frustrating when I died because I was waiting on cycles for a long time, especially for the spikes. Other than that, really good job guys!

Dude this game is incredible, I loved the aesthetics of the game and the gameplay was also really fun. It kinda felt funny when I found out that walking diagonally and sideways was faster than walking up or down, but it's alr lol. Overall absolutely fantastic game guys, congrats!

The visual is top notch in this submission! Yet it still functional as a level with all the placement and made the adventure more alive. The main issues is the file is so big, and i do understand why after saw the visual for myself. Great games!

Hi,

Glad you liked the game :)

Very visually appealing and thematic, gameplay is nice.
There seems to be some issues with optimization though, at least for me, from the moment the game launches it CPU & GPU usage shoot up to 90-100%, this might be the fault of unreal being demanding, or the models/lighting systems are too high quality perhaps?

Developer(+1)

Hi,

Yes unreal like many softwares will use the resources available on your PC at launch to precalculate a lot of things, which is normal and not a problem; computers are made to use their ressources. Its only become a problem if the ressources stay stuck at 100% for a moment ( several minutes).

Also the load is only at the beginning, unreal release the ressources after a few seconds. The game have been tested on differents computers and I didn't see any problems, game runs smoothly on every rig I tried. If there is some issues during the game it might be issues on your side...

Anyway I'am glad you like it :)

Thanks for the clarification! Just to be clear, on my system the usage doesn’t drop after launch — it stays around 80–90% CPU/GPU the entire time. Other Unreal jam games don’t behave like this on my rig, so I don’t think it’s just a hardware issue on my end.

And please don’t take it the wrong way (the game is good!), I’m only sharing my experience. There’s really no reason a small jam game should be hitting the same usage as something like Horizon Zero Dawn, especially in the main menu, where nothing heavy is being rendered or loaded.

Of course, computers are made to use their resources, but ideally in proportion to what the software is doing. When a jam project uses as much as a massive AAA title, that usually means there's room for optimization

It's not game-breaking since it runs smoothly, but I figured I'd mention it as feedback. It might just be default Unreal settings (lighting, post-processing, etc.) keeping the hardware load unusually high.

Hi! I'm one of the 3D artists! I hope you guys enjoy our game! It was our first game jam and we had a blast making this!!

This was really cute! love all the extra care you all took in the art, including the homepage. The rendering of the 3d models is nostalgic, reminds me of old pc games. I encountered a few tricky areas in the mazes (cookies blocking my view of the floor burners lol) but I like that the game just booted you back to the start point and you didnt have to completely start over. The levels getting more burnt as you progress was fun (esp. the dead cookies RIP)

Thanks for the kind words :)
