How does the game fit the theme?
The gameplay of Alice having to navigate the platformer levels while losing wax constantly creates a tense loop of bursts of platforming and then quick respite at wax piles.

Any mistake could potentially cause the player to lose a life, hence the theme, 'Risk it for the Biscuit".

She's also literally trying to make biscuits *wink wink, nudge nudge*

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
None

How many people worked on the game?

Lovely visuals! I really like the art style. Come across some bugs, animation stucks and you could use more music and sound parts to make the atmosphere better.  Overall i had a good time, great work!

Nice little game! Could use some back ground music. Also felt like there was not enough time between wax refill stations. And lastly there was a bug when in double jump and landing in a corner it force sits indefinitely and results in not being able to jump. Regardless, good work! *this game was live reviewed here:  twitch.tv/gratefulllyivory (will post vod after stream)

The visuals are the main star here. I got stuck at some point where Alice was stuck in a falling animation and I couldn’t jump. Then I tried dashing, and then Alice’s sprite vanished…

Five stars for the art alone. Alice herself look a m a z i n g and the enviroments are not far behind. The whole idea of being in a constant state of melting makes for a horrific image. Beautifully twisted.

I feel the time preasure could have been a bit more forgiving though, no time for second guessing here.

I like the visuals a lott!! I did notice the lack of music, and sometimes the timings were pretty close, but I really enjoyed it!

I enjoyed the visuals. Alice, weird fonts, violet color. Really cool. The gameplay is alright

I like the art here, but there could be more music and sound effects. Overall still pretty good!

Gotta say, having only like two total sounds makes things feel very empty, and there only being two levels that felt pretty simple made the implementation of the theme feel a bit lacking, it was pretty easy to handle things while largely ignoring the dwindling wax. The art was really cute though, Wax Alice feels like an interesting character to grow.

As an aside, on level 2 if you double jump and dash across the 4 red mushroom things and then go through the black platform as it appears you become stuck in the fall state unable to get out of it until you die. It's a fairly small bug but just thought I'd let it be known.

Overall: A really fun platformer where you play as Alice and have to run from candle to candle so as not to melt. It was a great experience for a jam entry and I’d love to see a framework like this used in a full game.

Hits:

  • You nailed the theme implementation. It’s quite literally “RISK IT FOR THE BISCUIT!”
  • The platforming feels polished enough to play comfortably.
  • The setting, and art were on point! I really liked those!

Opportunities:

  • Some background music would have helped set the tone.
  • An indicator of where the ingredients are would have been helpful; in one level I went to the left and stumbled upon the cat and it turns out that the ingredient was in the complete opposite side of the map so I had to backtrack all of that.
