How does the game fit the theme?
You are betting your body parts for meaningless prizes where you hardly even have any control over the outcome, literally are you willing to risk it all for a partially eaten biscuit?
What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?

Just love the concept of a bug fight in a cardboard box, that's hilarious. Even more so with the stakes. I was having a hard time figuring out which bug was the best bug to play with, I kept losing hah. Fun concept. I had one bug where the surgeon's items were all blacked out. solid execution for the scope though. With the hand remaining on the screen, I wanted to shake the box to encourage the fighting or have something to do while the battle played out. Also wasnt 100% sure what the dash looked like or if it was doing anything. Having more HP just seemed like the way to outlast the opponent. Nice game!!
The surgeon's items being blacked out was not cause of one of the bugs but because you lost your eyes! The leg dash is a short boost in speed every few seconds, it's a bit hard to see though unless you look carefully cause we didn't think we could do a position modifying dash well, def something to look at in terms of making more visually noticeable in the future. And I totally wanted to try and make the hand retract while the round was playing but that was just another thing that we didn't have time for (I did make it so your hand becomes a left hand or ghost hand depending on what you've lost though, proud of that bit!), though shaking the box could be fun but no idea how that'd work.
Man, the music make me wanna give all out of my body part for my bug (and yeah i did it). It's fun and simple, love to see each bug fight, even i dont had eyes too. Great game!
Yooo I’m glad you thought the music was good!!
Humourous and engaging. I am not usually impressed by game where players have little agency because they don't keep me interested in the outcome, but that's not the case with this game. Good work!
super fan and easy to play great game (super fun!) keep up the good work, i got a bottlecap some gum and a paperclip
Very fun game , I have no idea how you thought of this lmao , the art looks gorgos and the game is very fun overally , i wish i had the option to not pick any organ tho cause sometimes i just wanna go for a glass canon build.
The idea came by way of: Making a list of potential ideas around risk and biscuits -> one idea was "insane stakes on mundane things" because if the theme is risk you don't want to half-ass the stakes -> what's more insane stakes than betting your own body? -> one of us didn't want to do anything gore-y so instead lean into the absurdity of it and therefore need something absolutely stupid to bet on -> the phrase "funny bug cockfighting" being said -> we like ai battles so let's make a fight where you don't actually control your bug.
Also the reason to force picking an organ is so that there's at least some risk every round.
This game is great I could grab some chips and watch the bugs fight for hours!
The artwork looks really nice, and visually I don’t have a single negative thing to say. Maybe the attack feedback for the bugs could be a bit stronger, so the hits feel more impactful. The sounds are also very good, and the background music stays pleasant no matter how long you play.
The concept is really cool, but I feel like there’s a fundamental issue with the mechanics. The idea of using organs to take risks and empower your bug is great, but in practice, I always felt forced to go all-in. If I use fewer organs, I’m too weak and almost certainly lose. If I use all of them, I become strong enough that my chances of losing drop drastically. After a while, this removed the tactical element of the game, since I always just threw in everything I had.
Maybe organs could apply both buffs and debuffs, so going all-in wouldn’t always be the optimal choice. Or perhaps they could sometimes buff the opponent instead, adding more strategy to each round. As it stands, holding organs back just feels like I’m intentionally making myself weaker, which makes little sense since I’d risk losing them if I fail.
If this part were adjusted, the game could become much more balanced and strategic.
That aside, everything else was very positive enough that I’ve added it to my list, and I’ll be looking forward to future updates!
As a side note: I have to mention the game over screen when I saw my bugs resting in my grave, my eyes almost teared up. :D :D
Thank you so much for the feedback! I’m glad you enjoyed the visuals, I was a bit unsure about them so it’s nice to hear people liked them. As for the issue of betting organs, we’ve definitely received a lot of feedback about that, and a downside for betting each organ is definitely one of the first things we’re adding - thank you so much for bringing it up, it’s really nice to know where to improve.
I’m happy you like the music, i spent a long time on it! I really like your suggestions saying that maybe a good “debuff” would be to buff your opponent. We’ve received a lot of feedback on the balance, so we have a lot to consider! Thanks for playing and the thoughtful write up!
The insect battle theme is the most awesome.
I jumped and smashed my way across the river. great job
I’m glad you enjoy the battle theme! I had a lot of fun making it
Awesome, kinda addicting. It feels like old flash pet battlers. I like how stylistic and dirty it all feels. Creepy crawly and uncomfortable. The death screen is hilarious. There's quite a bit of replayability value as well, feels like a complete package that's just well thought out and executed on. I'm struggling to think of anything that feels like it's missing.
My bug is useless ARGHHH the fella had 1hp left :(
Very well polished and fun game, risking factor makes a big difference too. Love it, great job
VERY cool concept for the game. Loved the music and the visuals and the silly meme death screen. Beetle OP and ended my run, but that adds replayability. I do think that the decision process is non-existent lol, there is no downside unless you lose so just spam all organs and pray. Really neat game! Awesome job!
Thank you for the feedback, very glad you enjoyed! We've definitely noticed the issue of just betting everything being a very powerful strategy - we're looking into ways to polish that up and handle the issue. Of course, if you bet all your organs and lose then you're just out of luck, but especially in the early rounds it's not enough of a risk to worry about it without some sort of downside to betting in the first place right now.
I'm glad you liked the music! Spent longer than I should've on it!
Interesting game, I see how it can be expanded even more with lot's of content.
Don't know why I need to bet human organs to improve my bug, but I see how it would be cool to grow bugs and mutate them with different mutagens to add new abilities and improve stats. And before the fight I need to choose from my collection a bug and he can actually die. So yeah, cool idea, maybe these thoughts will inspire you.
As from things to improve, the actual fight feels way to random, and sometimes it's painful to look at 2 bugs just run around and cannot touch each other in like a minute.
Overall good job!
Thank you for the feedback! While your idea of growing and mutating bugs sounds very interesting and exciting, that kind of sounds like a completely different game concept. Perhaps more stat modifiers could be interesting, though. The reason for betting human organs was primarily because it sounded like a comically over-the-top thing to bet on something as random and pointless as bug fights. As for the slowness of the fights, we're looking into a way to perhaps speed things up a bit - we've gotten a decent amount of feedback about that. Thanks for taking the time to review!
I can finally play a game similar to those fighting reels on Instagram XD. I like the artstyle, the unique abilities and everything in general. One thing I would change would be the bugs' AI though. The enemy is a bit too smart sometimes. Overall fun and interesting game, I hope you enjoyed the jam and get a nice ranking :)
Thank you for playing and for your feedback! I'm glad you liked it. The bugs' AI is actually the same for the player and the enemy, and the organs the enemy chooses are randomized, but maybe we should rig things a bit so the enemy doesn't pick super strong organs in the early rounds. I hope you enjoyed the jam and get a nice ranking, as well!
fellow bug game!! Really fun auto battler. I'm a fan of the setting, the bugs and the names and the surgeon all have a lot of character. The fights can be pretty exciting and close sometimes but then other times I felt like they would drag on a little (which made me scared to buy the organ that would kill you after a certain amount of time) haha. i think thats the only thing, that it could be balanced a little better but all in all really good job!!!
Thank you for the feedback, I’m really glad you liked the game, fellow bug game maker! We’ve definitely received a lot of feedback about some fights dragging on, hopefully we’ll be able to find a proper solution while keeping the tension high. For the record, by the way, the lungs only put you on a timer if you lose them, not if you buy them - no organ has a downside just for owning them, so you don’t need to worry about that (although actually, that kind of sounds like a fun mechanic…) - that could probably be communicated better, though, so thank you very much for bringing that up!
no my bad i worded it poorly. i know they only give you the downside when you lose but since i wasnt always winning and sometimes the fights would last for a while that one was a risky pick. But yeah i could totally see some organs with downsides for just owning them be a cool mechanic too!
Ahh, that makes sense - glad that was being communicated properly, sorry for my misunderstanding. Thank you very much!
Alright this HAS to be the most fun game Ive played in this jam and probly will (Im NOT kidding!)
Like I too made a betting game and THIS was the kind of feeling I was hoping to generate in the player while playing (I didnt succeed xD)
But you guys reallly did
Like,
- I loved how you explain the game with real life things, Like every mechanic is much easier to grasp and quickly understand through that medium even WITH there being soo many mechanics
- The fights genuinely look AMAZING, like they are almost always a close fight making them them have a real thrill and it really makes my brain making that happy chemical
For the powerups or organs, for the most part I really like them, but some feel a bit too weak and others a bit too op
Like the shield on the left/right that came with the kidney felt a bit weak
On the other hand, the dodge one that came from the brain felt a bit too op cuz my beetle almost always dodged an attack after getting that ability
Its still very fun but I do think it can be a bit more balanced
Also the art and the music complemented the game perfectly. I loved how the game had this semi diegetic ui (Idk what you call it :P) Like the fight taking place in a cardboard box and being able to see our own body while betting with organs.
I think my only complaint rn would be the balancing as it is a bit easy right now, like some organs seem a little too broken.
But overall, you guys did a REAL solid job with this one.. GGs to you all!
Yooo so glad to hear that it was the most fun game for you. I've been thinking about how the game I made for the GMTK jam a month ago was just purely narrative and wasn't really meant to be fun (it was meant to be depressing) while this one has no narrative at all (luckily not being rated here yay) and is purely focused on it being a fun lil game. Also yeah, we did not have time to balance at all, for instance how much player health you lose when losing an organ was entirely just me tossing some numbers in with barely any thought just so I could ensure that bit worked. But at least it seems things aren't unbalanced enough to take away all the fun at least!
I’m really happy you liked the music! I spent a lot of time on the music and audio!
Wow, this is a really cool game!
Cool game! Love to gamble some organs for my spider pet. Really unique idea.
This is super fun and the visual style is great. So good gettings to watch the bugs duke it out. Sound effects and music were also really good. I did have some fights drag out a bit, but if it weren't so hands off randomness-wise they wouldn't be so nail biting so I didn't mind too much (maybe could have had a round timer or something). Really enjoyed it
Glad you enjoyed! Yeah, the issue of fights dragging on a bit is a bit of a problem - we were considering maybe nerfing some of the healing organs a bit, and a round timer could also be nice (though there's an organ that puts you on a timer if you lose it so we were worried about overlap there). It's definitely something we'll play around with! Thanks for the feedback!
Awesome work, really fun to what bugs battle
Awesome work! This is a really unique idea, and the way it's executed is so stylish and fun. The randomized name suggestions are a nice touch!
I had crazy fun with this one, artstyle remind me of kongregate/newgrounds games. Gameplay and the economy system did not shine as much as I started to play the All In route. Yet I belive it fits the theme perfectly. It has a great overral aestethic and the combats feel great.
Glad you enjoyed! Yeah, there's not a whole lot of incentive to not just bet everything since it can give you such a big advantage - we were planning to perhaps have some of the debuffs for losing an organ (or at least tamer versions of them) apply during the match the organs were being bet in, in order to force players to give it a bit more thought, in a later update. That, or perhaps some other limit or cost to playing too many organs at once.
