Wow, what a cool idea for a breakout twist. I enjoyed it even though I sucked at it :)
Thank you! And thanks for playing. Don't worry, the single piece of feedback I've gotten from everyone is that it's too hard.
I just finished the level! I didn't know if there was anything after that but it was pretty cool, and I love games that revisit familiar gameplay mechanics.
I noticed something about the difficulty that I typically would expect to increase gradually, but actually decreased as I destroyed blocks, because the remaining blocks are further away from the paddles, giving me more time to react and making it easier to predict the colors.
Overall the game was challenging but in a fun way since I got better and better at the mechanics, and the visuals were great!
Congrats on finishing the level, you were one of the few! That's a really interesting point you make about the difficulty decreasing as you progress. Kinda makes me think I should combine this with a Tetris-like mechanic, where you start with fewer blocks and have to try to clear them before more appear and shorten the distance to your paddles...
Anyway, thanks for playing, and thanks for the feedback!
Very creative and fun!
A bit more distance at the beginning so it's easier to react to color changes would be nice, especially since it's not clear what the color order is going to be at first.
Otherwise amazing work!
Thanks! Glad you liked it! Yeah, every single reviewer has mentioned the difficulty level, clearly I was too used to playing my own game lol. If I get back to it after the jam, I will look at that.
Totally love the idea and could see myself immersed in this for a long time! The visuals are so pretty and the sounds/music fit well. I think maybe if the difficulty was ramped up a bit slower it would be easier to get into. Like starting with two colors and then slowly going up to 4 or something.
Thanks for playing! And totally, the difficulty started way too high and should be ramped up over time. Starting with just a few colors and building from there is a great idea.
Holy crow, the juice, the difficulty, the sound, this was a blast! Very unique take on the breakout formula, very fun!
Thank you, and thanks for playing!
This is a very clever idea! i like it a lot! it was a liiitle bit difficult to get the hang of but i ended up getting the stage finished after a few tries! the only thing catching me out wass, maybe when i was hitting the gaps between the blocks i would expect one color to come back but it would bounce a ton of times then come back as something i wasn't expecting >.<
the polish is really nice, the way the stars zoom past when you open the stage and the pulse of the blocks all looks really cleann!
awesome job!! :D
Thanks so much for playing! I'd say the feedback has been pretty consistent that the difficulty is too high. But your specific note is something I noticed myself while playing, and will definitely try to address if I get around to sprucing up the game post-jam.
I love the twists on breakout: multiple and circular paddles, and color changing blocks and ball. Very creative! The music was nice and chill, and the background nice without being too distracting. My own regret is not having enough space between my paddles and the center blocks. Sometimes it’s difficult to swing the right color around in time. That being said, I bet a little bit of practice might help too, heh. Very nice and clean.
You know what? I was asking myself all along if the bricks needed to be smaller, or fewer, or if the screen needed to be larger, precisely to allow a little more room between the paddles and the blocks. Also, I spent so much time playtesting that I lost all sense of proportion regarding the difficulty level. I was actually worried it would be TOO easy. FWIW, it is possible to finish the level. (I promise!)
Anyway, thanks for playing!
It is a little on the tricky side, but once I started getting the hang of it's pretty fun. Very interesting take on the game with great vibrant visuals. Nice work!
Thanks! Really appreciate that! Yes, I may have underestimated the difficulty level... but I can assure you that if you keep at it for a few weeks like I did, you can win more than half the time lol.
Fantastic chill breakout, I absolutely SUCK at it tho!
Thanks for playing! I think I fell victim to the classic mistake of believing that everyone would be as good at it as I was after spending two weeks working on it. (Would you believe I was worried it was too easy?)
Nice job, I only managed to destroy about 3 bricks before dying, so didn't get very far. Music and style were just right.
Thank you! Glad you liked it! I'm definitely getting the sense from the comments that it is too hard...
