How does the game fit the theme?
The main mechanic of Candy Calamity is to collect cookies to get a high score. By attacking, you increase your cookie multiplier, and by shielding, you cause it to decrease rapidly.
So, the theme being "risk it for the biscuit", you must be as offensive as possible and risk getting hurt in order to get more cookies :)
What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
The fonts and the music were not made by us.

That was fun. Cute art. My favorite thing was the audience, but I don't know why. Good job, and good luck in the jam!
You would have loved the original audience. First draft had the stands packed, but I was worried it was making the loading time too long so I cut the numbers down significantly. I'm not sure if it made a difference but I didn't have the time to really test it.
After the jam, I'm gonna upload a bug fixed version, and maybe I'll try to add back the audience to see if it actually makes a difference. Thanks for playing!
An interesting idea! The refresh rate of 100 and beyond is extremely hard. The art is good and the music is decent. Good job!
Really cool idea, pretty fun. It can use more things, like more upgrades and such. I feel this game were more fleshout it can be great game. The art is good and I really like the sound effects. The bug of refresh rate really needs to be fixed, but in a way, gives a bit more challenging, maybe if you guys decide to continue working on it, maybe try to design a challenged/upgrade based on it. Like 144hz is pretty impossible, 75hz is hard and fun.
Overall cool game, good potential
Biscuit DOOOOM!
Cool, very theme accurate and i love music and vibe. Bit to hard for me but i enjoyed it!
This game really fit my needs to oblitirate marshmallows to gain cookies to gain multipliers. Also dying with GLORY was propably the best part, just when i started i would go shield mode, get a lot of enemies after me and then absolutely DESTROY those marshmallows
Had so much fun trying to lure as many enemies as possible while holding shield, then dying with glory and killing them all! Great job in this game!!
Loved the audio contrast with the visuals. It worked really well. Cool mechanics and gave off the whole 'one more time' feel!
Really cool artwork and nice execution of the concept. Great job.
Got 2712!
Really fun game. I'm a sucker for really crude, hand drawn pixel art, so this was a blast for me.
Also, I might know, what causes the faster speed bug. I had a problem in my first game, where the character moved at random speeds, because I added speed on every update, which was called based on refresh rate, or whenever my computer wanted it to, but you can use fixedUpdate or divide speed by time elapsed from last Update.
Nice!!! Congrats on the score!
And yeah, I think you're totally right. For this game I was trying a new way of handling movement and it looks like I'm just not taking delta time into account. After the jam, I'm gonna dig back in and see if I can fix it so it runs at the correct speed.
Thanks for playing, and thanks for the advice :)
Thank you for this game, it was so much fun to play and smash marshmallows, felt like a true gladiator!
Nice!! Congratulations on the score and thanks for playing! Glad you had fun.
the marshmallows always end me
Super fun and addictive. Music was sick and really fit in to the gameplay, especially if you're set to 144hz :P
A score leaderboard would have been cool and incentivizing
Hahaha I'll have to try that speed after I've had my coffee.
Thanks for playing and I'm glad you enjoyed it. A leaderboard would be awesome but unfortunately I have no idea how to implement one and I just ran out of time. Maybe if we decide to work on it after the jam, I'll add one.
I really enjoyed the music, it added to the chaos. Best score was 70 something. I like the different enemy types!
It's so chaotic and fun. The music is amazing, it took me by surprise the first time. My highest score was 84, I don't know if that's good or not, but I had so much fun!
Awesome! I'm glad you had fun!
Wow. It’s super fast! I got 78! Haha.
If I may ask, how fast is it exactly? We realized that on our friend's machine, it seems to run at like twice its normal speed (to the point of unplayability) and we don't really know why. Trying to figure out how common this bug is.
Sorry, I’ve been trying to figure out how to show you this. I recorded a short video, but since I don’t have a video account, I just uploaded it to GitHub for now. Here’s the link: temp_video.
It’s after 4 a.m. here, so I have to get some sleep now. I’ll get back to you when I wake up.
Yup, that's the bug. If you want to see how the game is supposed to look, we found that if you set your monitor's refresh rate to 60hz, that might help. But yeah, that's a bug with the movement code, it's not supposed to be that fast haha.
Anyway, thank you so much for the video, it was really helpful. hope you get some good sleep!!
Yeah, I set my monitor’s refresh rate to 60hz and it’s ok now!
Excellent. Thanks again for your help. Gonna have to fix that bug after the jam haha
You’re welcome! Good luck with the bug fix.
So fast-paced and so chaotic. I love it! The music fits the scene so well. Great work!
Found it fun and really difficult, my best was like 50. Good Job!
The music and visuals in the game are nice, but the character's speed and repulsiveness are pretty high for me)
anjoyable concept, cute art. good concept
