I have new demo v0.3 with many improvements you suggested, thank you, see https://ovo6.itch.io/digsite/devlog/1060064/new-demo-version-v03
I played this game on stream: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2565553540?t=00h01m01s
I didn't get very far in the game because I couldn't figure out how to play, or messed up the tutorial or something. I started a dig site, but I was unable to find any artifacts. Then since I didn't have the hammer to make more dig sites, I was stuck. I tried driving in the desert but it was all empty..
Perhaps have more hints in the game, and/or replace the hammer during the early stages (maybe some NPC offers another one?)
Thanks for playing, yes I need better tutorial.
I truly had SO much fun with this game. I dunno why, but I was super charmed by the graphical style, and being able to jump between isometric view and first person is really neat.
I will say, though, that the first person controls feel a bit jittery? I dunno how to describe it kind of feels like the camera doesn't move super smoothly with the mouse. I also think the controls could potentially be simplified a bit? I kept trying to click to use my items, instead of pressing the E button. I think it might feel better to have the click button grab ONLY when you've got the hand as your active tool, and clicking with any other item does that item's action? That being said, I *did* mostly play in first person, so maybe the controls make more sense in the other view.
Overall, though, this game was so thoroughly charming. I was so excited from the very start when Mr Archeologist was looking at my mouse. The mechanics were fun to play around with, and I'm excited to see more! ESPECIALLY whatever this cursed artifact mechanic ends up being! Hubba hubba!
I played the game on stream here around 33:00
Thanks for playing and for tips for improvement.
I wish I could say I had fun, but this game feels extremely unpolished in terms of design despite how good it looks for a low poly game.
The process for collecting treasure is unintuitive, and the game feels like it expects you to know what to do even though you have little to know knowledge whatsoever. And on to the fact that you need to do absolutely nothing in order for stamina to recover, and the questionable control scheme for everything, it's a constant struggle just to walk around.
There's also a certain level of uncanniness to the voices and style that I feel like was half-baked almost as if whatever was used, wasn't human.
Overall, it's like a tasty-looking meal that feels undercooked. I feel like the game could work but it requires some severe overhauls
Thanks, you are right, I need to cook it little longer. About stamina I need to make mechanic more clear because there are things you can do about it: 1. stay in shadow, 2. drink water, 3. eat. But definitely needs changes to balance the consumption.
Hi I played your game on stream and I have some comments.
I would like to first start by saying, please do not take it personally on what I say on stream and my critiques. You've made a solid game and I feel like you should continue to refine it more. THAT being said, better controls, more intuitive gameplay, making it more user friendly. These aspects will make your game go a long way. I REALLY wanted to love it as I like these types of games but the problems I encountered, the frustration from it, made it hard for me to like it.
That being said, there's potential here. Please I hope you make it shine.
PS: I noticed Lady Dimitrescu. Nice. Bonus points~

Thank you. Taking notes: better controls, tutorial.
Hello! Welcome to Feedback Quest 8! My name's Hythrain, a co-host and one of the streamers for this event! This feedback is being written live as I stream your game! If you're interested in seeing my live reaction, let me know and I can send you a link to the VOD once it's posted to YouTube!
So my normal approach for any game in these events is simple: I get the game, make sure it's not a virus, then play it with as little information on how to play as possible. This way, I can judge how intuitively someone can figure out the game. Only if it's obvious that I need to read more will I do so. I note this so you can get a sense where some of these feedback comes from. In addition, I want to note that feedback and rating are different; don't use this feedback to gauge what I'll rate, nor should you view my rating as entirely indicative of my feedback.
When I started this game up, I was honestly excited for what I was about to play. However, it quickly became apparent to me that there's a lot that needs to be done with this game. I want to go over the things I encountered that made this very difficult to navigate.First, the tank controls. While I know there was a point and click option, I had a preference for making use of the keyboard instead. This meant using the tank controls. Mind you, this was before I found out that you could rotate the camera so it felt a little limiting for me. Once I learned about camera rotation it felt a bit better.
Second, stamina usage. Stamina burns VERY quickly in comparison to how fast it recovers. I spent well over half my time waiting for stamina to recover. I was in shock from how slow the stamina recover was. It also gets WAY worse when you pick up an artifact, as you barely move a few steps before you're completely empty. Perhaps there are ways to improve it, but if so then I never figured them out as once I got to a certain point I got really frustrated.
I also noticed that if you dig too much in one spot, you can get yourself trapped. However, visually it doesn't look like you should be. While more digging does get you out, if your shovel happens to break while you're trapped then you might be screwed.
However, what was the most frustrating part was when I had found an artifact and had shown it to the professor. I went to take a picture... only to never figure out HOW to take a picture. I held the artifact to the camera and pressed buttons, I held the camera to the artifact and pressed buttons, I even put them both down on the ground and tried pressing buttons around the camera and nothing happened. I spent several minutes trying to figure this out, even looking for any additional information outside of the game, before I gave up and started writing this feedback.
I feel like this game would strongly benefit from a tutorial where the player has a set first dig site with a set first artifact, where it walks through every step of the process (including saying how to do certain things) as I didn't feel like a lot of things were obvious (such as picking up the artifact. The controls for picking up are a tiny thing in the bottom left corner, where I'm not looking and where my stream couldn't see due to my avatar in the way).
Thank you. Taking notes: better controls, stamina, tutorial.
