Description
The Regal City would be a narrative-driven adventure game, inspired by titles like The Wolf Among Us and Heavy Rain. It would be structured into three episodes, with a storyline influenced by the works of Edgar Allan Poe and Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer. Its visual aesthetic would draw from Tim Burton’s films, as well as artistic movements such as the Cuzco School and the Limeño Baroque.
One of the most important elements of the game is its setting: the city of Lima, Peru, in the year 1909.
At that time, Lima was known as The City of Kings, serving as the most important cultural and economic hub in South America.
However, this wealth and cultural prestige had two faces. Spaces of power were dominated by a Creole elite descended from Europeans and Spaniards, while Indigenous Peruvians were pushed to the margins of society.
The plot begins during the festive season, when a series of mysterious murders start to unfold. This is where the story of Amadeo and Umberto begins:
Amadeo, a young Creole from Lima’s aristocracy, and Umberto, a doctor with a questionable reputation.
The Regal City / La ciudad de los Reyes: Main Theme (2:55 min)
Genre: Orchestral
A reimagining of the classic Limeñan piece La Concheperla, traditionally danced as La Marinera — a coastal dance that balances strength with grace, often performed as a ritual of courtship and elegance.
In the Lima of yesteryear, summer meant music, open-air soirées, and refined gatherings. La Concheperla became a staple of these festive days.
The Regal City draws from this tradition, not as a direct homage, but as a musical journey through the many faces of Lima — solemn, proud, and ever-evolving.
The piece opens with Amadeo at the piano, evoking the refinement of Lima’s old aristocracy — a delicate waltz through crystal-lit salons and whispered conversations.
Enter Umberto’s bandoneon: earthy, raw, and deeply human. He takes us below the surface — into the working-class quarters and rural outskirts, where his character moves as a doctor, healer, and passionate soul.
A cello solo emerges, painting the pulse of daily city life: the crowded plazas, the rustle of newspapers, the clamor of street vendors — a Lima always in motion.
Then the oboe appears — refined and restrained — offering a glimpse into Lima’s elite. A city of rituals and hierarchy, steeped in Catholic tradition and class consciousness.
At last, the strings rise and give way to the brass — the city erupts. A dramatic crescendo reveals the collision of all these worlds, each revealing its true essence in a moment of shared reckoning.
A Single Step / Un paso (02:20 min)
Genre: Peruvian Creole Waltz and Tango fusion
A Single Step is designed as diegetic music within the game and captures an intimate moment in Amadeo’s story. The title, translated into Spanish as Un paso, alludes to the saying, “del amor al odio hay solo un paso.” (“there’s only a single step between love and hate.”)
Despite his conflicted relationship with Umberto, Amadeo begins to realize that he is falling in love with him. Their affair is a beautiful, passionate, and provocative flirtation — yet also deeply melancholic, as Amadeo knows, deep down, that it cannot be. Not for him — not with an arranged marriage looming, and not within the highly Catholic and conservative society in which he lives.
The song is a fusion of Vals Criollo and Tango — Amadeo is represented by the piano and the vals, while Umberto is embodied through the bandoneon and the tango. The shifts in rhythm, along with the playful entrances and exits of the instruments, evoke a continuous and flirtatious dance between the two.
Message from the artist
I feel that thanks to this jam, I was able to explore a lot of my own culture and dive into new musical genres to compose and tell stories. It’s truly been a challenge, and I’m very grateful to all of you. :3

Loved the little waltz nature of the first track. It was composed well and the build up really felt natural and earned! The piano in the 2nd track started ramping up in complexity and it felt fun but suspenseful. I agree with some previous comments about the dynamics/volume of the instruments. It would add a lot to just make sure instruments swell and fall in volume during important parts.
Great work! This is going to sound amazing as you continue your work!
Compositionally this is a 10/10, absolutely wonderful. Just a bit of dynamic in the keyboard especially would make this an even more extremely strong soundtrack. Well done!
Like some others have already mentioned, some more dynamics and expression in the midi would make this even better than it already is.
Loved the whole feel and vibe of both, really good stuff!
Definitely a unique OST. I really enjoyed the Spanish flair of the first track and the more melancholy mood of the second track. Amazing job!
Yo Rizzi, these were so great to listen to! I love the riviera style you've gone for and you've nailed it. It's great to explore your culture through your music too, it's cool to see that come through in your music. Really well done!
I love the intricate descriptions for each instrument and their purpose. Everything is so vivid and colorful, carefully and intentionally brought to life with your music. For only having two tracks, you've expertly crafted a world that dances around the outskirts of the imagination. The instrumentation, especially in "Le Cuidad de los Reyes" is so varied and expressive, without ever feeling cramped or busy. My only critique is the piano in "Un paso" is a touch punchy on some of the high-velocity notes. That said, still a beautiful and well-composed couple of tracks. Great work!
Oh I know I'll be coming back to this soundtrack. Those two songs really are their own little unique world. Un paso *slaps* (the little accented bass notes are mwah, chef's kiss), and I really love how big and expansive the main theme sounds (one again killing it with the strings). Thanks for sharing your music with us mere mortals ^^
I loved the composing so much! Exellent work mann. Ficou daora demais veii!!!
Wow, this is excellent! Really moving music here. Both songs have a great touch and sense of depth. I can really feel the emotion and liveliness. Great work!
Excellent work, sublime and cool composition.
Aguante el tango
jaisjdia aguanteee!!
Wow, these songs are very strong!! I love the force you were able to put behind them; it really helped to make them feel alive! The only issue I noticed is that it seemed like the piano was always being played at the same velocity, which made it feel a little stale and cold since there wasn't much variety in how the notes were being played. Luckily, your songs were very strong so it did suit them well! But a little variety in power would be nice. Great job!!
Really solid compositions here, the melodies are catchy and chord movements give the exact kind of wine-drinking, two-faced, regal waltz in a murder mystery vibe that the story seems to be going for. I like how natural the playing feels, both songs flow so smoothly. Some instruments like the piano could use just a bit more dynamics in the velocity as it felt like it was playing really hard, but that's a pretty minor detail. Great work!
I loved the music and the write up! The melodies were catchy and your storytelling through the music was fantastic.
One thing I’d consider is more humanization of the instruments, like some velocity changes on the piano. It would make the tracks feel more alive.
Great job!
Now this is some insanely good storytelling that ties into the themes. Having cultural significance to summer whilst exploring a culture in music is a really excellent framing for the music to shine!
I also like that I feel I learned more about Peruvian culture through this
Thank you, this comment is really flattering, it means a lot to me. ✨🥹💖
mmmmmm Un Paso is so gooodddd!
La Ciudad de los reyes - very dance macabre, great composing!
Un paso - great dialogue between the piano and viola ( I assume?) I think if you used a piano vst with less attack on the notes and more low end coming through it would be perfect!
Thank you for the tip! 💖💖
I like the composition a lot, lots of really cool ideas and nice melodies. The choice of instruments really helps sell the setting and the characters, and the stylistic roots distinguish it from a lot of game OSTs. Love the time changes in Un Paso and the story they tell.
One thing that I think would make these pieces stronger is more dynamic range, within each part as well as the overall mix. Your orchestration lends itself to dynamic playing that could really enhance your compositions. For instance, when the bandoneon comes in in the main theme, it stays at a pretty consistent volume, and seems to fill as much space as the entire string section, almost like someone's playing the higher stops on a pipe organ. Having it come in quieter with the strings coming down to meet it, giving it room to swell and fade, could highlight its distinctive voice and make the piece feel more like a live performance.
I agree with previous comments that the piano sticks out a little, especially on Un Paso, but I'd say more dynamic movement in the line would probably go further than a different sample set. More contrast between the grander and more intimate moments would also make the storytelling even stronger in both pieces.
Criticism is easier to elaborate on than praise, but I think there's more to praise than to criticize. Awesome work!
Than thank a lot a really appreciate the feedback. And that's true the mixing part was a challenge for me. That's something I need to practice more. 🥹✨
Love how the Main theme has a deceptive beauty to it, which goes perfectly with the city you created in the description!
"Single Step" is very elegant and the tango elements also fit the relationship between the characters very well!
Great job!
