Description
As you wash up onto shore, you notice a mysterious town in front of you. Lights are glowing throughout, but no one seems to live there. As you delve into the history of the settlement, you realize that not everything is as it seems. Where did everybody go? Why?

Tracks 1, 2, & 3 - Dusk, The Forest, & Stargazing

Ideas:

These tracks were designed to represent different areas/mechanics that Ashore has to offer. "Dusk" is intended to play during the opening of the game as night is falling. "The Forest" takes place in a small grove of trees near the town. "Stargazing" plays later in the game once you discover a hidden telescope. Patterns in the sky help you solve some puzzles.

Notes:

The orchestration of these pieces was specifically chosen to provide a feeling of loneliness, mystery, and ultimately peace. Piano was used for more intimate moments and also to reinforce larger parts. The strings were added to provide harmonic texture to some of the melodies. Clarinet and vibraphone were the two lead instruments, with leitmotifs that reference other tracks.

Track 4 - The Dock (Credits)

Idea:

This song is about the main character, and how it seems like their whole life revolves around the dock (from the picture theme) at times. They go out and explore most days, but always end up back at the dock at night. What is it that makes this dock so fascinating? What can be seen and felt from this dock? How could they be so content to stay here? What have they found?

Notes:

This song is meant to be a bit of a different style from all the others. There is a large contrast between the atmosphere of the actual game and the character's own thoughts and feelings. While the other songs are very orchestral and ambient, this one has more pop and a little bit of jazz influence.

Dusk - 2:04 runtime, made in Studio One
The Forest- 1:42 runtime, made in Studio One
Stargazing - 1:59 runtime, made in Studio One
The Dock - 1:46 runtime, made in Ableton Live

Theme

One Summer Night

How does it fit the theme?
The game takes place during a summer's night, and the dock in the picture theme even has its own song!

The Dock is an easy favorite for me. Higher energy stuff is always my preference. And then the vocals kicked in it was crazy I wasn't expecting it!

The vocals themselves were also mixed quite well IMO since I have no idea how to mix vocals at all I'm too scared.

Thanks a lot!! I'm so happy with how my vocals came out, and I'm glad you thought their mixing worked out!!! :)

"Dusk", "The Forest" and "Stargazing" have some really great textures, and I think they all fit perfectly in the game you had in mind in the description! "Dusk" was probably my favorite of the three, there were some elements there that reminded me a bit of dragon quest, like the melody and chord progression!

But my favorite of all the OST is "The Dock"! The vocals were incredible and the track as a whole was very groovy! And although it feels a bit too different from the other tracks I think as a credit track it fits nicely!

Great Job!

Thanks for the kind words! I'm really glad you liked the vocals! I'm glad the contrast between the game and the credits came through! I can see how the style change could be a bit jarring if it weren't a credits song!! :)

so your voice is so beautiful. the packed instrumentals are being molded into smooth pieces by the voice. so cool. i also like the chord progressions. those are one of my favorites.

Developer

Thank you very much!! I'm really glad you liked the vocals! I haven't done vocals for a jam before so I wasn't completely sure how it'd go but I'm happy with how it turned out!

I had a really good time listening to your whole soundtrack, it feels like it could be the whole soundtrack of an indie 10/15 min game and i love that !

Your  use of the orchestra reminds me the hollow knight's soundtrack ( on of my favourites ) so ye, that is such an amazing work good job !!

Yeah, I've been playing Hollow Knight a lot recently, so that's influenced these songs.
