Description
Cover art and concept art by NekdoNahodny

Tracks composed in Logic Pro. I heavily featured sample libraries by Cinematic Studio, Cinesamples, and Strezov Sampling. I made synths using Vital and Phase Plant. I also recorded some bass for this submission. There are only two tracks in this submission, both are boss themes.

The gods are powerless to the human realm. Their strength extends that which is possible in physical reality. In order to have influence in the world Vessels are chosen, human mortals granted otherworldly powers through acting as a catalyst for the god who chose them. The Vessels are often unknown, serving as anonymous saints, serving the world as cosmically powerful vigilantes, keepers of peace and balance. But unfortunately the gods have a greater plan, bored with reality and limited personal power they have a plan in motion to reset the world at the fall equinox. The only thing that can stop it is a summer night that never ends. The god of Night still has love for humanity and chooses you to put a stop to this, but it won't be an easy path.

"Vessel of the Never-Ending Night" is a boss rush 2D side scroller where you play as the Vessel of the god of Night on a mission to persuade the other Vessels to turn against their gods that plan destruction, but each persuasion ends in death, yours or theirs. The other Vessels are too blind to see any act of the gods as anything but the greater good.

Track 1 - Vessel of Blood: Your first confrontation is the god of Blood's Vessel. She represents balance, morality, life, and what makes us human. You thought she would understand but her balance is offset and strained. Her humanity hungers for an unnatural thirst, your fight together only wears down what good she has left. This is a Vessel of Chaos. Its god abandoned its purpose. It failed her.

Track 2 - Vessel of the Stars: At the end of your hunt is the Vessel of the god of the Stars. You used to work alongside each other. Pulling each morning across the night sky to a new fresh start. You stand before them now to end the cycle. The god's plan is in motion, at the end of the night on the Fall Equinox reality will end. You're no longer here to see a friend but to kill the one whose thin strings tug the stars across the night sky starting a new day. The stars will never move again, you will make sure of it. You will become the Vessel of the Never-Ending Night.

How does it fit the theme?
The game takes place on the last night of summer in a modern realistic fiction setting. The player character is the personification of the god of night and their goal is to create an infinite summer night.

Amazing work that would fit the game perfectly. Both tracks are equally beautiful, dynamic, well-composed, and overall very polished. The bass guitar in track 1 feels just a bit too narrow, especially when juxtaposed with the rest of the instruments. That said, this is really just nitpicking—on its own, the sound is extremely interesting and powerful, but it sits slightly “outside” the sonic space where everything else resides and even this is only true (in my opinion obviously) in the final section of the song. Still, both songs are equally my favorite.

Overall, this is a fantastic work for an extremely powerful, nihilistic, and morally ambiguous story. Easily one of the best entries in this jam.

your work is always pretty astonishing, amazing stuff as always. the orchestral textures are really top notch, and i love that you mixed some synth-y stuff in as well, especially in the first track. it's so cinematic, fire stuff!

this the second time I'm listening -- was too flabbergasted the first time to write down a comment so i'm doing it now.

what the hell mang, this is really good. Your story is short, simple, and incredibly powerful, and your music follows suit. 10/10, no notes.

My mouth just KEPT. DROPPING.

Wow your soundtrack is epic! Awesome work :)

I liked the detuned instruments used in both tracks, it gives them an added layer of etherealness to them. I feel that your writing stands out to me because it keeps growing and getting deeper as more layers overlap and interact with each other, rather than a single idea leading the direction of the music... I'm not sure if I'm making too much sense, but point is I loved it!!

Awesome OST, this has so much power and atmosphere! The depth and variety in the percussion and rhythms sets such a good pulse and momentum, and the choir and strings do a great job of adding the gravitas expected from a soundtrack about gods and their followers. The bass is just amazing too. The bells are a great touch for the second track where the player faces a star based enemy! Fantastic job and thanks so much for sharing!

both the music and art just straight up gave me chills dude HOWWW THIS IS SO GOOD ??!#?!?@#? GOD the combination of the dirty bass and the haunting choir are just so ARGHRGHRHGHH GORGEOUSSSSSS

out of curiosity what did u use for the choir?? they sound SO GOODDD!!!! what an absolutely insane ost

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much I’m glad you liked it!

I used a combo of a bunch of different choirs layered together, the choir in Albion Solstice by spitfire audio, the quartet in Balkan Ethnic Orchestra by strezov sampling, requiem pro by 8dio, and The Spellsinger by Hunter Rogerson on Pianobook. The Spellsinger is super unique and kind of hard to tame cause of the way it’s sampled but I love how it sounds

Vessel of Blood: Oh wow the chords, the choir. And then the percussion and the analog style bass! Bruh I was NOT expecting that bass tone goddamn. This is lit. This is really Doom-like. The rest at 2:14 was amazing.

Vessel of the Stars: Ooh this softness is a nice contrast, nvm I heard that big boomy perc so now I'm scared. Love this rhythm. Never heard glockenspiel sound so tough before. Love that metallic perc. Love how we're back to the calm feel.

Phenomenal work as always!

This is some epic stuff. Both tracks felt intense, and I love the strings especially. Your concept is creative as well.

the cover art is gorgeous omg??

loving the choir in the introduction of your first track - very surreal and introduces the end-of-times feel quite effectively. this, in conjunction with the intense synths and kicks that follow overtop groaning orchestral chords develops this quite well. WOAHHH the bass?!>!??! WOAHH im obsessed with that bass guitar line the composition is literally incredible. oh my god this is wonderfully tension-filled, you orchestrated this quite well - i can't believe this only took you a week!

the use of bells and strings in your introduction to this second track have a similar effect to the choir in your first - it builds suspense into the boss theme, this time more representative to the stars than of blood. the use of percussion, the choir, synths, and polyrhythms really builds a cosmic vibe befitting of a boss battle theme. the groaning melodies fit this as well. again, the percussion is VERY nice - with the clanging instrument, despite being a minor addition, adding so much depth. the outro to this track with the strings really help bring your OST to a proper conclusion.

your submissions never fail to impress! VERY well executed and this was one of the best submissions i've heard thus far. wonderful work - i can't wait to hear more from you!!! :DDDD

thank you this means a lot!!

Wowowowow this reminds of Doom but I like this ost a lot more :D The things you do with the rhythm section (especially the bass lines) are so tasty, and the way you incorporated those wailing choirs into the first track sounds soo nice. Great submission!

The cover art was really working for me. It kind of reminds me of like Aztec or antient Greek imagery which was a great vibe to fit with both the music and the story.

Specifically it reminded me of the Mask Of Eternity which is considered the worst King's Quest game but it is also really funny.

The music is very high quality as I expected from you.

Amazing!! From the concept to execution, wow. The writing and details throughout, everything gets blended so seamlessly. Really cinematic use of harmony, especially some of the quartal elements at the beginning of Vessel of the Stars. Crazy job!

Vessel of Blood: The start with the ethnic wailing voices sets the tone for your story of primitive divinity. Wow your bass recording with electronic glitchy counterparts is really impressive and serves the boss fight feel very well! You merge orchestral strings with pads in such a unique way that it seems like only you can. The combination of all of the above at the end brings this track to a really satisfying climax.

Vessel of the Stars: The theme idea of having a battle between night and stars is first of all, an extremely cool idea. Secondly, you managed to make this sound like that is exactly what is going on! From the twinkling of the stars clashing with the deep reverberating darkness to the clanking metal in the warpy void sounds, you painted a picture with your music that is creative, detailed, and fits the theme very well. The orchestral portion works really well as a battle resolution phase - the sorrow weeps from that cello! I always really enjoy hearing the creativity that you are able to come up with in these jams, both in your music and the stories that you create. Great work once again and thank you for sharing!

Thank you for listening! I almost didn't end up submitting anything (had a really intense writers block and a lot going on this past week) so reading this means a lot! I wanted to mess around more with getting more creative with my blending of orchestral and other elements, I'm glad you liked it!

This was the first thing I rated but I wanted to come back and comment because DAMN! that bass has me in a chokehold lmao. love your style man, this is incredible

Submitted(+1)

These are such nice tracks, everything feels in place and has its role in the music. I especially like the glockenspiel, how its almost desynced and feels pretty wide. I wish you get high placement in this contest because you will have deserved it.

Submitted(+1)

Heh. My story is also this sort of "magic piercing the ordinary realm."

As always, your music kicks ass. It's always a treat to listen to.

Your music also definitely has its own unique vibe too, and it's a really powerful, cinematic vibe that would work with a lot of AAA stuff.

Keep kicking ass, Twitchy! :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Will definitely check yours out as soon as i get through my queue! Been so busy this week hard to sit down and get it done.

Both of these are peak. Some highlights for me include:

  • Shloop choir
  • Bloop choir
  • Schlopp choir
  • PERCUSSION YUH
  • BASS HIT YUH
  • BLAG

It brings me great sadness to see that the Laundry! was left out of the composition, though I assume it just wasn't ready and needed some more time to be washed.

Developer(+1)

Thank you!

its for the best, it costs 4 dollars to use both the washing machine and the dryer
