Description
Game synopsis:
In Elsie and the Lighthouse, you play as Elsie, a a ten year old kid, with opalescent white hair. She wakes up one late night to find herself stuffed aboard a container ship that has just crashed into an island. She meets Captain Xavier, a self proclaimed pirate, who takes Elsie in, trying his best to be a guardian for this weird kid that washed up on the shore, almost quite literally. Elsie finds out that Xavier poured his life into running Xavier’s Extravaganza, his not-so genuine pirate memorabilia and trinket shop. Unfortunately, things haven’t been looking good for the shop, and it’s scheduled to officially close down tomorrow morning. But Elsie convinces Xavier that there’s still time before the sun rises, and together they have one summer night to save the shop, and find out who put Elsie on that container ship.

I'm imagining this as a RPG/Visual novel, focusing on telling a story more than super in depth mechanics. The scope I had in mind for this game is way too big to compose for in ten days so I settled for making the first “act” so to say. Some tracks repeat and then fade out to demonstrate it looping.


Darkness

Elsie wakes up in an almost completely black box. Just the slight edges of objects are visible from what seems like daylight coming from far away. Elsie claws her way through the darkness until a beeping noise. There’s no-where else to go, and maybe the beeping will reveal some answers. She makes her way, eventually finding a blinking red dot in the dark, blinking in sync with the beep. She creeps closer, until…
“Arrr!!” Comes a scream from the man holding the beeping device, who points a flashlight at Elsie. He asks what in the seven seas she's doing in here and guides her outside.


Captain Xavier

The man introduces himself as Captain Xavier. He is a jovial man with an eyepatch and a scraggly grey beard. Elsie asks if he’s a pirate, to which he responds, “Of course lassie! Did the eyepatch and the accent not give it away?” They continue talking, and Xavier says he basically owns the lighthouse and tells tales of his incredible shop, Xavier’s Extravaganza, to which Elsie asks if she can see. Who wouldn’t want to see the incredible shop of a real, actual pirate?


Xavier’s Extravaganza

An aerial shot pans down the lighthouse leading up to reveal…! Xavier’s Extravaganza… Is that really it? A rickety old wooden shack that would barely pass a health inspection? Turns out yes. Xavier proudly leads her through the genuine pirate memorabilia and trinkets. Elsie learns that he poured his entire life into this shop, running it as a one man show. It’s Xavier’s pride and joy, which makes him get teary-eyed to say to Elsie that it’s closing tomorrow morning. Elsie doesn’t particularly care for the shop’s fate, but she won’t stand for Xavier giving up on his dream. Elsie convinces him that there’s still time before the sun comes up, and so they have one summer night to save the Extravaganza. Xavier does know one person that could help, but probably not. But Elsie says that if a miracle is going to happen, it’s going to happen now. So off they go to…


The Sherman Cafe

The Sherman Cafe is an absolute sleazebag of a place, but with a classy facade, which includes constant live jazz. Xavier knows it’s sleazy owner, and is ready to beg on his knees for some cash to keep the shop running. he goes off to find the owner, which leaves Elsie to explore. The sleazy bar/cafe. Alone. On second thought Xavier should have left her outside, but he’s new at this parent thing, and he’s doing his best!!! Elsie looks around, talking to cafe goers, and seeing if she can find the owner first. Looking in a cupboard for something, she feels a weird chill on her spine. The room goes dark as a window shines opalescent white, pulling Elsie towards it. She looks through…

Red and Black

…just in time to dodge the truck that crashes into the cafe. It looks futuristic, with black and red panels, and it looks ready for war. Out come storming multiple people in similarly futuristic black and red gear, waving their rifles around. They don’t look like they’re here to take prisoners. They look around… until they spot Elsie

“There she is!”

And before she knows it, Elsie is running for her life.

Message from the artist
This was my first time doing a music jam and it was really fun!! Stressful, but fun. I think I could've added more to "Darkness" like the sounds of Xavier humming or him rustling through junk. I love how "Captain Xavier" and "Red and Black" came out, though. I ultimately like what I made as a whole, and I definitely grew as a composer through it. Thanks for listening! :)

Also, feel free to leave some constructive criticism! I want to become a better composer and see what people with different ears like and what they think I could do better.
