How does the game fit the theme?
In the game you risk everything against 3 other bot players to hopefully win a biscuit at the end

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
The only things I didn't make were the wood table texture and the ps1 style shader

How many people worked on the game?

I enjoyed it! First round I lost, second time I got the biscuits - I liked the win screen how it just gave me the cookies and that was it... what good are all the cookies with everyone else at the table gone.  Very deep game.

Haha love the interpretation, thanks for trying it out!

Interesting idea. Would be a lot more clear if I could see the lives and cards of the other players. Seeing my own lives would be helpful as well. Liked the theming a lot, cards so sharp that it shatters you into a bajillion pieces.

Developer

Thanks for playing! yeah the whole thing stemmed from that initial idea of ok sharp cards would be pretty risky haha.

Would be really great to have some kind of feedback on how many lives I have left, and maybe a number above the opponents' heads to see what their hand adds up to! I also found the noise of cards being dealt carried on even after players had perished! So 4 hands were dealt to 2 players.

Otherwise, a great game that I would happily play for longer! Clean animations, good sound design <3

Developer

Thank you for playing and pointing out where it could be improved I appreciate it. Honestly I just make the ai invisible if it loses all 3 of its lives haha I didn't stop any of the dealing logic etc as I kind of just focused on having a playable game but yeah if I decide to go back and improve on the game I'll definitely be taking the advice on board.

I like the aesthetic here! I liked the snappy feel of the cards and how they stick into the table.

Developer

Thanks for playing the game I appreciate it. I really enjoyed making those aspects haha.

That 3D perspective for blackjack is a really cool innovation. It adds a huge amount of immersion, actually feels like I’m sitting at a real poker table, anxiously waiting for my opponent’s hand. However, the text on the cards is pretty small, and it’s not always clear if you’ve won, so maybe adding some visual or audio cues to indicate the results would be better.

Developer

Thanks for playing the game and for the constructive feedback I appreciate it. I wouldn't be able to make some changes to the game anymore would I?

Submitted(+1)

Yeah you can’t change the game until the voting is over. If you want to keep working on it, you can update it after the voting ends.

Developer

Ah ok that makes sense

Took a few tries but I finally got biscuits :D

Fun take on Blackjack. I liked the horror themeing and the sound of the cards hitting the table was on point!

Developer

Haha glad you got the biscuits, thanks for checking it out!

Nice simple and fun game, I really liked that the sounds kind of matched the visual style!

Developer(+1)

Thanks haha sound design was one of the parts that felt the most rewarding.

I liked how snappy the game feels, such as when cards are dealt. The UI could use some work, though. It's quite hard to tell how much health the player/npcs have and who wins each round, which are both very important to the enjoyment of this game I think.

Here's a vod of me playing your game. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for trying it out on stream I appreciate it! yes definitely I will have to improve on that in an update maybe thanks for the feedback.

Nice seeing another BlackJack around! The concept is very good and the cards really appear shard! Had to laugh when the enemies were hit and the sound played lol!

Quick suggestions:

  • Have a total number over the enemies hand as well.
  • After the round ends destroy the enemies cards too

Overall a great idea! Keep it up!

Developer(+1)

thanks for the feedback! yeah I had a lot of fun making the sound effects haha. The enemies cards just kind of get dealt over the old ones yeah lol that definitely needs fixed.

Submitted(+1)

Simple and suprisingly fun for what it is. i'd recommend adding a health indicator or feedback when you get hit

Developer

I appreciate the feedback! Yes I myself sometimes get confused play testing it haha, I definitely agree that more indication would help.

Nice game! It's simple but it does its job. Good work!

Developer

Thanks for checking it out!

I really like blackjack so i liked this one. My only problem is with the feedback from the other players, would love to know what is happening with their scores and decisions. Besides that this is a good blackjack game.

Developer(+1)

I appreciate the constructive feedback. Yeah I was debating adding their scores but wasn't sure about it since you only see other players hands at the end I. Blackjack as far as I'm aware.

Great job on the animations and the bots. I also really like the idea of the razor sharp cards cutting into the wood table.

Developer(+1)

Thanks a bunch that's kind of how the Idea originated for me, razor sharp cards that somehow damage the player.

Really interesting take I can see you had fun with this one. The atmosphere/mechanics give it a unique feel, and I like how you pulled it together within the jam constraints. Feels like you learned a lot building it. What part of the process did you enjoy the most, and what would you want to expand if you kept working on it

Developer

I probably enjoyed learning how to make animations and the sound design the most in this one, if I were to expand the project I would probably add power cards and things to spice up the gameplay.

Submitted(+1)

I really liked this card drawing game! Dark atmosphere fits game so much. Also I liked how your bots are working by making decisions. Very fun game overall!

Developer

Thanks I appreciate it!

Submitted(+1)

Simple but enjoyable. You managed to add bots with some degree of decision-making within one week by yourself, great work!

Developer

Thanks I appreciate it!

I like the inscription style to it. The animation at the beginning where you walk up to the table set a great job of setting the tone. I think making the game feel juicier would help a lot with the feel of it. There wasn't very much impact when you won or lost. This could be with sound effects, camera shake, other vfx or something. Maybe even pausing a little longer on the loss screen or waiting for user input to go past it. Other than that it is a solid implementation of blackjack. Great job!

Developer

Thanks for playing, and thanks for the recommendations I definitely see what you mean with adding a screenshake or something I'll be sure to take the advice on board.

Nice and sharp :)

Thank you for playing!

The gameplay is really nice and simple. Loved it!!

Developer

Thanks for playing :)

I really like the game, main menu is so cool and sound effect for cards, and also animation fo them falling like that and also hitting player is so nice, just one problem i had is that everyone lost but i still heard them playing, and then it said at the end that i lost, so maybe I'm missing something? idk, but really nice game, everyithing fits together really good imo, and also walking to the table at the start is really nice. To me it really looks like you had fun making this with all those little things you added to make it more enjoyable, like exploding effect too.

Good luck in game jam, and good job, i really like the game

Developer(+2)

Thanks so much for the comment, yeah I think I know the bug you're talking about I had a few ideas on how to fix it but just ran out of time before I could fix some of the bugs. I really enjoyed making it though I learned a lot about animation and blender since it's my first 3d game.

Submitted(+1)

I think you are allowed to fix bugs in first 48 hours, tho you should check that out to be sure, and also if you have energy to do it

Also it was my first 3d published game also using blender haha

Developer(+1)

Oh really thanks for the heads up.

You are welcome :D
