Cute game! Even utilising AI it looks decent. All in all a nice sequel to the previous game😊

Thanks for your review and the video! Was really fun watching. I guess I have to state a few things more than once at the beginning to make sure that more casual readers get them, since this left you a few times in unnecessary confusion about the world building. :D I also need to make clear that the "recap" is a recap of the prequel game ("Sweet Science") which explains why it feel like a summary: it is a summary!
Firstly, the elephant in the room: Yes. This game utilizes AI in various facets of the game. It was to the point that I wasn't entirely sure if ANY part of the game was touched by the dev or if it was purely made from AI Engines, which is... troublesome, to say the least.
The art had NOTICEABLE AI elements to it. I feel like the writing tried to cover up some of the image mishaps with crazy excuses. For example: Windows being holograms to the outside. So, even if it was nighttime & there was daylight seeping through the windows ... It's ALL GOOD, because it's just a hologram! The dialogue was sometimes too wordy or over-explained things & the narrative itself felt extremely chaotic:
- Girls were introduced & then thrown away.
- No explanation for how long Protagonist was in 1992. Only that we ended up at a Science Camp & are now suddenly in a relationship with one of the girls.
- No explanation about the EOU. Just LOTS of exposition & then an "Initiation Video"
- Any human can become a Star Human?
- The family is Japanese but lives in Germany and also lives forever.
I have no problem with creators utilizing AI as a tool to workshop their ideas, but when it is pawned off as a full game or series - even free - it's not something I can support.
So, while I thought some ideas were cool...
- Like using various mediums to break up the typical visual novel aesthetic:
→ Pixel art for the City Fighter minigame
→ Old American horror film for the initiation video
And, even though I had a good laugh playing through this, the game was a huge turn-off for me. Even without a team or with English being your first language, I felt like a lot of the mistakes could be caught easily with a little QA. The Quantity felt like more of a priority here (MORE chapters, MORE routes, MORE everything) than the actual Quality of the game.
For my full initial reaction to the game, you can find my VOD here (timestamps available):
Thanks for your review!
Some important information that you might have overlooked: The game is a sequel to the visual novel "Sweet Science". Chapter 1 recaps the story so far, so it's naturally a bit *quick* if you haven't played "Sweet Science" before. Guess we need to make this clearer to avoid confusion. Also, the "throw-away characters" are from "Sweet Science" and will also play a major role later in the story of "KIETA MEMORY", so not they're far from "throw-away" (and I would never dare to throw away Sylvia, as that could be dangerous)...
I'm glad you liked the humor, even though you dislike AI. Regarding your question: If you knew how much some pics have been "touched", you'd be surprised... :D
P.S.: If you would like to share a list of the English errors you found with me, that would be great! Looks like you have a better eye for that than other test players.
Hello! Welcome to Feedback Quest 8! My name's Hythrain, a co-host and one of the streamers for this event! This feedback is being written live as I stream your game! If you're interested in seeing my live reaction, let me know and I can send you a link to the VOD once it's posted to YouTube!
So my normal approach for any game in these events is simple: I get the game, make sure it's not a virus, then play it with as little information on how to play as possible. This way, I can judge how intuitively someone can figure out the game. Only if it's obvious that I need to read more will I do so. I note this so you can get a sense where some of these feedback comes from. In addition, I want to note that feedback and rating are different; don't use this feedback to gauge what I'll rate, nor should you view my rating as entirely indicative of my feedback.
Okay, so fun fact: I normally don't remember the names of people who submit games to FQ events unless they actively engage with my streams or I regularly see them in the Indie Questing Discord. As such, when I first looked at the screenshots here and saw "pink haired girl in a Japanese uniform outfit with cat ears," I immediately knew it was familiar. Some investigating later, I realized you're the developer of Sweet Science and that this was a sequel to that game! That said, I have opinions about the fact that the canonical ending of Sweet Science is the protagonist dating Azuki but maybe this'll be corrected in the future with sequel games for every girl.
With that said, knowing you're the developer of Sweet Science also means I know how the artwork for this game is made, which immediately led to me noticing a lot of quirks in the artwork.
Now here's where I have to admit something: much like the times I played Sweet Science for these events, I wasn't really able to scratch the surface of what you have here. Even if it's just a demo, I can tell just by the file size that this game is long. Unfortunately, this creates a problem where I can't adequately give feedback on the main aspect of visual novels like this: the story itself. However, what I do know is that in the English translation there are numerous weird sentences and typos. I also know that your first language is German, so it makes sense that these errors exist. The big question I have, however, is if you have someone to help you with your English translation. I don't remember Sweet Science feeling so strange in its dialogue, thus the reason for my question.
I honestly can't give you a whole lot when it comes to feedback, not unless I can get a large amount of time to play it... and unfortunately, with 159 games in FQ8 and only a few weeks to get through them all, I simply don't have that time.
Thanks for your small feedback. I know how critical you are, so I'm happy you seemed to like it, even though long VNs are notoriously difficult for short streams, I know. :)
Just two comments:
- There's no canonical ending in "Sweet Science"! Just because this is a sequel of one of the endings, doesn't mean it's the ending (nor my personal favorite). However, Azuki is the favorite character of the players, by quite some margin.
- That there are more typos than in Sweet Science is probably simply due to the fact that the game is still far from finished. So sorry for that!
Would be great if you could send me a link to your video.
I think the opening cinematic looks really professional, and overall the tutorial is pretty solid, it gets the basics across clearly. The art direction also shines, especially with the blonde girl and the one with glasses, they look very polished.
That said, a few areas could use improvement. When it’s raining, I’d love to hear a rain loop to deepen immersion. Some sound effects feel missing, like clicks, or when characters start talking, which would add a lot of life. The music also feels a bit loud by default. For story setup, I personally would prefer either more mystery or a subtle explanation instead of the “corny” style of hand-waving time travel (“How? Why? Nobody knows”). On the art side, the redhead seems under-rendered compared to the others, and the AI use might raise questions with certain players (though I personally don’t mind). Lastly, in your first real decision (introducing yourself to her parents), the choice didn’t affect the dialogue, I think you’d make a stronger first impression by showing branching right away. Also, one line, “I thought we were going to have another trouble”, might read better as “another problem.”
That said, the game is entertaining, and you clearly have a lot of talent in presentation and style. I’m probably not the target demographic, but I can already see how this could really click with its intended audience.
Thanks for your feedback, I really appreciate it!
Patti will be re-rendered, that's on the to-do list, so you've spotted that well. Thanks for the reminder about sound effects. That somehow got a bit forgotten in the production, although we actually have the sound files ready, so we'll add that soon.
The time travel story is explained in detail in "Sweet Science", the previous game (in a different branch of that story which does not lead to the events in "Kieta Memory"), so instead of a lengthy explanation we cut it short in the intro. There will be more mystery about that later...
Regarding the first choice... Interesting point. We thought, on the other hand, the first choice should be an easy warm-up instead of something really decisive.
Absolutely gorgeous graphics design and sooo cute! Love the characters and their unique personalities and how sweet and just plain wholesome and loving Azuki's family is.
The second chapter did feel like it stretched on a bit long. There was a bit too much going back over the first game's plot when the first chapter did a good enough job of catching me up on what happened in it (though surprisingly not any explanation for why Azuki has cat ears). It also felt a little repetitive with the multiple game with Kiki, Daniel is reminded again how different Star Humans are, good laughs, Marvin snarks, and he goes to sleep wondering if he is good enough for Azuki.
I do see the point of establishing their relationship and how happy and great things are before it all goes wrong and the other girls presumably reappear. But could be tightened up a bit, and still have the same purpose. I loved the humor and OMG the narrator at the stop was a freaking hoot. I had a blast reading their lines.
All in all, it left me curious for where the story would go, and the foreshadowing about the backups and the defense ball made it clear Azuki is in danger. And even the weird alien food managed to look cute and weird and gorgeous at the same time!
Wow, thank you for your feedback (the bugs are fixed now) and in particular for the wonderful stream. I just started watching the recording and that was really fun. You're a born voice actress! :D
You have actually nearly finished Chapter 2. Chapter 3 is a lot shorter, so all in all you have played around 2/3 of the demo.
