Description
play as hanna, a teenager living in a crumbling dystopian metropolis, where gangs sent by a corrupt government are going door to door abducting citizens. one august evening they come to her neighbourhood, and as darkness falls she slips out onto her roof and begins her escape to a better life. find a passageway across rooftops under the starlight to escape the city before the sun comes up and you're spotted. and who knows? maybe you'll make some friends along the way ✨

an electronic/digital fusion soundtrack made in fl studio, total runtime 14:36, i'm imagining the game as a narrative-and-movement-driven 3d platformer of sorts

Great submission, I absolutely love "lana's place"!!! Nice work :)

that's a very good soundtrack that would fit for such a concept as a platformer. I also think it would fit for some puzzles (mb those could be included in the platformer you imagined, like some parts where you need to solve a puzzle to get somewhere, especially I have these vibes in lana's place, though I have a concern about high frequencies here being too sensible. Not really a terrible thing, I was doing the same mistake a lot a few months ago and I'm still doing it occasionally). My favorite would be either escape into the night or it doesn't end like this, it's just such an ear candy for me and I'm lowkey a sucker for breakcore. Overall definitely peak.

Really fun OST!!! I think the drums were great but maybe just a bit too quiet for the style. Not really the biggest deal in the world, especially since that can be very fatiguing quickly so honestly it might even be for the best. But maybe a better mix of somewhat louder drums and more drum breaks could fit a similar feel. I don't know, at this point I'm just theorizing lol but an OST that gets me to think about the music and composition like that is a huge positive in my eyes. Great job!!

the vibes are great in this OST! I loved how you were able to get the drive and groove of DnB / Breakcore drums without the oversaturation, it really helped emphasize the melodic nature of the OST. Great submission!

I love when a vibe gets going.  I'm going to say track 2 is my favorite.  Love the drum track and synth combo, which those little piano decorations, definitely a song you can play while working on something.  Dang, totally forgot about band camp, that definitely makes a soundtrack have more presentation in my opinion.  But yeah, a lot of neat instrument choices overall.  I can tell when someone had a good time making their tracks.  Again the piano and drum tracks are very solid.

Yo avoset, i think you've crafted a really cool set of tracks here and they definitely feel like you've cultivated a coherent world and tone of escaping the government. I especially like how the elements all feel in the production - everything is super clean.

I think for me the drums don't quite hit in the way I'd hope for them too though. Like in escape into the night felt like the groove wasn't quite there for me, maybe it was the drums and bass didn't quite feel connected in the way i hoped it would for that kind of dnb loop.

I'd generally agree with some others that maybe the tracks could do with shortening, the loops might be made even more impactful with less! Despite what I've said I still think you've put together an awesome few tracks in this OST, great stuff!

thank you, glad you enjoyed them! some thoughts-

 - i think i agree with you on the drums in escape into the night, to some extent. i wanted to keep them fairly light as i thought heavier drums would've made it less airy/atmospheric (which is something i was really aiming for),  but i found it a bit hard finding samples i thought fit the balance i was going for and probably could've gone a bit harder with the drums yea

- i'm a bit of an adaptive music/fmod nerd and i love when soundtracks slowly take you through the different states you might hear the music in (like the 'long hike' versions of the tunes on the a short hike ost if you're familiar), and i also just love slowly evolving electronic tunes generally, so that's where i'm coming from with that. that said, i could definitely see it getting repetitive, especially when you're just focusing on the music without the context of a game to go with it, and especially when people are trying to go through and rate lots of jam submissions haha. i'll definitely bear it in mind more in future pieces

Beautiful chord progressions and melodies, the piano really gives the whole thing an air of summery melancholy, but also some distinct hopefulness. Really impressive songwriting. "escape into the night" really has that driving, urgent feel needed for a good platforming level, while still feeling contemplative and hopeful.

The breakbeaty style of the drums on "it doesn't end like this" really take that one to a higher level as well, it gives it an aggressive confidence that goes really well with the growing optimism of the chords and melodies...like finding the drive to fight back.

It all ends on a nice poignant feeling note as well which brings it kinda full circle from the first track. Kinda feels like a sunrise right at the end too.

Only real criticism is that I didn't love all the sounds used for every track, particularly a couple on lana's place, but that's really just a personal preference thing. Thought it was all great. Very cohesive.

thank you! i love getting more detailed comments like this, glad i got the urgent-but-hopeful tone i was going for across

This was nice, it has kinda a soothing and hopeful vibe to it. I liked listening to "lana's place", sounds calm like you're in a safe zone like a checkpoint. The tracks being too long isn't a big deal for me, It leaves a bigger impact and I forget it less when it's repeated. I think my fav is "it doesn't end like this", Iove the keys at around the 3min mark.

hey thank you for checking it out! and yea that's exactly what i was going for with 'lana's place', i was imagining it as a kind of temporary safe place where you meet a friendly character in a similar position to you, glad it came across

Overall pretty solid, although it did feel like some of the tracks we're too long

I like the piano writing in as darkness falls, i see that you are trying to capture some form of a broad soundscape by utilizing plenty of open chord voicings instead of a closed one, thus giving the part a sense of ambiance. I also like how you utilize 9th chords here. truly gives it a kind of an open feel to it

I don't really have any notes on the music. I thought it was all pretty good. At most, I think some of the tracks might have been a little long.

I really like the atmospheric effect you went with, i can really see this being a soundtrack to a real open world game while being chased by the bad guys on the track Escape Into The Night.
