Description
Racing Game / Meta Narrative
Message from the artist
I wish we had more time to incorporate this narrative more into the music but I will explain the story as intended. The story follows a group of bored teenagers in 2000. Their favorite game that summer is Cherry Hill, a PS2 style retro drift racer. They often listen to the OST while racing or hanging around their favorite 'tracks' which are just backroads around their neighborhood. At the end of summer they lose one of their friends because they crash and wrap around a tree. The road is closed, and summer ends. I want this album to feel more like the emotions of experiencing your best summer ever through the lens of a favorite game and how one mistake can forever change your connection with old memories. Exploring ideas of melancholic nostalgia and how perception dictates our relationship with media.
Thank you,
GrossTech
Theme

How does it fit the theme?
When I heard the theme I immediately thought of all the summer nights of driving through backroads around my neighborhood. The picture theme from @xin_cere.art made me think of a specific location off of the real life Cherry Hill Road in Virginia. Some of the best hidden locations are found by turning your engine and driving.

Honestly this is amazing and would be the PERFECT for the racing game described. Each track feels really polished and engaging. The story is perfect and original but technically the music does not have any correlation with the world outside, even a small glimpse of something narrating the actual story would have made this an absolute masterpiece . Still a great entry and one of the best submissions of this jam imo!
Very fun soundtrack! I can see these tracks being used for an actual racing game.
Peak. I genuinely don't have anything else to add.
Y'all had me bopping from start to end; I'd be disappointed in the judges if this doesn't win!
Keep up with the sauce, dare I say go lose yourselves in it!
I haven't played a lot of racing games in my day but my goodness are the racing game vibes just oozing out of every part of this OST! Foreign language especially gave me the vibes of a racing game better than some racing games might.
The most video game OST submission I've heard all jam and I've gone through like 200 entries!
Woooow that's such high praise thank you so much
Fun soundtrack, the genre and mood is unlike anything else I've rated in this jam so far. Every track was good, but I liked Foreign Car Foreign Language and Radial Pistol Boogie the most! Great work :)
Thanks so much for checking it out! That was my hope, hit a genre that was both new to me and would feel unique to the jam. Can't wait to hear your submission!
Love this one, a racing OST fits so well with the theme! The production quality and mixing is perfect, it gives that intense feel that is expected for games like these! They are all super fun to listen to and they have that distinct ps2/dreamcast style to them!
Although they were all great, "On The Attack" and "Styling On 'Em" were my favorites, they were awesome!
Great job to both of you!
Thanks bro! Dude yeah, Scarly knocked it out of the park!
Oops! Repeated the same track, changed it now!
what an incredible mix this one has. i like all trakcs but radial piston boogie is crazy. its so rave coded. im bopping. id like to listen to this tracks in a club. also insane concept ! awesome submission.
Thanks! I'm happily surprised at how bouncy it turned out. I was listening to it back and like wtf I'm jumping around lol
Nailed the JSR + Racing game vibe, this is dope! the mix is impeccable as well, lots of ear candy, great use of the full stereo spectrum, grooves are great, overall awesome OST!
Thanks bro! So glad people are jivving with the mix cause I if I could go back I'd add some volume automation to my tracks to make it flow a bit better. But hey, that's a the jam. Can't wait to check out your submission!
Oh yeah, there’s nothing more summer night-like than disco/rave music.
Hell yeah ~( ˘▾˘~)
Nailed the racing game track vibe, really nostalgic for me !
Thanks for giving our project a listen!
I would have never taught of ps2 racing game music for this jam but after listening to your tracks I'm glad I didn't cause they would've never have been as good as this!
I got so excited when GrossTech told me that he wanted to make a PS2 racing game OST. Thanks so much for listening to our project!
yo this is sick!!!!
Love how the vocals are incorporated in On The Attack. This beat is so good it makes me want to merge without looking
The vocal chops on Radial Piston Boogie are great as well; they add a lot to the PS2-era vibes.
Gear Lash gives me some serious Jet Set Radio vibes. Especially love the use of samples here.
Same deal with Foreign Car Foreign Language. Do I hear some Hotline Miami influence?
Garage but House is an appropriate title. I GOT SOMETHING FOR YO MIND YO BODY AND YO SOUL 🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣
Styling On 'Em is my favorite track. It's like if Hideki Naganuma made phonk.
This whole project is super stylish and full of personality. The garage and house influences come through on every track, and the PS2 retro drift racer aesthetic is absolutely there.
Thank you so much for taking the time to listen to our project and write all of these kind words!!! We had a lot of fun making this and I'm happy that you enjoyed it!
