Description
Yurei Dream is a chill narrative game with supernatural undertones I envisioned specially for this jam and its theme. Set in a deserted city, the player awakens on a beach with two questions : who am I? and where am I? Their goal for most of the game is to find the answer to both these questions. Along the way they are helped by magical living toys and a stray cat that seems to know a lot about the city. The game ends with a touching reunion between the player and its past.
I idealized every track using a piano, then made a score for the orchestration using Sibelius and finalized them in Ableton. all the tracks represent either a moment or a character in the story.

Message from the artist
I hope you have as much fun while listening to the pieces as I had while making them.
P.S. The tracks should be listened to in the order they are set on the album :)
Theme

How does it fit the theme?
I envisioned the game as taking place during a summer night for the entirety of its story. I used the picture to figure out the vibe of the music and it gave me the initial spark for the story. I envisioned the game to be in an art style similar with the picture.

Very pretty soundtrack! It made use of its simplicity and minimalism very well to capture a somber but playful mood. It was short and sweet and never out stayed its welcome while still being interesting. Great job at capturing the feeling of reminiscing on childhood.
Excellent way of telling a story and conveying emotions, I could really picture the scenery with your music. Very moving too 🥹
I love the very definitely not Zelda vibes throughout
Funnily enough Zelda wasn't an inspiration for this. I was inspired by Undertale's soundtrack and the music of Erik Satie.
The chords were very pretty on the strings. They felt emotional and beautiful.
Thank you :) Are you reviewing every entry this year?
yes
Good luck !
Player’s Theme: I love a good relaxing and reverby piano theme! This is a well-written melody that is memorable and can be used in several different settings throughout your game idea, I imagine. Very beautiful!
Living Toys: Children’s percussion instruments have such a unique sound to them that just makes sense being associated with toys. I like the sparse orchestration of this, making the toys seem gentle, unassuming, and helpful.
Exploration: This is the epitome of a dreamscape and would be such a fun and relaxing backdrop for playing your game idea.
Neko The Cat: Bassoon and piano together creates a fun effect for me where I imagine its a character that is light-footed but maybe also somewhat clumsy. The sparseness in the mid-range section, similar to the living toys theme, also makes me feel like this cat doesn’t really have anything to hide and is here to be helpful.
Reunion: This guitar and piano version of the player’s theme gives a sense of finality and understanding that caps your OST very nicely. Oh, I also really love that oboe solo over the string swell. That moment when it first came in was probably my highlight of your entire OST!
Overall: This is a very lovely set of songs that use very intentional instrumentation selections and simple, yet extremely effective motifs to convey a simple, yet emotionally evocative story. Very nicely done! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you ! I love your breakdown of my songs. I like your interpretations :)
oh how i love the cozyness of this submission. living toys sounds so majestic
Thank You :)
I love these cozy little themes. I like how you tie the pieces together with those tranquil major seventh chords. Simple and effective.
Thanks! I tend to have more minimalist style so I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Chef's kiss! I love Living Toys and Neko The Cat, while Reunion is such a beautiful way to wrap it all up. Nice work!
Thank you :)
