Description
I used Logic Pro and tried to capture the vibe of the environment in my art. It resembles a struggle of discovery and a lot of chaos.

Message from the artist
One summer night, in the Stardust planet, the origin of a nebula named "Sonar", not knowing how or why the starling was made, he takes his journey to find out his purpose in the universe. Unbeknownst to him, unfathomable monsters yearn for his destruction, including the planet itself?! Will sonar be able to exceed his limits before he and or the planet succumbs to the darkness?

Overall, a nice OST here! The compositions are fun and creative, you have an interesting style. The blending of piano with synths and chiptunes gives it the whole OST a unique vibe.

Stage Select has an interesting sort of chaos to it, but I feel like the piano rhythm drags on a bit - it would benefit from dropping out completely in part of the track or at the very least some velocity changes. The same can be said of the whole soundtrack - vary your velocity, everything sounds so stiff! Just because it's MIDI doesn't mean it has to be grid-locked and robotic. Throw some of that human element in there! If you can't play any instruments (I sure as hell can't) then learn how to humanize by studying MIDI that came from an actual person playing. It's a good way to see how the velocity (especially of a piano) will ebb and flow over the course of a performance. For some instruments some randomization can go a long way, just be careful not to throw off your song's overall timing by doing it TOO much.

I am loving "BOSS (the SqUaNCher)" - that little vocal bit was a really nice touch.  Some songs feel a bit busy - "THE VOLCANO" is a guilty of this. You could maybe try dropping some of the drum notes to something simple for a couple bars around 0:36 and then bringing them back in later on to give this song a little room to breathe.

On track 8 - what the hell man, you didn't tell me you could play piano? I wrote all that stuff about velocity for nothing, and I'm not gonna go back and delete it either. You can't just throw this beautiful piano performance into the middle of a soundtrack like that without warning me. Sheesh. What are you even doing, this is like 5 minutes??? Chill out, bro. Show-off. (just kidding, nice work on this one)

Now you're throwing in some sort of funky guitar vibes in there with "THE CORE." I like it! I think this is one of the better executed themes on the soundtrack.

Anyway, pretty cool OST here. Nice work!

Thank you so much for listening!!!
I'm glad you liked my take on this type of theme. It was a ton of fun. I'm still learning a lot from using MIDI without an actual keyboard, so it was a ton of fun doing this again. I think I'm getting close to figuring out how to structure my songs in the right way, truly, and I sincerely thank you for your critique! "Memories" was a fully made (yes, entirely) improv. I was just bored and thought of what I felt in the moment.

this is cool! I was reminded a lot of 3DS era games, and the jazz harmony was really nice! Well done!

Thank you so much for listening! The 3DS games were a great inspiration for me. I'm glad you liked it

damn this is pretty good, i’m a sucker for jazz. my favorite has to go to stardust coast, it’s very groovy and i love the bossa nova style for it, awesome work!

Thanks for listening dude!

Def was not expecting to hear Bossa Nova style music in this jam lol, but all of these tracks have a super cool take on the theme that you were going with! It makes for a playful space adventure game. I do think that the songs were probably lacking in some mixing effects (except for "Memories" as this seemed to be approached differently in its production than the rest of your tracks). I don't have any specific advice on mixing but it could be something worth exploring for future tracks. Keep it up though, loved what I heard!

Thank you so much for listening, dude! Mixing is my enemy sometimes, but I appreciate the kind words. Memories were all improv, plus I also took the mixing a different way as well just gotta try and apply it everywhere else lmao.

What is the picture you have in the project page with the tall trees? Is it from a game or is it just original art? Either way it looks sick!

This OST was a blast to listen to. I don't really hear the connection the the theme but they were all pretty boppin!

There could be some improvements in the mix. Instruments that are too loud in some songs and it feeling crowded at times.

Thanks for listening! I took that photo out of bounds in a stage called Planet Wisp in the Sonic Generations version of the game. When I made the ost, I was tryna correlate to the environment part of the theme, but I get how it can kind of be a lil confusing lol. Mixing is my greatest enemy right now, but I appreciate the criticism!

Ok I thought it might be planet wisp from the little bit I thought I saw the alien guy but I couldn't tell

There are a lot of moments I love in this submission: the polyrhythms in main melody (I think a chord with a flat 6 in the bass would’ve gone crazy here), the chord changes in the ShoP, the synth on the back half of stardust coast. Also all of Memories. This was a great listen.

I would look into some more reverb for some of the instruments. A lot of them are fighting for the front, right in your face spot in the mix at the moment.

Awesome work!

Thank you for listening plus the critique!! I remember in my first ever jam I did so much of everything except for the mixing lmao, so I appreciate your suggestions for improvement! "The shop" and "memories" are my lowkey favs plus fun fact  "memories" was a  full improv one take of my feelings at that moment of recording that.

Yeahh this one's a banger. So many interesting and unique styles condensed into this OST. I especially liked the vibe and melody in Stardust Coast, and you made a nighttime variant of this track too! Awesome work with this one, it was a pleasure to listen to.

Oh dang, so many great tracks on here. I'm loving all the different chord progressions and rhythms, so much of this is super jazzy and uplifting and I love all of that. The use of all the different genres and styles is great too, eventually going from bossa nova in Stardust Coast to the sad piano in Memories felt like a real journey through everything. The only thing that I found a little confusing was the difference in palettes between some of the songs? Memories and The Shop both feel very warm and spacious, where songs like The Volcano sounded a bit colder/sharp/bitcrushed, sorta like DS games (which I mean in the absolute best possible way I love DS game OSTs). Also, speaking of The Shop, I need more of that. Please I'm begging you I need more that was such a good groove I need it please

Developer

Thanks for listening, bru! I wanted to convey certain environments (especially the volcano section), which, looking back at it. I could've done a better job organizing the  texture change within each world to mesh a lil better. THE SHOP IM NGL I need more of it too, bro. I'm probably gonna make an extended version of it later lol

Very cool mixture of styles throughout the OST. A couple of my favorites were Boss with it's funky slap bass groove and then The Volcano was super exciting with the proggy freak out in the second half of the tune (of which you were able to smoothly transition into and out of it)

Developer

I'm really glad you liked it! I made this late at night while listening to some complex stuff for my classes in college, and took a ton of inspiration from it.

oh my god, really love the polyrhythm uses. So many cool chords. This is the most awesome submission.

Nice one, the overall soundtrack fits well the theme. Special mention to "The ShoP" and the slap bass of "BOSS", my favorite moments of the soundtrack. Great job, fellow Logic Pro user !

Developer

Thanks, fellow Logic User!! I had a ton of fun writing this during my 11:59s for college lol

This is so lovely!!!! Easily my favorite submission so far. The main melody, shop theme, and boss battle stand out the most to me. I’d suggest more creative titles, but I’m not sure if it matters too much in this setting. Regardless, amazing work!

Developer

Thank you so much for listening! I had so many creative titles in mind, but this time I want to keep it simple this time....

Makes sense! Again though this one is right up my alley, I've listened to plenty more and it's still my favorite. I wish you luck 🐦‍⬛
