Idle with no purpose, needs more work if you plan to build up this game.

I managed to figure out how the game works but with no goal in mind, I don't really feel it appealing. I saw the game screenshots that showed different items and I wondered on how to achieve those. It might be better to show in the Buy Menu (dim colour to show not available yet or perhaps the level required), so players can treat it as the goal when Selling the harvest (?).

  • Youtube Timestamped Link
  • Graphics : Sufficient but not great.
  • Music / Sfx :
    • SFX : Fine
    • Music : Not a fan of it , more variety would be good.
  • GUI : Hotbar and tools are fine (Scythe could use a rework) , Store menu is a bit ugly and could use a touch-up.
  • Gameplay :
    • Barebones , you can farm two plants, water them, collect them and expand your land to do more of the same.
    • Can't move the 4 objects around out of the way, nor do two of the four do anything to benefit you.
      • The light is at least partially functionally as it does light the surroundings up at night.
  • Notes :
    • I tried to use farmland , not the 'green' land on the water to expand the island.
      • I found out post-stream as I checked the game a second time to better write the review that I should've in fact used the other land.
    • The 'factory' doesn't really look like it's an intractable , the conveyor has a yellow outline to it signifying such.
    • There's no real depth here, no reason to farm and get money other than just doing more of the same and expanding the island.
    • The click and drag to sell items , quite frankly sucks. Right clicking to select the item you want to sell would be wholly preferable , as well as a slider or buttons to select quantity. (You have it for purchasing, why not selling?)
    • Name the plants, especially if you want to add more things and go a route of a Stardew / Harvest moon.
    • A goal I feel is needed here, 'tom nook' needing his money before he breaks your knees, the robot mother needing specific plants for bio-fuel , something.
    • Let us buy lights from the 'factory' , pathways, etc.

As this is, there's not much fun to be had here as there's not much to do. The game is functional, I found nothing that seemed to be broken but it's severely lacking in it's current state.

thank you so much for the feedback ☺️

Jam Host(+1)

Hello! Welcome to Feedback Quest 8! My name's Hythrain, a co-host and one of the streamers for this event! This feedback is being written live as I stream your game! If you're interested in seeing my live reaction, let me know and I can send you a link to the VOD once it's posted to YouTube!

So my normal approach for any game in these events is simple: I get the game, make sure it's not a virus, then play it with as little information on how to play as possible. This way, I can judge how intuitively someone can figure out the game. Only if it's obvious that I need to read more will I do so. I note this so you can get a sense where some of these feedback comes from. In addition, I want to note that feedback and rating are different; don't use this feedback to gauge what I'll rate, nor should you view my rating as entirely indicative of my feedback.

So I'm gonna be honest here... I did not understand at all that you could get more buildings from the one building on the other island. Instead, I was spending my entire time focusing on trying to grow more stuff and get more plots to grow more stuff. Which was a lot of time, because the return you get is abysmal. You either plant one plant that nets you a 100% return but you constantly have to water them, or you plant one that nets you a 50% return but you don't have to maintain it anywhere near as much. Meanwhile, to buy a new plot is $20, to expand the land is $15 and everything the building has is $100 or more (meaning you have to harvest at least 100 plants to get one thing). That is just incredibly slow and not fun. Instead, it became boring and monotonous. At points my vision would blur out as I just had no real focus on the game and was playing mindlessly. That's not exactly a great way for someone to view the game.

On top of making plants have more value, you should also direct the player to want to access the building.

Lastly, the click and drag to sell thing is... honestly, just not a good idea. Heck, the whole set up of "click and drag to drop one item, hold shift to drop them all" is even worse. Like, is there a purpose to keeping the plants you're going to sell? Do they have value in another way? If not, then there's no reason for a player to not just sell everything they have on hand (and would made the storage box redundant due to a lack of different items at this time). On top of just making it a click to pick up, click to drop thing, you should drop the use of shift entirely until you have something that requires you to hold onto the players you're growing.

Thank you so much for giving it a go 😊

And I really appreciate your honest feedback πŸ™

This game is super cute!

I like the core ideas here, and I think this could lead to a really compelling gameplay loop. I especially like the idea of buying land to expand your little island and reaching other little islands to find more upgrades and things to buy... It reminds me of old minecraft skyblock maps a little bit. It's very compelling!

I don't think I have a whole lot to add that the other feedbackers didn't already mention, but I'd be excited to see how this game grows and expands. I think that there are really good bones here and the game could be really fun if there was more to work towards. Good stuff!

I played it here on stream around 23:30

Thank you so much for streaming and for the feedback πŸ™

It is very helpful to see the player's perspective πŸ™‚

Hey, I played your game a little while back and I didn't rate it until now.  I mostly enjoyed my experience, but when I got to a point where I was getting a lot of crops and needed a lot of money to buy things, I thought I could only click individually and drag each crop, and didn't feel like doing that.  It sounds like there is an option to press shift to sell everything at once!  Definitely would have made my experience better for knowing that.  I think making that very clear will go a long way to improve people's experiences.   I think in general making the tutorial stronger so that it's clear what you're supposed to do (like I accidentally shoveled my farmland once, and I'm not even sure why shoveling is a good idea)?  Anyway, it's a cute idea, and again, I enjoyed playing until I hit that wall.

Developer

Thank you so much for the feedback 😊 ye, I might need to reverse shift by default at least πŸ˜… and will make it clear that there is such an option...

The game got a pretty good core idea (very similar to the game "Forager"), but tons of polish and way more content is needed to make it fun to play.

πŸ”΄ There's no keybindings for the tools/toolbar.
πŸ”΄ Tending to the crops doesn't feel rewarding.
πŸ”΄ Camera movement is choppy when tracking the character.

🟒Art is cute
🟒The core idea will work with a better execution

I sent a DM with more detailed feedback and more suggestions on how to improve the game :)

I like the unique setting of this game! The controls are easy to learn and intuitive.

Things you could improve:

  • The music sets a good athmosphere, but it gets annoying over time. -> Would be good to add different tracks and a volume slider.
  • The movement of the robot feels a bit slow. I would not mind if it moves ~50% faster
  • Add the ability to sell multiple items quickly
  • Give the items in the shop names

Overall a good start, I see potential here!

Fun little game!

Well polished little package with very cute graphics, effective sounds, and a simple a satisfying loop. I liked this. The music is appropriately bouncy, but quickly gets repetitive.

I was a bit confused to start out, accidentally dug up my one little plot of dirt, and didn't know where to go from there, so I restarted, which was unnecessary. I then figured out how to buy stuff and from there it was mostly smooth sailing. I'm a dummy but I'm not very experienced with this kind of game.  Some things that I noted:

  • The sprinklers were crucial for not going insane
  • Would have been nice to have an overlay to show the area the sprinkler will cover when placing it, and covers when it's placed
  • I figured out that holding shift can be used for selling everything of a good, but some +/- buttons akin to what's in the buy tab would be nice, because I didn't care for the sense of despair that the prospect of dragging the produce one-by-one into the slot instilled in me.
  • I assume one wants to place the initial seeds under the lamp, but that area isn't large enough to place a sprinkler without some of it's capacity being wasted... very triggering.

It's a very nice start... now you just need more of everything :-)

Oh wow, I did not figure out shift, and stopped playing because I didn't feel like taking the time to click hundreds of times to get enough money for more stuff.  Literally a game changer!
