How does your game fit the Magical Girl Genre?
The game involves strategically choosing, placing, upgrading, and deploying magical girls with unique abilities to put an end to the ongoing threat of malevolent yokai, Phantoms.

Which theme(s) do you pick?
Phantom Pain, Peace Walker

How does your game fit those theme(s)?
The Phantoms represent the concept of phantom pain, and the magical girls' responsibility is to put an end to them and cleanse the world of Phantom pain entirely. Considering the "pain" aspect, Japanese fashion subcultures such as Yami Kawaii, Menhera, and Jirai Kei heavily inspired the designs of the magical girls due to their focus on medical imagery, mental health issues, and the blend of dark and pastel aesthetics. Pills, band-aids, syringes, stethoscopes, scalpels, bandages, and hospital crosses are infused into the girls, their weapons, and their companions. The Peace Walker theme was interpreted very literally and provided the base inspiration for the gameplay mechanics. The Phantoms don't attack the player and are thus peaceful as they walk towards the end goal on the map.

If you follow any of the optional challenges, elaborate as you like.

Were the assets for your game made during the jam? Elaborate as you see fit.
All of the 3D environmental art, character chibi art/animations, character splash art, UI/UX elements, and audio were created for the game during the jam.

***WARNING*** YOU NEW VERSION GETS FLAGGED AS A VIRUS BY WINDOWS DEFENDER!

Hello, this was quite well made! My only complaint would be that the menus after you beat a battle seemed really quite confusing and I had no idea what I was doing! I played the older version because of the above mentioned warning!  Probably should look into that xD

Salutations!

This is truly addictive to play and got me hooked for a long time.
The Tower Defense gameplay and the lovely art direction that were presented here made the experience truly enjoyable, and it was really fun to play.

The Characters are lovely, and their designs are remarkable. Getting to know their backstories through their cards was totally a plus here.

And I loved that detail you've made in the Title Screen, haha. I got the Bald Yami art, and it took me by surprise the first time I noticed it.
I liked the 2.5D style and the animations, and the Familiars were so cute, and if I keep listing things I liked, I may never finish this comment.

I did have a Crash that I couldn't reproduce on my first run, but I got to finish it and see the Diagnosis Screen on my second run without issue.

And lastly, I have some notes from my experience:

  • I'm not sure what I did or how I did it. But there was a moment where every Magical Girl Card Cost dropped to 0, and I could just start spamming my way out of a round. I think that was unfair for the yokais u.u
  • I think it would be cool to add the controls in-game. My first round, I truly had no Idea that you could rotate the characters, and it blew my mind once I read a comment here about it. But I do acknowledge that it was also my bad for not reading the page in its entirety before.
  • The volume worked weird for me because it was loud at the start, but when adjusting it and then starting to play, the volume got real quiet. Might be an issue on my part, but I'm not quite sure.

My final thoughts are that:

The concept was really good, the designs were delightful, the familiars were cute, the Yokais did scare me a bit on my first run, and I found my experience really enjoyable. I don't know if there are plans to continue developing this and add more content in the future, but I would love to play more of this.

I had some crashes:

  • After 2nd battle I selected [Heal] (2 hearts to 3), then [Add Card] and crashed
  • On a replay, again after the 2nd battle I selected [Heal] (3 hearts to 4), then [Wishes] and crashed

Windows version 1.3

Otherwise an enjoyable, complete experience. Well balanced.

I really enjoyed playing this as a tower defense player, and got to give props for incorporating magical girls so well here. It took me a bit to get comfortable with the game but I think I got the hang of it pretty well. The lasso girl is really fast and powerful and with the support magical girl giving her boosts, she was pretty formidable. I would have liked to be able to rotate the characters though because they only faced 1 direction. I also want to say that I really liked the art direction and the 2.5D vibe going on. Only complaint was that the effects for the support took up a lot of visual space, and also the support effect didn't apply to any units placed after the support girl.

Lastly, I went back to the main menu to the quit the game and one of the characters was bald??

Developer

hello!! You can rotate the magical girls by pressing ‘R’!

this was fun! i love tower defense games so i enjoyed it. I did have a hard time understanding Hera's attacks, it feels like every other time her animation plays, she hits. Not sure if that's intended, or even whats happening, though. Generally some extra polish would push this further, but as-is its fun!

I really enjoyed this game. If it had more maps, I can see myself playing it for hours on end. The only issue I could find is that the aura around the girls when they get a buff is pretty big, so it gets hard to see the map if I have a lot of girls buffed at the same time.

Hey, this one hooked me for a bit but I couldn't use anyone but the lasso girl, with my most "efficient" strategy being the lasso spam at the right top corner of the map. The other girls just don't deal enough damage to kill anything.  Maybe I missed something, please correct me.

The character cards have aliasing issues, mip maps probably can help with that
