I have a game that fits one of the themes, so I want to make an improved version to submit here, is that allowed?

ideally it would be a totally new game, it wouldn’t be fair on the other entrants if it was an improved version of a game you’ve already made with the same mechanics etc

But it’s alright if it’s just a spiritual sequel or set in the same universe!
