Description
One Final Bash! is a game about spending the last night of summer doing what you love most - adventuring - before the season turns and it's back to the monotonous grind. Let's shake up this tiny coastal town one last time!

I took inspiration from the image theme and gave the soundtrack a slightly maritime feel.

The album cover is based on the image theme by xincere.art, adapted by me.

The soundtrack was created with Reaper.

Runtime: 4:11(no bonus track), 5:10 (bonus track included)

TRACK LIST

1 - Main Menu - Self-explanatory. Gets the player pumped for adventure.

2 - Lousy Ol Town - Plays when you're walking through the same crappy ol' town you've lived in your whole life.

3 - Onward - Plays when the adventure is underway and you're actually having fun!

BONUS - You Lost - Unused track from when this submission was originally much darker in tone.

Message from the artist
This was my first composing jam, it was a lot of fun and stress at the same time :)

Theme

One Summer Night
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
Summer nights are bittersweet - when you're a kid they're a glorious escape from responsibility, and they can be the best nights of your life, but you know the season will end eventually. This soundtrack reflects the choice to live in the moment and stop worrying about the end.

Main Menu - Fun energetic happy tune, Could use a little space on the melody to help the ideas sink in a little.

Lousy Ol town - Bass solo! How Dare you!I think it's actually pretty cool, just the rest of the time it could use taking a back seat a little more. Think it just needs to hit the root notes a little more.

Onward - Very upbeat, works well!

Bonus - You lost - Melancholic track, if it's a death track I think it could use hitting a bit harder at the start, but that could also be done by sfx

Nice work!

"Main Menu" is fun and sets the mood for the album nicely. "Lousy Ol Town" has a really lovely main piano melody -for me it changes the meaning of the title to be more sarcastic or fun rather than spiteful. Like, "yeah, it's my lousy ol town but it's still my home and I'll never admit it but I do kinda like being here I GUESS."

I like how you brought back the piano melody from "Main Menu" as a bass element in "Onward." This does kind of sound like crash bandicoot now that some other comment put that in my head lol. That's not a bad thing though - it's whimsical, fun, light in tone and fits pretty well with what you've described.

Some good feedback about mixing and variation in the comments, and I would definitely emphasize what Micerama said about a "run-on sentence" for "Main Menu." Less is more is a really important concept! The amount of rests you have is often just as important as the amount of notes. If the melody of your song just plays 1/4th notes or just 1/32nd notes the whole time, it's going to be pretty boring pretty quickly. But having a some sections that are really fast with slower/longer notes inbetween is how you really create impact. Music is nothing without context - when you let your elements build up, they grow more powerful when you finally let them loose. "Building up" can apply to 8 bars, an entire song, or two notes worth - that's the fun part for me; deciding how to strategically work in that really cool 3 seconds of noise that you made so that the rest of the song emphasizes it!

Regardless, awesome first submission and looking forward to what you bring to the table next time!

Thank you so much! I have learned a lot from this jam for sure.

I like the vibe a lot, it's laid back but also bouncy and energetic at the same time which is a fun combination. The use of 7/4 was also clean, usually I hear it more for weird off-kilter stuff but here it feels a lot more like a subtle rhythmic layer and I think that's very cool. You've got a great ear for the motif usage, though for some very specific feedback I think I'd like to hear a bit more silence at the end of some of the melodic lines. For example at 0:36 from the main menu, the first half of the melody is awesome and catchy but the second half where it stays on the lower notes for a while make it feel a bit like a run-on sentence, if that makes sense? Like the melody just resolved itself and I'd like some more time to sit with it. Again that's like, extremely specific and minor, this was a bunch of fun to listen to :)

Thank you! I appreciate the feedback, I can see where you and others are coming from there.

Great work, unique compared to many of the other submissions! I really like how you carry similar instruments throughout the whole soundtrack to make it feel cohesive.

That's one expertly told story. I especially liked the bass lines in Lousy Ol Town, so funky. Great soundtrack with great selection of sounds and some really creative arrangement choices. Had a great time listening!

Main Menu: Groovy! Love the organ sound. Gives me beach vibes.

Lousy Ol Town: Compositionally this makes such a great town theme. I'm trying to place what game it reminds me of (might just be Crash like everyone else lol). Nice percussion!

Onward: Love the intro melody, especially coupled with the time signature I find it pretty memorable. The chromatic bass movement upwards at 0:20 is so cool. Rhythm got me moving! It's got the feel of some of the more rhythm heavy tracks from Trials of Mana. I second what Troisnyx said, I feel like if the chords in the back were broken up a bit more, it would add to the rhythm even more!

Oh I forgot the bonus oops (edit incoming)

BONUS: You Lost: This is in fact a much darker tone so I can understand leaving it out. This is really cool though. Love the bass sound and that higher synth a lot. In a more extended OST if it were a real game, I could see this fitting in somewhere especially late game. Or as a game over theme like the name suggests.

Nice work!

I'm glad you liked it! Thank you so much for the breakdown.

The opener really grabbed me! There's something wonderfully off-kilter about it. Definitely helped by that warbley organ sound, but it's also in the rhythmic feel. Really interesting compositional style, I dig it a lot.

The bass on Lousy Ol Town is goin' for it! Super fun to listen to. Your use of different time signatures is really enjoyable, especially feeling that on track 3. I agree with someone else in the comments that I got some Crash Bandicoot vibes from this and that's certainly no bad thing! The synthy bass sound that comes in towards the end of that track really pulls it together too.

The bonus track is a nice change of pace, but the style still fits the soundtrack. Honestly, I would've probably kept that in and maybe made it track 3 (and track 3 would become track 4). Could easily be some music for a different area that is slightly more foreboding. Would add to the story! The bouncy melodic bit over the top feels like it keeps it close enough in tone to the rest.

Really enjoyed this even though it's quite short! I agree that there could be some touching up with the mix and maybe some added expression or variation ok play style with some of the instruments, but the ideas and rhythms and feel are all super engaging to me. Very enjoyable.

loving the vibe of the title track! the choice in instrumentation is very nice! the melodic line is very rhythmic and super groovy, love it!! super nice!

oo loving the chill vibe of the second track while it keeps the same melodic ideas as the first track. definitely gives the feel of a "crappy ol' town you've lived in your whole life" with this nostalgic and moody vibe you've built - it truly feels like just another day. again, loving the melody!

ooo i like this battle theme! its such a vibe and i love the attention given to the changes in time signature, chord progression, and melodic lines. i wouldve loved some variation in instrumentation here to give the track more of a drive, but even without that, it's wonderfully composed! loving it!!!

ooo ur bonus track is super dark and moody i love the chord progression and the deep synth! i'm glad you chose to include it, i can definitely hear the darker tones but they don't feel out of place!

overall super fun listen! this OST is such a vibe, thank u for sharing! :]

I feel like the final mix not being ideal is pretty much the only feedback I can give to maybe help out even though you must know it too. But other than that I was rocking my chair up until the last track lol, you definitely know how to make people vibe!! Great work the OST is really good!

Thank you! Mixing still eludes me lol. I'm glad you liked it!

I was the same on OST Jam 07 and it's far from perfect but it's getting better, pretty sure that's something you'll get the hang of just as fast!!

The third track got me off track lol, what time signature was that? I enjoyed all the tracks. This was fun to listen to, even if it's relatively short. Nice job!

Thanks! It switches between 7/4 and 4/4.

Main Menu feels proper funky, and has this nice Crash Bandicoot vibe. Melody can be simplified a bit more -- I kinda feel like, in the second half, it's talking over everything else and not giving the rest of the instrumentation space to breathe.

Lousy Ol' Town, now the slow pace of it really sets the mood, a not-so-lively town. It's moody, and the melody is singable. The piano melody being in the lower register is not as overpowering, but it can be after a while. Use your rests more!

Onward has some funky time signature use which I quite like. Melody is also singable in parts. It feels like it's lacking the gravitas of LET'S GET UP AND GOOOOOOOO -- the bass feels nice and you've got the melody, but everything else behind it feels quite static and could use some movement. Listen to a Crash Bandicoot stage theme, from 4 onwards,  and notice the stuff going on in the background. Not all of it is legato. It's detached in parts, very staccato, and that conveys excitement, movement. That's what we're missing here, I think.

The losing theme was, as you said, a much darker shift in tone.

Your strongest suit here is your drums and bass. I feel like you know how to make the foundations of a very good pocket -- arguably, the first step in this equation, you've nailed really well. All that remains is to build on top of it. Pocket is what gets us moving, after all -- and an adventure game where we need to be absolutely schmoovin' certainly needs it.

All the best this jam!

I like this! The hammond keyboard in Lousy ol Town, I can imagine myself just wandering around the town, talking to cute pixel characters telling me it's not what it used to be. For the leitmotif, I am getting slight Undyne vibes (Undertale soundtrack lives in my head rent free), and I so am not sure if it's catchy to me because of the familiarity or because it's actually catchy, but that's a me problem. It is catchy, and it is nice. The sheer organised chaos of drums also makes me happy.

"Game over" bonus track is a genius idea. Will copy that from you for the next jam.

Thank you for this submission. I'm glad I listened to it.
