Description
🎨Album art by Jacob Irizarry (You're the best!)

This three track OST tells a mythological story of Summer coming to an end. The Last Knight of Summer stands braces for the coming inevitable battle against the unstoppable force of winter. The battle comes every year, and every year the knight will lose. They stand alone, the forces that first pushed winter back long gone, but still they will fight.

Summer - I decided on strings and horns to make a warm and full sounding orchestration to represent summer. It starts out plucky and playful and transitions to a legato section representing a lazy summer afternoon.

Winter - This track uses a winds ensemble for the main section. I wanted it to start haunting but then transition into a more somber sound. While winter is the "death" of summer in this myth, I still wanted winter to come across as beautiful in its own right. (There are still a few Dies Iraes thrown in there for fun and profit)

The Last Knight of Summer - I wrote an artcore piece to represent the fight because it uses orchestral elements while still having that videogame boss fight feel. Unfortunately this was the biggest casualty of my time constraints for this jam. I wanted to incorporate leitmotifs from the other two tracks but I didn't have the time to get it to sound right in the new context. Even though I couldn't make it as long or as in depth as I wanted, I'm still pretty happy with how it came out given the time I had.

Message from the artist
Lone Rabbit has a habit (heh) of hosting these jams during insanely busy weeks/weekends for me specifically. no one else. They're only out to get me. It's messed up.

Between dealing with disease, a full time job, rehearsals for a show that's in 2 weeks, and family responsibilities I somehow managed to get something out. I usually focus on electronic music, sound design, and production but for this jam I decided to train my composition abilities with some orchestral music (and some electronic at the end). As a result of the time crunch I didn't get much time to work on the technical aspects of the audio. I would love some feedback specifically on the composition side of things.

Thanks for listening!

Love the chaos and energy in the last track, it's a huge payoff to the slower pieces that came before it. Has some Danny Baranovsky vibes to it. Nice work overall!

That was really fun to listen to!! I think you do a great job with arriving at musical climaxes. I (along with everyone else in the comments it seems lol) was surprised by the absolute fire track at the end, and hope you get to expand on it later. I actually wish there was more elements from the last track in the other two, as that would make the tracks sound more like they belong in the same universe. Great job!!

Damn I was not expecting that banger at the end.

I enjoyed this! I'll echo what people said before me and say some sections were a little empty, which exposed some instruments that didn't sound very natural.

Overall though, I liked it!

Jofes recommended your submission in our server and I see why now lol, this music is very much his style. Very solid writing overall, love your use of chord progressions and sound textures in your writing, it all comes together for a complete piece. The Last Knight of Summer definitely stood out as this had a very different approach compared to the other two tracks, would be cool to see the use of more synth sounds in the other two tracks too as it added some extra excitement but I get why you went with this approach and it works well. Good project overall, keep it up!

It's true. I asked Lone Rabbit to specifically make sure you were inconvenienced as much as possible for the jam.

The last knight of summer was the best track easily. It was high energy and very catchy. Actually, It might be one of my favorite tracks of the jam! If only it had a second verse! It's too short right now which sucks because it's so good!

I love the variety here!! The last song was especially a big surprise. I do wish it was a bit longer though and had an extra movement or two to it. It feels like it ends just as it's getting started. But really nice variety here, I could definitely see the vision of what you were going for.

To start, i want to say that Winter is a really well performed track. I like the melodies, where you take them, and the whimsical nature. I'm especially a sucker for windchime flourishes in general. The last track is also very dnb final boss video gamey, and it reminds me a lot of the first time I laid down a similar track because the leitmotif you use in it is really fricken good!

I appreciate the light tone you're going for too, but the mix starts to get very empty very fast and the velocity/dynamics of your notes could be improved on the first track. Respect for committing to the jam and putting out tracks regardless, cuz as a whole that's the only way any of us will improve. You've clearly got an eye for the orchestral track composition, which is something I usually struggle with, so I think you're melodies would work if the execution were better. Good job my dude!

Very thoughtful and light! Fun too. Great work here. You might want to add some more reverb as it sounds a little draw in the beginning.  Perhaps some more sound scaping would be good? Like dynamics and such. Other than that, it was great! And the idea too! Very creative. Yah, that last track did it for me. Great work there! Has that battle and Chip Davis feel to it. Really solid. Maga Man vibes all the way. Bravo!

Nice work making what you did! I see berlin orchestra mentioned in comments, it's not bad but unfortunately good sounding orchestras are something you probably have to pay for (I used the free berlin and BBC orchestras in my entry). To get them to sound right you need to be able to adjust mics and attack of notes and all the things that are locked in payed versions.

I liked the compositions, I think I would have put the opening melody on something else, maybe and oboe that is then supported by bassoon later on, it's a bit odd hearring the horn playing really high staccato. Incredibly hard to play! Alot more idiomatic on reeds or just pizzicato strings. It would play the legato theme well i think. The melody didn't really fit the chords at the end in my opinion. The melody outlining the Eb major chord sounds a little odd over the F major chord in the progression, i think one of them should change.

Everything else was really cool, nice one! Maybe just some mixing on winter to get the reeds and strings to gell a little more with the ambience (if you had more time I'm sure). Would love to hear more stuff resembling the last track!

Your piece shows a thoughtful combination of strings, piano, and foley.

The structure is clear and easy to follow, and it’s clear you’re exploring interesting ideas. At the same time, some sections feel a bit straightforward, and there’s room to experiment further with dynamics, layering, or thematic development and create a more vivid soundscape. Notes can be struck a little out of sync to add a more human feel, for example.

And by the way, last track is bonkers ! it is like the restrain you showed previously suddenly vanishes and all hell breaks loose.

A pretty good soundtrack overall, I like the story being told, although I have a few things to say.

This has been pointed out by 0mni, but the orchestral plugins you've used for this seems to be in detriment of your overall composition skills. I'm not saying it should be realistic, but the strings and brass especially felt really robotic, which harms especially the first track, although I think you got more comfortable with it on the second track, which I liked a bunch. The bells at around 0:25 in Winter are really well implemented. Summer had a thing were a lot of few melodies started and ended very suddenly, it felt like you were using a synth instead of a string ensemble

The third track, which takes a more electronic approach, was pretty good. Strangely enough it didn't feel jarring since you combined previously used instruments into it. I have a feeling you were in your element when making it lol, not to undermine your previous tracks of course. I still think Winter is my favourite, the composition for it is really interesting and capture the mood you tried to convey really well

Pretty alright soundtrack overall, just needed a few tweaks here and there. You sound like you were busy in your personal life though so it's understandable lol. Keep composing

The composition is really good, unfortunately I believe the chosen sound fonts/plugins bring down the impact a little but besides that it was a really calming then exciting listen! (A pretty good free orchestral library is the Berlin Free Orchestra)

I also love bringing the wind back at the end of The Last Knight of Summer and wish I could've heard it with the leitmotifs

Fantastic work! Your composition skills are great, the chord progressions throughout are really nice. The Last Knight of Summer is awesome, I love how dynamic it is, you don't stick around on one idea for very long through the whole song! My favourite track has to be Winter though, it's very Demon's/Dark Souls and you definitely succeeded in giving it a great sombre atmosphere.

Really liked the Winter track!
