Everybody is my friend!
Would you like to be friends too?
Yes you do
YES YOU DO
This track has four sections: we start in the regular area of the map close to where :) lives. Then :) finds us and sings us a happy little song! At the start of the encounter, :) is still very friendly, and hitting them doesn't seem to do anything. But eventually the mask comes off, and the real boss battle begins.
I used bells in the melody, inspired by the bells on :)'s hat (though not the same kind of bells).

Very cool! Incorporating the sung "happy little song" together with the static noise was very creative! Incorporating multiple sections representing different phases is nice. I wonder if it would've been cool if there was a build-up or transition to the fourth section, though this instant transition has its perks as well. Each section has its own aspect of the horror, just like in movies or games, which is wonderful.
Overall, really creative entry, I'll remember this one :D
Thank you for listening!
Wow, 4 phases to a boss battle is quite impressive! The primary descriptors I felt for the 4 phases in order were exploratory, creepy, archaic/ominous, and then determined/vibing. Personally I felt the first three phases felt very cohesive and flowed very nicely. I like the fourth phase - the transition to a different style felt a little abrupt and I wonder if keeping the background bells would have aided in that transition? I think the third phase was my favorite! You dialed up the creepy factor to a new level on this track and I think this fits the character marvelously well. Great job and thank you for sharing!
Thank you for listening, it's great to hear your impression of the different phases!
Your music takes us on a real journey. It's cool to hear the voice of :)
A few technical details:
In the first phase, your bass sound is panned to the right, which throws off the balance. It's not mandatory, but in general, it's better for the bass to be centered.
The glitch sound (white noise) made me think :) was talking to us through a screen. Maybe bitcrushing the white noise would have made it sound less like a TV.
Apart from these details, I loved it.
Thank you!
This was my first time trying Ableton Live, and I underestimated how long it would take to learn basic navigation of the software. I have no idea how the bass got panned in the first place, I probably clicked something by accident :'(
I am so going to learn to bitcrush! Ideally I would have liked to use effects to warp sections of the audio instead of replacing it outright with clips of white noise. Look out for Round 3, by then I hope to have learned how to use Ableton a little more effectively :)
The voice acting is well done. I assume it was voice acting at least because it sounds like it has real inflections and was just modified in some way.
Thank you! Yes, that's me, just altered a bit in Audacity.
