Description
The year is 1999. In "Evenfall: Death Come Mourning", you play as Detective Nina searching for an elusive serial killer. Heavily inspired by Parasite Eve and Hotel Dusk 215.

File 01: Evenfall

June 20th

Time slows; they say the nights in Evenfall could last a lifetime. Artificial lights amalgamate with the night sky. Warm, fresh blood softly spills onto the cold, lifeless concrete pressed against your back. Has death ever felt this gentle? Somehow, you think, "if only every night were this peaceful," as your vision blurs in a sea of stars.

[A victim's perspective. Played in the opening cinematic.]

File 02: Midnight Rendezvous, 12:04 am

"A vacation? Don't be ridiculous."
Weeks have passed without a new single lead on the Evenfall killer. Nina is the best of the best, but with nowhere to start, the case is beginning to wear her down. Maybe another drive out in the city with her partner would clear her head.

[An introduction to our protagonist and deuteragonist: Nina and her partner, Rio. They have a routine of taking a nice drive after a long day at work.]

File 03: Discovery, 1:17 am

"Let's get to work."
Called in again. Another body. Another crime scene. Something Nina is far too familiar with.

[Played during specific investigations and while questioning citizens to gather information.]

File 04: Half Full, Half Empty, 3:26 am

"Play a song for me, will you?"
Somehow, on the bright side, the night still lives and breathes. Guess she can't keep a good drink down.

[You can save the game at Nina's favorite bar in the city, maybe chat with her partner and colleagues.]

Message from the artist
I have my partner and many of my friends to thank for helping me with the worldbuilding and concept of the project. I couldn't have done it without them. I'm also really glad this jam gave me the motivation to finally make my own jazz ballad. I love Bill Evans, so if there's anyone here who likes him, I hope they'll enjoy my tribute to him in the 4th song. I wanted to make more than 4, but I just didn't have much time left, unfortunately, but I hope you'll enjoy listening to what I could do! :)

Theme

One Summer Night

How does it fit the theme?
The game would be taking place during the night Nina successfully breaks the cycle of murders that have occurred for almost a year. The case has taken over much of her life, and she will do anything to be free of it.

Goddamn dude that first piece is legitimately the only piece that has made me nearly tear up from this jam. The only thing I can think of to make these pieces better is to make them full-length pieces, because each of them left me wanting more and more and I'm sure even full-length I'd think the same. EXTRAORDINARY WORK!!!!

wtf... utterly flawless I have literally no words. Another 10/10 submission but I'd rate it higher if I could jesus. Vangelis on the OST Jam is NOT something I was expecting xD

It was a hot rainy morning when I slumped out of bed... A stone cold, never miss a beat, detective with one thing on my mind. Evenfall. It was the last submission to a jam I had no time for, but for the sake of justice id make this exception. As stumbled out of the cold dark corner of my quarters, I grabbed a cigarette and swig of gin and snapped on both studio monitors to a buzz. "huh, it seems like that sad sack of a website itch.io is still kicking after all. What a surprise" I thought to myself. I expertly navigated to the Jam page like a bloodhound on the scent of criminal misdeeds. Finally, I was here. The Youtube link in the webpage couldnt have possibly prepared me for the doozy of a case I was about to find myself tangled up in and I suddenly realized.... I am going to need a harder drink for this one.

After unraveling a complicated web of lore, smooth jazz, and a smell that was too good to be true, I found myself falling deeper into a hole of inspiration and ideas, of which none of could match what Id just heard. Expertly crafted piano lazily trotting right from the dive bar down the street (of which i frequented often more and more these days). Soft brush strokes and hi-hat taps trailing closely along just behind any perceivable beat like a toddler following stuck to their moma's side. A stand up freghtless bass so subtly sitting in the back trying to remain sly and out of sight like a purse snatcher blending into a crowd to fade away...

I knew immediately that the killer responsible for this despicable orchestration of a dastardly plot had to be a mastermind in their own right. Fortunately for me I had a lead. It just a crumb left behind, but as a stone cold, never miss a beat, detective I knew one simple fact: Where there are crumbs, there is a trail.

Through all their careful planning, whether unwillingly or by design, a single name appeared on the results page:

BeepoStudios

I throw on my leather duster and favorite dark brimmed hat and decide to take a stroll down the town to have a talk with a few of my sources on any whispers about this 'Beepo' that they may have.

This case won't be as simple as I had initially figured, but, thats the life of a stone cold, never miss a beat, detective like myself. To me, this would be just another day in office, although how correct this assumption was remained to be seen...

Perhaps more is to come.

The blend of jazz and retro synth sounds you've got going on stands out to me as a nice change of pace in this jam. The simple combo of instruments in "Evenfall" works really well here. The heavy reverb on the sax laid on top of a thick background synth makes this a really cool intro to the album.

The Parasite Eve influence is very pronounced to me on "Midnight Rendezvous" and "Discovery," I think Shimomura-san would approve. The former track really gets me thinking of the world map in Parasite Eve, and I think fits your description of driving around the city perfectly. The bass vibes and the percussion is just prominent enough to fit the mood. This track gets things moving nicely coming right after "Evenfall," and sets up the tense atmosphere in "Discovery" perfectly.

"Half Full, Half Empty" takes an interesting direction, you definitely nailed the jazz club vibe here!

Overall, this was a fun listen! I'm usually not a fan of songs that are slow, minimalist or brass heavy; and yet your first track delivered all of those things with pretty solid execution that had me straight up vibing. I also enjoyed the little bit of Parasite Eve nostalgia hehe.

Great work, thanks for sharing!

Very fine soundtrack, very well done !

I can easily hear the Hotel Dusk/Last Window influence (especially in the last two track, with Discovery reminding me of So Noted, and Half Full, Half Empty having moments reminding me of Rachel's theme Serenity) and it worked out very well with your retro detective setting.
Speaking of influences, Midnight Rendezvous reminded me of Paradise (Stay Forever) from Paradise Killer (Nina from the excellent artwork from your album sort of reminds me of the protagonist from Paradise Killer also now that I think about it) so great to see !

Speaking more about the tracks themselves, all of them are very delightful with their jazzy ambient style, it really immerses you in this setting you've built, I really enjoyed it a lot.
My favourite tracks (if I had to choose) would be Discovery (very great melody throughout and nice variations throughout) and Half Full, Half Empty (with that very soothing rhythm and arrangements, very great work on that one).

Overall excellent work, congrats !

Damn this is buttery smooth. I love the pulpy detective-esque atmosphere. Really well done!

This is SUCH fine light jazz on all four tracks.   I don't normally integrate other peoples tracks like -backwards- in historical depth down my genre playlists on SC when I rate but i dropped each of them into like the most recent -four- jazz and ambient lists I was so blown away.  Gave this submission high marks all over.

Gave you an itch follow, if you like the thing(s) on my page(s), consider doing the same.

Cheers!

Evenfall: Oh WOW that sax. This is quality. Where's the sax sample from? Quality work on the dynamics, wish I had as much time to get mine as nice lol

Midnight Rendezvous: Ooh this is chill. I appreciated the little subtleties in the percussion. Nice bassline, fits the drum rhythm very well.

Discovery: Love that piano line. I really really like the chord choices towards the end (sounds like i9-vi9).

Half Full, Half Empty: Some good classic jazz to close off, I really love this. Nice chords, nice bassline, nice percussion, just good all around.

I love the combination of jazz and ambient, I was vibing the whole time. Really love this submission. Great work!

There are few things in life better than a smooth sax solo. This delivers. The smooth noire vibes here a just so satisfying man wtf. This album makes me compulsively want to put up a corkboard in a dark room with photos and red string, then go meet up with someone at an inconspicuous downtown coffee shop to secretly exchange information. Amazing work.

These were some serious lowkey bops. Midnight Rendezvous was probably my favorite song here. It reminded me of Danganronpa when you explore which I guess is fitting as this is a detective game.

Was like being back in New Mombassa.

I really enjoyed the vibe you set and the tone definitely fit the aesthetic perfectly.

A great project :)

The first track was absolutely gorgeous, had me impressed immediately! The following tracks are still very solid and are written very well for Jazz, I love it! Good work on this Beepo!!
