Explain your hypothetical game concept & how you interpreted the theme!
Frankly, I neglected to think of what kind of game these would fit. I would imagine an adventure RPG would do it, but suggestions are welcome lol

---------------------------------------------

As far as the Refusal of the Call theme goes, "Standing Waves in Motion" really just tried to match the drama/adventure implied by the theme itself.

For "Wandering, Wavering", I felt that the tension between synth sounds and the piano suited the Refusal of the Call theme. To me, the piano is oscillating between what it wants to do and what the synth parts are asking it to do; trying to refuse their call, in a sense.

What genre is your soundtrack?
Orchestral

How did you incorporate a canon into your hypothetical soundtrack?
"Standing Waves in Motion" baiscally has an AABAA structure, with a simple canon in each second iteration of the A part. The first A section introduces a 16 bar phrase played primarily by woodwinds, which acts as a dux in each second A section for a comes played by the horn section. You may hear a sour-ish note or two in the horn parts because of this, but I prefer to just think of them as 'jazzy'.

---------------------------------------------

"Wandering, Wavering" has both a tempo canon and a simple canon (shown in the DAW screenshot in light blue). All melodic parts literally consist of a single pattern of 16 notes (shown in the uploaded image) played using note durations that are half/double the length of each other. I would call these 16 notes the theme, I guess.

This tempo canon is introduced in the first 8 bars of the piano part after the brief intro. As the piece goes on, the right hand piano begins to borrow more and more notes from a shorter-duration version of the theme. It was fun seeing how playing with the instrumentation texture kept a fairly simple theme fairly fresh to the ear.

The simple canon begins after the drum machine comes in. The theme is played once in full by the dux alone, and is then followed by two comes, one after the other. The second comes is played an octave up.

Anything else you'd like to add?
Two men are on a boat with three cigarettes and neither a lighter nor any matches. How do they smoke?

The slow methodical nature of Standing Waves in Motion creates a total vibe. The clave rhythm interrupted that a bit for me, but overall I like it.

But I love Wandering Wavering! It has this great tension where it's a bit dark and methodical in the lower/slower voices, then fun and active as the higher voices come in, all working together and sounding coherent. The way you varied things made me never get tired of it. All the layers feel awesome together and it's just really tasty.
