How does your game meet GBJam's theme?
The black cat enters the Lucky World, a place where “Unlucky Symbols” are unwelcome. Battle the lucky symbols and climb your way to the top.

Every two rooms, you’ll encounter a “Dice Room,” where the mischievous “Pair-a-Dice” rolls the dice, inflicting a random misfortune for the next few rounds. Your goal is to survive as many levels as possible.

THE HANDS

Wow, those hands are mean :-D. But the game has a lot of potential, and I really loved the map you see when it’s game over.

Developer

Thanks! Yes, quite a few people said about the hand being OP, I should've balanced it better, haha. But I'm happy that you liked the concept.

The hands are pretty OP, I wish they attacked a bit more slowly or something.

The room mechanic is very cool, but it accentuates a problem that the game has: since the enemies are reasonably tough and there aren't many chokepoints you're encouraged to run past them. If the dice have limited to six shots for an entire set of rooms it just further encourages that playstyle. These games can be notoriously hard to gate and nail the level design of, and this is a mistake I've made many times. Even in my latest entry I had to aggressively playtest it out of the game (to yet to be judged degrees of success).

There's an idea here, and the core top-down gameplay is solid.

Thanks! Will playtest a little more and try to balance it better for the next jams. Time was short, but playtests are important for sure.

the dice guy is awesome - great enemy sprites as well, very on theme

Developer

Thank you! Really liked him as well.

I thought this entry was cute and had some charm to it (see what I did there?). I think some knockback on the hands would have been nice, because I kept getting beamed while shooting. I'll chalk that up to a skill issue on my end though.

I enjoyed the graphics for what they were but also thing there is room to expand. I love the concept of "lucky" symbols vs. "unlucky" symbols so I think that could be expanded even further. Good job!

Thanks! What I wanted to do with more time was add more enemies, I had a few more ideias for some enemies that fit the theme. Also wanted to add a merchant who you can buy items from, but time was sadly not enough.
