I've played both versions. You've made some good improvements to the post jam version. However I still get confused about the mandates, I think because you just get used to a new day and the new rules and then it ends and then you have the next day and a bunch of new rules so your brain never gets enough time just to rest a little with one scenario. Also I find that the instructions for the first day are not clear as to what you are supposed to do about the third brother. I did appreciate, however, that you could read the current day's fax at any time.

I didn't like the South Africanness of it because it's only used in the dialogue; there's nothing else about the game that is in any way South African, so to me it doesn't feel as if it fits. However I recognise that this is a personal preference and others may feel differently.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed this very much and I really liked the art.

Thanks so much for playing both versions and for the thoughtful feedback! Part of the challenge I was aiming for is tied to remembering the mandates as you go, but I think you’re right that the core of them could be emphasized more clearly. I’ll definitely explore that for the next update. Really glad the art and overall experience still came through for you!

One thing I would do is make each day a bit longer (more goats that meet and don't meeting the requirements) and randomise the goats (except for the first day, of course). Still fun though as is.

Developer(+1)

Hi Mandy - Stellar suggestion! Randomizing the goats (beyond day one) would add replayability, and the underlying code structure for the goats and level sequences is already set up in a way that makes it straightforward to implement. Definitely going right to the top of my list for the next update. Thanks again for the feedback!

Oh this ones a lot like Papers Please with a cool twist on it.

I like the layers of hints being from their silhouettes to what they can say, the art and sounds are lovely too.

If I were to offer some feedback, it's hard to tell which mandates are currently in effect, or if previous ones still are.

Would be nice be able to view "active mandates" before a day starts, because it can be hard to remember everything.

Developer

Thanks so much for the thoughtful feedback! Really glad you enjoyed the art, sound, and the gameplay twist. 😊 We’ve updated the post-jam version to make it much clearer which mandates are active during a run, so that part should feel a lot smoother now. Super grateful for your comments!

Cute decision making game. The art style is simple but works. Wish there was some sound for me.

I like the humor.

Developer

Thanks for giving it a go! Glad the humor landed.

We played it. Here's our live feedback. YouTube (with timestamp)

Thanks so much for playing and putting together a video - that really means a lot! I’m glad you had fun with it. And your shot at the South African accent honestly cracked me up XD

This is such a fun take on the theme, I really enjoyed the game play and love the animation and art! something that  might be helpful is just highlighting the key words in the notes or have an option for this as the text is already a bit difficult to read and I found myself needing to re-read the mandates over a few times over (adhd brain), I really enjoyed the game over all though will definitely go back and play again 10/10!

Developer

Thanks so much, Kaycee! Noted your ideas for V1.2—maybe there’s a clever way to hint at those keywords without actually highlighting them. Really appreciate such encouraging feedback from a fellow dev!

Nice! I generally share the same sentiment as the other comments. Good work with the sound and art

Thank you!

Great atmosphere and overall presentation. The art and animation are great, and the vocalisations for the troll and goats added a nice flair.

The gameplay felt pleasingly Papers Please with a cool twist. I liked the difference of seeing the silhouette versus a full picture, and that the things they say can be part of the clues as well; led to some interesting things to consider while I was processing goats.

One thing that bothered me a bit was the continuity between days. It felt like it was a bit inconsistent -- i.e. I was never sure what parts carried over and what parts didn't. I assumed they all compounded, but it didn't seem to be the case? At least not always. If they did, it was a bit of an issue that I couldn't look at the previous mandates, so I just had to remember everything, which is a bit much for my aging memory. It also wasn't clear if the default response is to eat or pass. I.e. if a goat doesn't match any of eat or pass mandates, should I pass it or eat it? My last meal and subsequent dismissal implies the former, but the concept of being a troll implies the latter. Perhaps something to consider?

Like others have mentioned, the delay between goats was just a tad too long, but nothing experience ruining or anything.

I assume the moon and the money(?) in the top right are things I just didn't get to? (I was fired for gross incompetence.)

Also, I'm not sure how I feel about the timer when you look at the goats. (Not that time was ever a big issue; I'm just speaking in principle here.) Obviously, there has to be some pressure for you to ever make mistakes, but I think I prefer the aggregated timer style of Papers Please, where you could make up for long checks with future short ones. But that might just be my personal taste.

Thanks so much for the thoughtful feedback! Really glad you enjoyed the atmosphere and presentation, and you raise some excellent points about continuity and clarity - I’ll definitely keep those in mind for improvements. Appreciate you taking the time to dig into it!

Really enjoyed playing this, love the artstyle and effort put into this, quite a bit of comedic effects, love the effects like the troll eating goat animation.

Developer

Thanks! And yes, the troll-eat-goat animation was one of my last little feats—drew it with a shaky hand just an hour or so before the deadline XD

I really enjoyed this game! I love how you included the bridge visibility, dialogue, and inspection mechanic as things to consider. I did think that the previous mandates carried over, making their effects compound and become more tricky for the Player to remember.

I do think I got stuck between Day 5 and 6 where goats just didn't spawn. I think having the goats process and appear quicker could make it more worthwhile replaying.

Overall, well executed premise with a lot of very South African humour which I enjoyed! Well done!

Thank you so much for playing and for your kind words! I completely agree about the speed, and I also noticed that bug—unfortunately only after uploading—but that’s okay. Every hiccup is a chance to learn and improve. I’m really glad you enjoyed it!

Really fantastic on the animation and art and general feel of the game. Felt the game couldve been a little faster but awesome job.

Developer

Thank you so much! I really appreciate the feedback. I agree about the speed - definitely something I’ll keep in mind for future updates or projects. Glad to hear you dig the animation and overall feel!

Dude! What a great game!

Top notch animation and art and some really funny bits as well.

I played this one for much longer than I should have!

Awesome!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Coming from the Kraken master of whistling chaos, that means a lot. Glad the funny bits and animations held up.
