Game Description
In Gluttony's Throne, you are trapped in the lair of the evil Goblin King, forced to cook dishes to satisfy his endless hunger. Match his cravings and watch as his greed swells until it finally bursts.

How does your game tie into the theme?
The Goblin King literally expands as you feed him more and more (weird digestive issues when it comes to human food) until he can't take it anymore.

Gotta say, biggest garlic I've ever seen. And one pretty small onion. Very easy to mix up when they're like that. Other than that, the concept is nothing short of satisfying and the execution is great, if a bit hectic, and mildly frustrating when the order is ready but still lose on the delivery.

Also the kobold is cute.

Yeah, I was surprised no one else commented on the garlic and onion. Pissed me off real bad during my test runs but I kept pushing back changing the sprites until there was no time left D: Also she was meant to be a dragon but kobold honestly fits so much better LOL. Thank you for playing!!

Either way, she's adorable and she should be aware she is appreciated.

Quite fun, I learnt some of the recipes by heart and felt quite good about cooking them from memory. The art was nice and the game felt challenging and kept me on my toes. I lost! :D

Developer

Haha, you're better than me, I honestly think I only memorized like two of the recipes myself LOL. No shame in losing, it uhh... took me quite a few attempts to beat it myself (and I made it so).. Regardless, thank you for playing!! :D

I really like how crisp the pixel art is! Also found the game quite enjoyable though towards the end the difficulty ramped up quite a bit for me so I wasn't able to complete all 12 rounds in my attempts :( I'll have to try again with a mouse sometime to see if I do better than trackpad. Wish I coulda gotten to the ending myself, but I like the concept of the king just expanding and facing consequence for their greed hehe. Great job with this!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I was quite proud of the pixel art hehe. Honestly, I think playing with trackpad makes the game 2x harder so ... whatever stage you got to, multiply it by two :) Thank you sm for playing!!!

This was a really fun and well-made jam entry! The game is chill and enjoyable at the start, with the pace slowly ramping up until things get frantic later on. The concept of the goblin king constantly demanding food is both funny and engaging, and it ties nicely into the jam’s theme of expansion (especially when you start noticing the king himself growing).

What I enjoyed:

  • The music is calming yet fits perfectly, helping balance the panic of later stages.
  • The art and animations are great — I especially loved the animation of the food being delivered.
  • The recipe book, remembering the correct page, was a thoughtful touch and avoided unnecessary frustration.
  • Replayability is solid; it’s the kind of game you can hop back into for a casual run.
  • The ending was hilarious and satisfying (boom!).

Areas for improvement (if expanded post-jam):

  • The arrows showing the path from the throne room to the kitchen weren’t totally clear at first, though the animated “!” marker helped a lot once noticed.
  • The delivery system felt a little clunky, needing to press two buttons while the timer kept running, tripped me up a few times. Making it a one-button action (or pausing the timer after the first press) might smooth that out.
  • Later rounds rely heavily on RNG difficulty. Easy dishes can be beaten with time to spare, while more complex ones feel almost impossible as the clock shortens. Balancing that out would improve fairness.
  • Additional sound effects/feedback would be great (like bubbling noises, error sounds, or even a funny pot “face” when you get something wrong).

Overall:

This was a well-executed and enjoyable jam game. It looks and sounds great, plays smoothly, and nails the theme. With a few quality-of-life tweaks and more polish, I could definitely see this concept expanding into something people would keep coming back to. Awesome work!

Developer

Thank you so much!! This was a very well thought out and thorough review, I appreciate you taking the time to write this sm. If I ever choose to expand on the game, this'll be the first comment I turn to haha. Greggifer thanks you as well :P

Playing this game puts you in a good mood. Very chill. The visuals are great!

If you're looking for feedback, I think I haven't heard enough sound effects when cooking or grabbing ingredients. But hey... for a limited time this is very good :)

Developer

Yeeees I totally agree, the sound effects were definitely something I could have worked on! Def going to prioritize sound design in future projects as I did kinda notice it was a bit lacking in this one. Thank you so much for the feedback and thanks for playing!

Well done, I wasn't able to complete the game (the king is very hungry... and impatient!) but enjoyed it nonetheless.

I guess he's got an expanding stomach?

Developer

Yes he's a bit of a pain LOL but I guess that's part of what makes him the evil goblin king... It might not be super obvious since you're not supposed to be on the king screen for long but I made it so that his sprite gets a little bigger every few rounds (so that's where the expansion part comes in haha) but that works too! Thanks so much for playing :)
