After the dialogue nothing happened

Developer

You do need to set up your own controls to actually play.

Submitted

managed to run it, fell into the void, respawned, i was alone.

Developer

Not sure what happened in this case, there should have been plenty places you could go to.

Submitted

I was sadly unable to play it 😭

Developer (1 edit)

Thats fair, it does require quite a bit of setting up before before you can actually play.

Submitted

Alright, I really tried but I'm not sure I understand it. After setting the controls, I can enter the grey tear, move around and talk to a couple of people and then I run out of places to go and get stuck into the black void from the start but I can't interact with the tear again. Can't seem to get to the ending choice unfortunately. It might have needed a little more guidance but good job!

Developer

So the path is certainly not always obvious, and couple of them are hidden away but in most you should still be able to find a lot of them. One suggestion i do have for exploration would be to just pick a direction and go. When you walk in the Black stuff, the counter for your changing only happens when you change directions. So you could probably make it quite a bit with just that. Nearly each static camera has their own dialogue scene.

As for getting stuck at the start, that happens when you run out of playable memory scenes due to them being forgotten. There would still be a dialogue scene there if you wait a bit.

But yeah Thanks for playing.

It took a while to get this game to run, but I did it eventually because I was so intrigued by the story! I had a lot of fun playing and I really liked the tone!

Developer

Glad you liked it.

I...think I beat the game?

I swear I've searched everywhere and this was the only encounter I got.

Read in another comment that there's 30!?

I'm super confused, have no idea what the story is even about, but regardless I blame him!! 🫵🏽😂

The story kept wanting me to blame myself, and the player character already seemed depressed enough, so that ain't happening 😅🫠

Great atmosphere and art tho! 🫶🏽💝

Developer(+1)

Congratulations Yes you did. I am not sure why that was the only encounter you had though, unless somehow all the memories that were close just got forgotten, which is probably possible i guess.

Considering you did blame him, I would recommend checking out this one memory though. You can find that one at basically the beginning of the game. After you get in that portal and reach the first scene just go full left from there. You should reach it.

Good luck and thanks for playing.

Oh yeah! I didn't count the first encounter after the portal.
After I found her I retraced my steps back to the start and went FULL left and still found nothing.
Glad I reached the end tho!!

Again, wonderful game and overall vibes!!

This game is giving a lot of Undertale!

To me, the "pals" in this game try to get the player out of depression (or anxiety). The dialogue represents the inner conflict of the player character with regards to the dialogue/advice they are being given.

Kudos on finishing the game! Getting something out there in this short time frame is super tough, and I'm glad the game seemed to function correctly for me! Is it right to assume the "You are forgetting these memories..." part the last bit?

(After starting the story, I pressed ESC to go to the menu and remapped controls to arrow keys + right shift, that seemed to work. Sometimes you gotta use Enter to progress).

Developer(+1)

its great that you were able to actually play it.

As for the story itself, at its core its just the Protagonist remembering talking to their friend. i am not sure how much progress you actually made but there are around 30 memories. Some of them are hidden away and can only be found through a bit of exploration. If you do feel like you cant find anymore then try walking into the void a few times, you would reach the End of the game where you would be allowed to make a choice.

Thanks again for playing though.

Oh I couldn't do all the memories then! At some point the game brought me back to the very first level (with the grey tear at the top of the screen). Then I started dying after walking a few steps, and respawning right at the tear. (I could walk off-screen but the camera would not follow the character).

Developer(+1)

Actually that is the End, you reach there when there are no more memories for you to see which can be either because you saw them normally or they got forgotten. if you do stay in the End scene for a bit the final dialogue should trigger.

Or the game broke down right at the End. Not sure.

But either way you more or less finished the Game. You are probably the first person to do that, so thank you again.

I got this working by starting a new game, going through the initial dialog, then pressing Escape to go to options, then navigating with the arrow keys to controls, pressing Enter, and then clicking the invisible entries on the right to setup keybindings.

Developer

Thanks Man I am glad that at least someone was able to make it work.

Managed to set my controls in the settings but after the intro dialogue, still couldn’t move, sadly. But now I’ve been teased I wanna see what it was about! Thumbs up for submitting either way!

Developer

yeaa apparently doing that at the start doesnt work you have to click new game first and then escape where you can set up the controls. it works then, also just for your own sanity i would recommend tuning down the music to because god it doesnt work as its supposed to.

Submitted

I could not play it unfortunately :(

Submitted

Good job getting it submitted lots of people didnt even get that far, but it wont left me setup the controls so i unfortunately cant play it. good luck in your next jam!

It do be like this sometimes...

I am staring at a static screen with a little man in the bottom surrounded by the void. Maybe the author is trying to send out a philosophical message.

Developer

As funny as that message would have been it's not that. In case you randomly feel like giving it another shot, you just need to set up your own controls in the options menu.
