Theme

Ghool (Fish Team)

Correlation to theme
The song is fast paced and electric with spooky feeling chords.
Ghool looks like an electric ghost type Pokémon so my instruments were all synths to represent that cool electric feeling.
I used a lot of out of key notes at parts to make it sound spookier and more ghostly while maintaining its fun energy because he's just so cool! As such I though high energy fit him.
It's something I like to think he would listen to with those headphones.

I did the challenge of the Stair so the song starts with a good sized 4/4 section, then a short 5/4 bridge, before ending with a long 6/4 section.
The last part of the 6/4 section mirrors the very first melody line in terms of notes played but they are adapted to a 6/4 time giving them a different feeling.

Last words
Speed is just how I work. Whether it's with the songs themselves or how fast I make them. Sometimes I can make a song in 2 hours and that's just how I work.
You can just call me the fastest fish in the sea as a team fish truther.

So bouncy and fun, I love how you captured both the energy of an electric type with the spooky-ness of a ghost type, really cool way of interpreting and depicting Ghool! I did feel more electric type energy than ghost type energy though, maybe something like a theremin would've been a nice way to get more ghost-y vibes. Also, I'm surprised nobody mentioned this, but your title is just sooo good, it works on so many levels haha. Great job!

Developer(+1)

I totally should have used a theremin you're right!

I was really proud of the title too I'm glad you liked it!

The 4/4 theme is awesome, really. It has a Megalovania from Undertale vibe without plagiarizing it.

Melodically, both 4/4 themes are excellent.

However, since I like you and think you're capable of doing incredible things even in a short amount of time, I'm going to take the liberty of criticizing the 6/4 part: the melody doesn't breathe enough. The rhythm is too similar in each measure. In 4/4, you do three measures with the same structure, and the fourth gives it some breathing room and restarts the loop. Surprisingly, you didn't do that in 6/4. I feel like the melody is more intellectual and that you tried to fill up the 6/4. Am I wrong?

Otherwise, the 5/4 in transition mode is great, the tempo halved works very well.

And your transition sounds are used more sparingly.

Despite my criticism, believe me, I really like it and I'm impressed by the quality you've achieved in such a short time. It's a real talent!

Developer

thank you!

With the 6/4 section, I wanted to call back to the 4/4 melody by having a part that had the same melodic idea but In 6/4 which may have been what caused it to lose its breathing room since I was trying to “fill in” the 6/4 if that makes sense. I will say I am inexperienced with Time signature changes and I probably should have taken more care into making each section the best it could be.

I like the idea of an 'electric' feeling, and the synths also feel a bit ghostly to me as well. It has a nice beat to it, which sounds cool, just like him ;). The 5/4 and 6/4 sections were quite decent to follow too. I'd say "quality" is your strongest suit in all of the songs you've made for this jam: they all just sound nice! I do agree with kirik_9 below that it feels more like a battle or even an environmental song. As usual, nice entry man :D

Sounds really cool and energetic, though to be honest it reminds me more of a battle theme haha.

Thanks!
I just like to write fast songs, and I thought fast music fit the character

Really fun, You may just be the first person I've ever seen to program drums the way you do

Developer

I’m curious what you mean? Like because I have the drums in different lines? I’m not very used to using drum loops so I just make my own since it’s what I know.

Submitted(+1)

The way you have your snare, kicks and cymbals all seperated as different patterns.

Developer

yeah I mostly do that because I have them on different mixing channels so it feels easier to keep track of

The first part of the song just screams megalovania so it feels derivative, but I really liked the second part! Personally I'd just discard the first part and make the focus of the song the solo and the melodies introduced after the time changes. Overall it's a good entry so nice work!

Developer(+1)

I actually didn’t intend for it to sound like megalovania lol. I took inspiration from one of my songs I made for OST Jam 8 which itself was inspired by a song from Mad Rat Dead. But I understand the comparison since the baseline follows a similar chromatic descending thing.

Submitted(+1)

ooh i understand, it's kinda hard to go with that chord progression and not to think about megalovania so i don't blame you

Submitted(+1)

Interpreting the character as a Pokemon is incredibly creative. The melody is VERY catchy and I was groovin the whole time. Nice work!

Developer

Thank you!

Great work! Definetely captures the Pokemon-esque feeling you were aiming for.I really liked the 5/4 portion of the song.

Developer

Thank you!

The 5/4 part was the hardest to write since I’m really bad at writing in 5/4

Nice high energy track fitting for an electrified ghost! I’m curious if you used Megalovania for inspiration? I think the 5/4 section is my favorite part because rather than doing a simple 3+2 (which is what I always fall into when I try to write 5/4), you keep it varied and keep the momentum moving forward with a feeling that comes out as sounding glitchy (in a good way) like Ghool is a ghost that haunts circuit boards or something like that. Nice work once again! Thank you for sharing!

Developer

I didn’t take inspiration from megalovania actually but I do hear it. I mostly took inspiration from my OST jam 8 song today is NOT a good day.

The 5/4 time I knew that I should either do 2+3 or vice versa but I’m just really bad at writing in 5/4 so it was just like a mixture I think.
