Sweet story with a great art. Fishing adds nice pauses to reflect on the dialogue. I like the POV of raising Morgan, where you’re trying to be helpful and just a good parent. Well done!
Thanks! We wanted the fishing pauses to integrate with game mechanics where you unlock more options--however we didn't have the capacity to integrate it as we liked since half our team got sick halfway through. I think it speaks to the quality of our team and the collaboration that we pulled together such an excellent project regardless. Really wonderful people all around.
As others have said, nice art. I especially liked the little UI touches like the character avatars and text box border.
The fishing minigame was fun for a while but a button to leave it would have been great.
The dialogue choices were a bit confusing to me - they didn't flow as well as the main text.
Looks like you used the Monogatari engine? I hadn't heard of it before - looks cool!
Thank you our team did a lot in a short time, especially considering we all got sick halfway through the jam (lol). A button to leave the fishing is a great quality of life integration--I'll let our programming team know! We've discussed working on the project after the fact.
I've touched base with our team and the reason why there isn'ta leave-fishing exit button is because we ahd planned on integrating the fishing into the visual novel mechanics so that the fishing unlocks another dialogue option. We hope to integrate that into the game later.
Congrats on the team’s first game! The interactions between the parents and Morgan were sweet. I also really locked in to catch those fish lol I liked the character art a lot - if there was a version of the fishing screen that incorporated Morgan and the dad in the background, I think that would make the game look really cohesive! If you guys update the game, I look forward to playing it again!
Thank you! We really appreciate the suggestion for the fishing screen. We are going to reconnect on game changes after the voting ends and see what we have capacity to integrate. There has been a lot of really great feedback so far. I hope that you continue to enjoy the game, and thank you so much for playing!
Great art and music! The fishing minigame felt a bit too twitchy for me, the green bar maybe dropped a little too fast when releasing the mouse. Really well executed and cool story!
Thanks! Our artist and musician are really great. We appreciate your feedback on the game components. We learned a lot while making this!
The art looks so nice and cohesive! I think it was the PERFECT medium for the story! I felt the dialogue was very real and the characters well made and engaging. It spurred up memories of mine that I forgot I had. The bouncy fishing game was harder than most other similar fishing games I've played! I feel like if the player was able to decide when to stop fishing and having that affect the story would be a nice touch for maybe a future implementation!
Hi! Thank you so much for your feedback. Our artist is really great, yeah, and they did a wonderful job! We had some fun mechanics we came up with for if the player could stop fishing when they wanted but we didn't have the skill for that, unfortunately.
Art speaks for itself here, amazing work. I like the "learning through dialogue" feel, where it's like I'm learning about how to handle IRL situations alongside Morgan haha. Fishing was a bit tedious at first but got the hang of it later.
Game cover is clean and really captures depth very well. Really nice job!
Thank you our team is full of hard carries! We have some ideas for level design to make the fishing a bit more intriguing! Just how with time and experience in fishing you learn along side Morgan. Thank you for playing, genuinely!
Loved the art and story! I did struggle with the fishing game initially, but got the hang of it eventually.
We have some ideas for level design to make things bit easier and more intriguing! The artist and writer will be hyped to hear this for sure
Hey there! First of all, I love that cover art! That said, really enjoyed the atmospheric vibe of the game - amazing visuals, immersive sounds and nice background music just tied it all up together really well. So, congrats, especially since you mentioned on your page this is your first game!
The fishing mechanic got a good laugh out of me cause of how comically hard I struggled with it haha
Also, I thought I had run into a bug until I read some of the other comments here saying how that's actually the end of the story, so it might be worth considering mentioning that on the game page temporarily.
Anyway, once again, I had a fun time reading through your story, so, well done!
Awesome the game had that effect on you! Fishing is a mechanic beloved by all. Thank for sharing. We will take your advice and put that on our page sometime!
Sweet story. I don't relate because my father hated video games 😆. Joking aside, good job tying all the elements together.
The writer will be happy to hear that! We put in a lot of effort thank you for noticing!
You clearly put a lot of love into this game, well done!! Very beautiful and memorable
Thank you for playing! We sure did put a lotta love thank you for noticing!
Can't go wrong with a fishing minigame! I like the catch that you're actually the parent here, not the healthy gamer themself, and you're trying to do your best to raise them well, dealing with the struggle of trying to be a good parent
Thank you, Thank you! Yeah it is quite the catch! (Punny) Every game must have a fishing mechanic!
Really pretty game, loved the art, story, and fishing gameplay. Fun vibes even if I hit a couple small dialogue hiccups
Thank you for playing! We worked on it with our heart and soul and we are glad you noticed! We will make sure the hiccups begone!
Fishing is a great mechanic and every game needs a fishing mechanic >_> I really liked the character and the title screen art!
I see you are based as well. Fishing is the way to go! Thank you I’m sure the artists would love to hear that!
Love the idea of using stuff from Dr K's book in a game, the title art is amazing too
Shoutout to our project manager Fruity for having the book on hand!
Very beautiful game.
Fishing mechanics is on point!! Very cool story.
Thank you for playing! The mechanics being on point compliment coming from one of the programmers from Morgan and the Dungeons that especially means a lot!
Cool game!
Thank you very much for playing!
"Do you think that's George?" Some say the unknown person knocks at the door to this very day.
That was a good read. I'm not entirely sure why some of the choices were darker than others. I was still able to click them. At first I figured it was like a Depression Quest mechanic where you can't do certain things in your current state, but I tried clicking on one later on and it just let me do it.
Anyway, cool project. I want to see how this develops.
It is like depression quest mechanic! Thank you for the feedback we will work on making them unclickable! Also yes lmao we should have had an end card! George can’t keep knocking forever!
Gorgeous presentation on the dialog, finding it hard to keep up with the fish on a mac mouse
Understood! We have some ideas for level design for that!
Love the story and the art style! Though my dialogue wouldn't move after Dad says "Do you think that's George?" even when I reloaded and tried auto play. I would absolutely read more of the story if I could! ^^
Thank you so much for playing. I’m glad that you enjoyed it! That’s the end of the story—we didn’t make an end card. We’ll probably add credits of some kind and expand the game a bit after judging ends. This was our first video game so we learned a lot while making it. We really appreciate your feedback!
Nice story, simple mechanics! Fits the theme!
Appreciate it! Thank you!
