I love Halloween, and that color palette with white outline around the cat, characters, backgrounds, etc are amazing to look at!! Very good UI, but I wish it was WASD (not arrows) and mouse-click instead of Z. So far I found the batteries, but not other items. The fights seem a bit repetitive, as I wanted to level up and fight / kill faster to move on to next items / objectives. Please develop this game into a full version! :D

Great visuals and mood, cutesy characters and story.  Really dig the color palette.

The fights in the tower could be improved. They trigger completely randomly so you can finish one fight and half a second later you're in another and mechanics of the fights is a bit simplistic. I'd think about putting actual enemies on the map, blocking the doors perhaps.

All in all, very good game. Improve the fights and it will be golden.

I had been looking forward to playing this game throughout the entire jam! However, I didn't get very far since I couldn't figure out the button on my PC for picking up items to deliver to the villagers. Maybe someday I could figure out the controls and play it again

The visuals are very well done, you really captured the feel of this being an actual Gameboy game you could find in stores! However, I wish there were more things to click on. Maybe it's just me being unable to figure out the controls, but I wish that signs could be interactable like characters are and some flavor text could appear or something. Maybe this is there and I couldn't figure out how to do it, but I'm unsure

The music is pretty good, but it gets repetitive after a while, not that I mind though 'cause it'll probably be stuck in my head!

Overall, this is a very interesting game, but I wish more could be done with it. Maybe add a tutorial or controls on the itch page?

I like the graphics, the outdoor locations, the characters, and the story concept. The music is nice too.

I didn't really enjoy the battles. They felt very repetitious. As far as I played, the strategy is simple and never changes (choose to heal if health is low enough to die from a critical hit, otherwise choose to attack). Missing in battle felt like it was adding time without adding any strategic complexity--I just do the same strategy again after missing. I probably wouldn't mind the easy, unchanging strategy that much if there were fewer battles, but the encounter rate seemed very high--often I'd get two or three in a row without being able to move, then manage take only one step before getting in another battle. As much as I like the art for the cat, rat, and bat, I think maybe having 10%-25% of the current encounter rate would be a major improvement in the experience. (Adding a bit more decoration to the rooms (or just having fewer rooms to go through) would also help a bit, I think--going through a bunch of empty rooms kinda makes things worse.)

I also encountered a couple bugs while playing: After I picked up the Saltpeter, then got in a battle, the Saltpeter reappeared. I didn't go back to pick it up again, because I didn't want to fight another 2-3 battles before exiting the room. After I went back to the witch, she said the "thank you" dialog, then the "missing ingredient" dialog again. I tried talking to her again, and she just repeated both dialogs again.

Ultimately I stopped playing because I didn't want to spend more time on the battles. I still kinda want to help the characters, and I'm curious to see what their objects and resolutions are, but the idea of going through several dozen more battles to do that is rough.

I played this before acknowledging that GBJam was still in voting, so I'll try to make sure to play again in a few days once you've had a change to do some more updates.

You did a good job giving the game that classic Gameboy feel.  The look and sound were well done, and I particularly enjoyed your box art.  Your color palette fit your game well, and the cat animation was cute.

The encounter rate was insanely high.  There were several times where one combat would end and another would start before I had the chance to move.  At one point I had four back-to-back fights, which combined with the number of times I missed took away a lot of the fun.  High encounter rates can sometimes work, but being unable to move between fights left me feeling like I wasn't achieving anything.

Talking to the witch after giving her her item gave me her thank you comments and then her asking for help dialog.  When I returned to the tower, I couldn't go up to the next floor.   I picked up the batteries and talked to the first person again, and when I returned to the witch she only said her asking for help text.  I went back to the tower after that, but was still unable to go up to the next floor.

In the room with the batteries, when I had a fight after picking them up they reappeared and I could pick them up again.  Thankfully I only needed to pick them up once, so I didn't have to hope I got out of the room without a fight, but without an inventory screen to double check made me wonder whether I had them or not when they reappeared.

I think this has potential, but needs a bit more work to really make it fun.
