I underestimated this.

The game I was working on for this jam was also the first one I've ever tried making and I thought it would be relatively easy because I just wanted to make a simple game like those short 15 minute flash experiences. I did have experience with writing code and writing stories and even to some extent graphic design but, I did not realize how difficult making art and music for games in a time crunch was.

I still want to share this game with people once I'm done because this has been an exhilarating learning experience, I mean I haven't had this much fun in ages, so I was wondering what people normally do when they aren't able to finish their games in jams like these.

It was an honor to be humbled by this and whenever a game jam happens next I'll make sure to treat it with the respect it deserves and finish on time and not participate unless I know I'll be able to make time for it.

For jamscepticeye, I'm out. I hope everyone had a great time, I'm going to bed now 馃.

omg i did the same,, two days of the jam were spent just staring blank at my blanker screen ;-;

i made it like an hour before the deadline and my game is far off from where i wanted it!! but im exhilarated even though i have lost soo much sleep,, i had no idea a game jam would be so hectic!!! it is time for a well earned coma!!!!!

Congratulations,  I hope you sleep like a log, I got woken up by someone at the door but the replies are so nice I'm not even mad about it.

Same here - I wish I had more time to polish off some pieces but I tried rationalizing that all of us did a lot for a 5 day jam and I think everyone should be proud.

This was fun but it's also time to go tf to sleep.

Cheers!

Same here. I've made a few games but never participated in a game jam (let alone creating a whole game solo) and sadly my game is in a state a little too unplayable to be able to submit. I'll probably finish it and release it in a few days, but it's still disappointing. I spent way too much time trying to build the level, haha. I wish there were someplace for those of us who bit off a little more than we could chew to share our games with each other, even if they couldn't be judged.

I still have no idea how I'm gonna record half the SFX I wanna add and I think now that we've already crossed the deadlines, we might as well squeeze in some extra thought for stuff like that.

I feel that, also, that's a good way to think of it. On the bright side we get to polish up our games a bit more. I've never worked on a horror game before so it'll be nice to have more time to improve the scariness level of mine. I'd love to check yours out when it's done! :)

Wow, I guess I wasn't the only one o_o

Amen to that! I managed to get it done (kind of) but I HUGELY underestimated how long it would take. Silver lining though, I've learnt what to do next time (and more importantly, what not to do)

Either way, whatever we've ended up with, it's more than we would have had if we hadn't given it a shot!

In the words of a wise  man, "DO IT, JUSt DO IT, don't let your dreams be dreams, yesterday you said tomorrow so jUST DO IT, MAKE YOUR dreams come True, JUST ... DO IT. . ." I don't remember the rest of the speech man.

I get this 100%. I'm a somewhat seasoned dev (several published projects, countless unfinished/unreleased projects) and the experience I had making my submission in time did a number on me. After I uploaded my project, I felt like I woke up from a hellish, drug-induced fever dream. I'll try to check out your project after you release it!

Scope creep is a real devil. It's so easy to get lost in conceptualizing, even more so if passion starts taking over. But you learn so much from it! I love the mentality you took here, choosing not to rush but instead finish things properly. I feel like that's the way to go with things like this.

To all of you: Don't be sad it is okay to "fail" the main thing about a Jam is to learn about concepts, Timemanagement and something about yourself + the fun it should bring you fun and so :) so heads Up and prepare for the next one with the learnings of this one ;)

We salute you, there is no shame in quitting. The amount of work is why I rarely do gamesjams anymore (adult life sucks).
