Wowwww that was awesome!!! Combat and spellcasting felt so visceral and you were right about the haptic feedback making it feel extra juicy. I loved the way the fireball had a acceleration kick to it, you could feel the impact. The time stop and dash also felt super powerful. Movement felt really good overall, maybe wall slide felt a little tricky and you'll see a few parts I got clipped into a wall for a moment (was able to get out with dash eventually). One other visual suggestion cus this kaizo'd me the first time 😂
Great job this is suppper polished and a great assortment of level designs. Interesting, satisfying, and challenging. And a very impressive variety in such a short amount of time. Spikes, multiple monsters, dash-platform challenges, wall jump segments, secret reward areas... it had it all! The maze at the end where I died was really intense. I think one thing that would make this instantly 100x better, at least for level 1, is create abundant checkpoints because it was quite a lot to get sent back to a full reset. I wanted to keep progressing!!! but I felt unsure I would get as far as I did again, so I stopped the video there. I do love platformers and this was a lot of fun but I'm not a kaizo player haha. Amazing work!!!! Can't wait to see where you take this
Thanks Ecaroh! Especially for recording and submitting gameplay, that is super helpful and interesting to see. You displayed some great Wizard Ninja skills straight out the gate, but yes still plenty more secrets to be found in that level 😉
I’m in the process of designing a tutorial level to better demonstrate your abilities (e.g no one knows to use Gust (R1 + X on Xbox controller) and explain to them how all powers are limitless but for pink magic that requires spell charges from magic blocks, because most only use Time slow for door puzzles but can be very useful against fast enemies too!
Full game will feature checkpoints, but as a standalone game jam entry, I wanted it to be retro and old school challenging, requiring multiple retries to prevent people completing it in under 5 minutes.
Thanks again for playing and for creating Alchemy Jam, for Wicked Boy would not exist with out it
Right off the bat got hit by an error that popped up and required me to abort the game:

After a restart and another try, I was back in business. The visuals and audio here are fantastic. Really polished and beautiful. I found the action to be a little too fast for me, and the lack of checkpoints made it difficult for me to sustain any progress. That said, I think you've got some really fun gameplay mechanics here; I'm grateful for the videos you've shared so that I could have a sense of what those were before starting. With a gentler difficulty ramp and some timing changes, I think you've got something really special here to build on top of. Thanks for making and sharing your game!
First off, its an honor for a developer of your caliber to try my humble game, thank you for taking the time!
I have addressed that error, a small oversight that occurred whenever trying to use Spell Blast in the title screen.
It is indeed fast paced! A conscious decision, that with mastery, can result in some very impressive action. But for this level, I do understand that beginners may struggle. Though I can end the game level with 20 hearts, I also realize I have played it hundreds of times and am the creator haha. In the full game, this will be level 2, with a kinder tutorial level preceding it to ease players in to the mechanics.
If you ever felt the desire to return to Wicked Boy, make sure you download the latest build (updated almost daily) and know that you can spam your Time slow ability endlessly! Can help give you a lot of breathing room when facing enemies or spike hazards. There is also a new Gust spell that is unlimited and useful for unarmored enemies when you run out of spell charges (up arrow on keyboard, or hold R1+X on Xbox controller)
Thanks again for playing and your kind words
