How does your game fit the Magical Girl Genre?
The main character is a girl that can transform between normal and magical forms. The appearance of the magical form resembles how they are usually portrayed in Japanese media.

Which theme(s) do you pick?
Liberty

How does your game fit those theme(s)?
The story of the game revolves around defending the freedom of the planet against alien invaders ("Liberty" interpreted as "Freedom").

If you follow any of the optional challenges, elaborate as you like.
I didn't follow any optional challenges.

Were the assets for your game made during the jam? Elaborate as you see fit.
Assets made by myself during the jam were: most of the cloth pieces for main and supporter character, small part of the environment art assets, the game code. The rest is from third party sources: most of the environment assets and visual effects (my work was only in retexturing them to fit), sounds and music. The following was taken from my previous projects, done before the jam: escape menu code and layout, confirmation dialog logic.

Wow.

This game is way beyond overkill for a game jam lol

Unreal by itself is an absolute overkill, and then there is the map size also.

A few feedbacks:

  • Said this in discord, but a QoL pointing where to find the highlight would make it harder for the player to get lost (like I did)
  • I think the delay between waves is way too long

Other than that, good work. Thanks for submitting!

Thanks for playing, glad you've liked it.

The location marker was made bigger in later patches but only for 3rd and 5th chapters, I didn't expect someone to get lost at 2nd one. Not blaming it on you, different people just play differently.

Salutations!

This was an awesome experience to play! The Art Direction and the Visual Aesthetic look really polished and cute!

The story shines for how well it translates to the gameplay, and the cutscenes were well executed.
Ngl, even though the story does not show how Alice was before the Override, I mourn their loss of self for the greater good, and that detail alone made the story a tragedy, as many Magical Girl Stories are.

The gameplay was truly exceptional and polished; there were so many things to do in terms of combat that I found myself just wandering around testing them after the first tutorial wave ended.

And definitely appreciate the little details as the cars honking if you get too close or the items being foods with a lot of different effects. It surprises me how much of the gameplay is functional and polished.

I was truly invested, and before I noticed it, it was over.

There were no issues with performance on my end.

I have some notes from my experience:

  • I don't know if it's mentioned in-game or if it was obvious for everyone else but me, but I didn't know you could upgrade your abilities until the last chapter. Almost ended the game with the default stats. So I would suggest at least making the Progression button shine or doing something that indicates there are points available for upgrades.
  • The last chapter ended up a bit abruptly after beating the last enemy. Maybe due to the time constraint, there wasn't an ending implemented; it happens.
  • The Car Throw ability was kinda difficult to aim, would like an indicator on the enemy that it's being targeted. Maybe that's more of a Skill Issue on my end.

My final thoughts are:

The overall aesthetic is truly polished and helps the game shine a lot, adding up the interesting story and the greatly polished gameplay, and fitting music, I can say that I had an overwhelmingly positive experience. I can easily see this being developed into a full game, and it would be awesome.

Maybe is just me, but I need Justice for Alice. I'm still sad that her consciousness is lost forever, and I never even met her, although knowing her would make the mind override way heartbreaking u.u

Thanks for the detailed review, I appreciate it a lot.

The characters exploration and story in general is lacking in the game, I'm not very good at this kind of thing.

Skipping progression because of just not seeing the button was a problem among other players as well, something probably could be done about it. Cars being diffucult to aim is intended, if you master it, it becomes the best ability in your arsenal because of its damage and stun capabilities.

Glad you liked the game.

I had a lot of fun with this game. The only issue (and I know this is purely a me issue), is that I would've liked if the game was compatible with  controllers. I'm terrible at playing action games with mouse and keyboard.

Developer(+1)

Hey, thanks for playing. I'm a PC-only gamer and only ever used controllers in fighting games, so choosing a controller over mouse is a weird choice to me. I can probably add a controller support since I have a controller to test with, but without auto aim it would probably be very hard to play since this is basically a shooter game.

Pretty well put together visually, and I enjoyed running around the city and dodging cars. After defeating the first wave of enemies after the tutorial, they stopped showing up so I don't know if that was a bug, intentional, or I didn't go to the right spot.

Hello, your current task is always written in the top left corner of the screen. Assuming you were in chapter 1, after defeating enemies you need to return to the area where you spawned, specific location to trigger the dialog is highlighted.

Just to make you not worry as much, constant 60 fps on my computer haha!

The presentation was very lovely (Read Professional haha) and well optimised for a unreal game! My only real issue is that the main character felt a bit too slow, especially with the third level difficulty increase.

Feels like she needs to be a bit more nimble! Also loved some of the smaller little details such as cars honking before hitting you (Tony Hawk style).

Really solid effort :)

Thanks for the kind words. I'll look into making flying speed upgradable like HP and other abilities.
