Sorry for the late review! But I really enjoyed playing this game, even though I had a bit of trouble getting it to start ^^

After getting through the RTP hurdle, I played, got pregnant, and got soft-locked on Gabriel.
10/10 angels in hell are mean

Feedback coming from game-tester and user-experience designer.

Thank you for including instructions on how to install and run. Didn't play enough to have much feedback on the story as I immediately hit the soft-lock where you enter the room with Michael and he won't fight anymore.

Thought the Pregnancy status-effect was funny. The rest of what I experienced seems to be stock RPG Maker design, which is extremely rigid and restrictive for developers. For your next project, consider learning something like Game Maker Studio, Godot, or Unity to have more creative freedom over what kind of game you can make. With your sense of humor, I'm sure you could make something very fun. Be sure to have people play-test early and often to avoid creating no-win scenarios for players, particularly hard-locks and soft-locks. Great first project, more than I've ever done myself.

Any advice on getting it to work?

Would not load. I downloaded RPG Maker as well, still no dice

Developer

Aw man, I new that would probably happen to a few. Did it give any errors/tips for where it went wrong?

Submitted

Nope. Just says I need RPG maker installed, which I have.

Game Title: The Anty-Christ

Enjoyment (2/5): Utterly wild yet entertaining, and the length of the game is perfect for a game jam game.  The game is held back by some serious bugs and lack of overall polish. I had to restart the game the first time around because I denied demon arms, and when I returned he offered wings instead, which locked me out from progressing. So it felt like going forward I had to select only the options the game "wanted" me to take, which hampered my enjoyment.

Creativity (5/5): The narrative was engaging, and humorous. Some parts were a little *too* out there for me, personally, but the creativity is undeniable. I enjoyed talking to various NPCs and the overall level designs as well.

Theme (3/5): The core premise is interesting, but I felt the application of the jam theme could have been stronger. Also, the game presents itself as an RPG with stats and combat, but is really more of a visual novel / interactive fiction, with linear progress and scripted outcomes. That's fine, but it leads to a lot of unecessary menus and options, as well as may disappoint people expecting real combat. As a narrative experience, I feel it would have benefitted from more interesting choices to make. However, I understand all too well the limitations of game jams! so I don't fault the developers for not including many diverse branches.

Visuals (3/5): Some mismatched assets, with differences in resolution and size, but the environments were genuinely well made and interesting to explore. Some of the text could have used additional proofreading, and too much of the stock RPG Maker fluff is still present in the menus, but overall I appreciated the variations in the environments and felt it did a good job of staying fresh throughout. I especially liked how the player character visually evolved throughout the narrative.

Overall Score (3/5): Not bad for a first ever project! (my first games were virtually unplayable). But the bugs and lack of polish hold it back from being a recommendable experience. That being said, it's clear that heart and creativity were put into this, and I look forward to seeing more games from you in the future.

Good luck in the Jam!

Thank you very much for such an in depth and thoughtful review! Thanks for pointing that out about the choices, I had programmed it to work well, but turns out it only works for the first option to not soft lock you. I didn't have time to code battles or other branches for not having the demon powers and is definitely my next goal for after the judging period is over. That is very helpful. And I would love to learn to make the battles better but was struggling to figure out how to do that but also get the scenarios I wanted, so I just made it scripted for now. I really appreciate your review!

Saw the pun in the title and immediately had to come play this.  I loved this game!  The humor was great and all of the different characters were interesting.  All I can say is I hope  hell takes it easy on me when I answer for all of my own ant murders.

Funny, but all the battles are scripted and last 5 seconds. Good job.

Thank you! I would love to learn to make the battles better but was struggling to figure out how to do that but also get the scenarios I wanted and I ran out of time to figure it out, so I just made it scripted for now. I really appreciate it and look forward to checking out your game!

The custom characters look nice. Gameplay is simple but effective.

Not bad for little coding experience! The humor is very well done and the concept is very unique.

This is a pretty cool game. Kudos on a making your first jam game. I had fun playing this game and it has some clever useage of battles. I wish there were a bit more level design in this, more exploration and a bit of lock and keys like a metroidvania would have made this a really cool game, But for what you were able to do in the jam time is great!

First of all: Congratulations on your first game and submission in a game jam! Starting your game dev journey in a game jam is definitely a difficult challenge especially if you don't have any previous experience with coding but it's also an excelent way of learning!

The game is pretty funny. The dialogue and story is hilarious! I loved it! However, I noticed at the end of my playthrough that once I get out of the initial room to the second room there's no way to come back. This kinda compromised my gameplay because I was at the end after getting the lasers and I accidentally went to the other room and got stuck. Also, I would love for the combat to be more fleshed out, I noticed you just attack and pretty much everything is scripted and the player doesn't have controll over the outcome.

Visually, the game is pretty good and made me feel nostalgic about old games like pokemon (I loved the crystal maze theme, reminded me o Distortion World from Pokemon because of the floating a mystical environment).

Overall I enjoyed the game, especially the jokes  ahah

You can also check out our game if you want, I would greatly appreciate some feedback! Thank you!

Thank you very much for such an in depth and thoughtful review! Thanks for pointing that out about the rooms, I had changed all the enemies dialogues if you were to go to them again but forgot to make a way back! That is very helpful. And I would love to learn to make the battles better but was struggling to figure out how to do that but also get the scenarios I wanted, so I just made it scripted for now. I really appreciate it and look forward to checking out your game!
