Could have done with a smaller area / faster walking pace, nice aesthetic and interesting dilemas, reminds me a bit of the game "trolly problem inc", which takes the trolly problem and expounds on it to different scenarios. Compress the walking area and add more dilemas and you've got a pretty good little game.
You have a good foundation for a cool story driven game here! However, I think it could use some more work in the narrative and the scene is too big for the character. Either make the character move faster/implement a sprint or make the level shorter so the player doesn't have to walk long distances to its destination.
I like that you don't guide the player and tell him what to do, I love when games let you figure things out. The brief explanation at the start is a good hint to tell you what is your purpose and what you must do. However, I feel like the grave and putting the crystals there should be a little clearer. I got lucky getting in the grave place at the start because I instantly saw the slots and thought it had something to do with the objective but I feel like this can be easily missed by other players.
I have to admit, the classic trolly problem didn't captivate me but it could be easily fixed with a nice narrative behind it to give it more character.
The visuals are great, I liked the environment, the fog, the snow, the mountains and the textures were all great! But there seems to be a performance issue at the last room with all the candles. My framerate dropped a lot there. Maybe it has to do with the extreme amount of lights and objects casting shadows there? Other than that, great graphics and scenario, really enjoyed it! It's a shame the level is too big for navigation.
Overall, I think you've got a promising game here! Don't let the critics I gave here demotivate you and don't see them as negative things, but see them as improvements you can make towards new versions or more projects you eventually make! After all, making a game in just 4/5 days is an extremely challenging task. This game is still enjoyable and it plays well for the most part so congratulations on finishing it and for the submission!
Would really appreciate if you could rate and give feedback to our game as well! Thank you!
Thank you for the in depth feedback!
Yeah we felt a lot of this ourselves the closer we got to the end but it was too close to the deadline and we just wanted to have a playable game at least. I think we fell into the trap of 'more space means more gameplay time'. Which we now know is not the way too go. Definitely learned a lot for our first game which we are going to take with us into future projects!
Optimisation is still also something I'm learning as I'm going, we did remove a lot of the lights at the end but evidently it wasn't enough.
Overall I don't think we did too bad for just 2 of us!
And I will for sure check out your game and thanks again for the feedback!
I'm taking the title as an insult, how about, HERE LIES STUPID STINKY GO-LOW GAMES, um..... also... may you check out my game too?
Such a cool game. Very high quality. Loved the atmosphere and the voiceover.
This was really cool! Though I must confess I chuckled a bit seeing the literal trolly problem scenario with how memetic those have become :P. It didn't pull me out though! I really appreciated the ambiguity of the ending as well rather than cleanly stating anything. The only real complaint I have is that the area was perhaps larger than it needed to be. But the concept and execution made up for it.
Very cool concept! I like games that make you think and ask yourself if this is really the right choice. The vibe and the atmosphere really added to that uncertainty in the beginning where I didn't know if I was going the right way because of all the crossroads. Good work :)
Wow! Just wow! The atmosphere of the game was incredible! I felt like I had truly done some morally grey things to end up there. The voice of Death was interesting, but I was surprised that they meant “become death” metaphorically. I was FULLY expecting to take death’s place at the end. Well done!
A fun concept, effectively a more advanced trolley problem. It would be cool to see more of it! My one piece of feedback is that your level is far too big. It takes about a minute to walk between each trial, and the player is likely going to have to loop back on themselves. That made it drag a little, but its an easy solution to remember to keep the player busy and engaged and to not give them too much downtime! Well done!
For a first game this looks really good at least graphically. Well done!
Unfortunately I was not able to run it on my laptop as I have an older integrated GPU, so I will not be rating you, a it would not be fair.
very cool! feels visually like damien which i love. rated! i'd really appreciate if you could give my game a rate back :) great job on the jam! /jam/jamsepticeye/rate/3928723
Hmm... a thinker to be sure. Would be interested to see this idea fleshed out more with some stakes, or more of a payoff, but concept is solid.
just a note: My system could barely handle running it, would've been nice to be able to run a smaller window or reduce some settings or something, but not a big deal, nor really a factor in scoring. I don't have a strong rig currently, and I have a bunch of stuff open for work so not entirely a fault on the game's end either.
These questions were really tough to answer tbh, very thought provoking! I really like the game and the voice kinda reminds me of the other father from Coraline when he looks more like a pumpkin, I can imagine this voice saying "Only 1 key" XD
Love the overall theme and message of the game.
Only complaint is how slow the walking is, especially with how theres some distance between the gem collecting locations.
Cool approach to the theme! Sound didn't work for me for some reason, but I found it interesting either way :))
