Wow I had a really great time playing this game! I love the creative concept, the twist, and all the accompanying visuals! The use of Windows notes for the tutorial and text was a uniquely fitting and immersive touch. The final boss caught me off guard - I got scared and exited at the same time, haha. Also, the magic is OP :D I bought all the upgrades in the shop. Great job on the game, I enjoyed it!

Good job, nice Vampire Survivor like, enjoyed the glitchy aspect towards the end, read the controls but forgot you could dash or sprint haha

Submitted(+1)

The lead up to the final boss was visually so well done and left an emotional impact. I loved the game within a game concept and also enjoyed the battle gameplay! Superb work!

I liked this game a lot

It feels really good to play, really good stuff.

The power scaling also feels good.

I actually bought all 3 items in the first level, so gold after that was not of much use.

Congrats on releasing a really cool game!

I enjoyed that.

Loved the twist at the end there :D got a big Vampire Survivors/Undertale vibes from the game. The controls were unclear at first, got confused because I didn't realize you could melee with RMB, so I just stuck with Enter and wondered why the attacks weren't going the way I was facing :')

The second boss got annoying because they were constantly up your face, until I realized you could sprint with Shift. I liked the first boss because you could melee and swipe the projectiles, the other bosses felt overwhelming because this wasn't the case, but I guess that's bullet hell.

Good game!

Nice work! There were a lot of good visuals in this game: I liked the art of the little game world and all the enemy sprites, as well as the Windows 95 framing and the animated text. The music was nice and effective, especially near the end. The bullet hell portion was pretty satisfying to play, I wish there was a bit more feedback when you hit enemies (maybe make the hit noise a bit louder / more stagger or color change on enemies). Overall, had fun and I think your team was able to achieve a lot in a short amount of time!

Yoo that was really good! The theme was really well integrated, the gameplay is solid!

I just have one feedback:
When you level up most upgrades are for melee. When you shop, all the upgrades are for magic.
Usually a player will choose if he prefer melee or magic and take the upgrades accordingly, so you should try to do balance it out.

Good job!

Hey! I really liked the theme adaptation and the setting - the whole idea/lore was just extremely cool! Also enjoyed the music and visuals, with the controls feeling nice and responsive. I second what others have said here in the comments about running feeling like it would benefit from being the default "movement mode" - I specifically found that right-clicking to melee attack while running would bring up the windows "context menu" where just right-clicking wouldn't.

I liked the difficulty being on the more approachable side of the spectrum - it just makes you feel good haha.

SPOILER ALERT I also wasn't too sure if I did what I was supposed to at the very end when the game ended after clicking the bin.

That said, it was really fun, great job!

Really loved the concept with the computer setting, the way the story unfolded through the gameplay was super engaging, and the gameplay itself was a lot of fun! The music choices were on point, especially appreciated the bosses getting themes that really got me hyped for each fight. Huge props for how the final boss was handled too, super clever and memorable.

If I had one bit of feedback, it’d be the screen size. It felt a bit too zoomed in at times. A more zoomed-out view would’ve helped me get a better sense of the map and what was coming up.

Overall, one of the most fun games I have tried so far this jam, good length and pacing, great job to everyone involved!

Glad you liked the soundtrack!

Thanks for the kind words and the feedback! We really appreciate it :)

That was so fun! The music, environments, and character designs made me want to move in to this world. And the setting within the desktop was an excellent surprise

Fun game! I liked it. I had all of the upgrades from the shop and the final boss felt a bit easy. You jumpscared me with the music haha, I turned up my volume to check if there was any music in the beginning of the game.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! Yeah i wish i had more time to balance. If you have all the upgrades he's crazy easy, but if you're missing one or two he's a little too hard. There's a middle ground to be found for sure, but for the purpose of a jam i'd rather it be guaranteed beatable i guess so i let it be a bit easier :)

And fair point on the music, maybe i'd let the music play right from the start or have some ambient computer noise or something. Good feedback ty!

Developer(+1)

Glad you liked it! And thanks for the heads up about the volume jumpscare, I hadn't considered that possibility, but I'll definitely keep that kind of thing in mind for future projects hahah

Very cool game, very clear inspiration from Hollow Knight (prequel) game jam game 'Hungry Knight'. Nice job!

Submitted(+2)

Nice job! Mechanics are on point, very very nice music. I liked the art and the vibes, and the storyline twist.

Is there a way to upgrade the sword at the shop? The magic upgrades are so OP haha.

Only potential improvement I can offer is that the screen felt just a bit claustrophobic. The player and enemies were maybe a bit large and moved too fast, so it was harder to see what was coming and I didn't get as much of a feeling of cleaving through giant armies of enemies as what could have been.

Still a 5 stars from me for an interesting concept and fun gameplay!

Developer(+2)

Thanks for playing! I really appreciate it. Unfortunately didn't have time for the sword upgrades at the shop, only upgrades possible are the level up upgrades but this is something i'll for sure add in the post jam patch.

And i somewhat agree on the claustrophobic screen. I think shrinking things down a little and upping the enemy count would add a lot to the game for sure, thanks for the suggestion!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I'm really happy you liked the music, I had a great time working on it!

This is a great entry! A lot of love and skill was put into it as well as cutting corners when needed. I have much respect for that! It is a well made game with sweet top-down combat and upgrades. I love the unique narrative, design and great concept that works with the game jam well. Please make running the default.

The game displays intermediate and above skills and good knowledge of game mechanics. Also, it feels time was managed wisely and spent on things that matter. Also, what was the blue bar? Oh, it was XP!

⚠️Spoilers⚠️
The idea of having a game within a game is awesome! Inspiring. What happens if you lose in the last batter?</details
Developer(+2)

Thank you! I really appreciate the kind words. Couldn't have done it without the great artists and musicians also involved (my weak point for sure haha)
I appreciate the sentiment that the effort felt well placed, definitely was on a time crunch so had to descope quite a bit of the original concept but i'm glad what's left has resonated with people :) Good point on the running not being the default, don't see any purpose of walking vs. running in hindsight so will address it in a post jam patch

As for your ⚠️Spoilers⚠️
Had a few thoughts on how to handle death on the final boss. Felt weird to teleport back to the main hub after the reveal and transition. So I ended up just implementing a little alternate cutscene that plays and revives the character so you can't _really_ lose the encounter. Had some testers say they thought they were meant to die in the final encounter so i think that cutscene served its purpose!

⚠️Spoiler
I also thought I was meant to die there on the first run but on the second go I upgraded INT which is OP and it was an easy win. I felt bad deleting your game though.

fun to play and creative game with good execution, intuitive design, great enemies and environments, really cool fourth wall breaking finale. The music in home zone only plays once and doesn’t loop

Developer

ahh I meant to fix the looping music issue, oh well can do it in the post jam patch. Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+2)

Excellent job! Felt fair to fight. Had a good clear progression.

Submitted(+2)

Nice! Solid execution across the board, with gameplay, art, and theme all connecting quite well. The use of the "desktop" as a way to explain what's going on is quite slick... I always felt connected to the story and the game, and knew what to try next.

Developer(+1)

Thank you, in previous jams I don't think I did a great job in directing the player that well so hearing many people were able to finish the game and clearly knew the direction is great :)

Submitted(+2)

Wow! Loved the game, the design and levels are very intuitive.

Loved the 50g easter egg with the bushes!!

Breaking the fourth wall in the end, the game comes alive as final boss! Extremly fun and on theme.

Submitted(+2)

Very fun! Magic OP

Developer

Thanks for playing! I had a difficult time balancing the melee vs. the magic, in playtesting I heard the opposite opinion various times so maybe the magic is a bit overtuned haha
