That was a neat rpg, lotta solid work done here.

Thanks!

I'm blown away by just how much you managed to create in five days. Didn't finish it as the rating period is almost over, but you nailed the theme. Writing was good too! Awesome job!

Developer

Thank you very much! It's funny what not sleeping a healthy amount each day can accomplish xD

Thanks for playing! I appreciate your compliments, especially about the writing!

really cool visuals wow

Developer

Thank you very much!

How did you manage to do so much in so few days?! Haha, this is a really impressive effort - well done!

Developer (1 edit)

I slept roughly 20 hours across all the days since the theme was announced and the game was submitted. I do NOT recommend... but thank you very much. I've been meaning to give your game a shot and will do so now before voting ends!

Submitted(+1)

Oh wow, yeah - definitely make sure you get some rest after all this!! Haha - appreciate it, thank you! <3

I got overwhelmed by the complexity of the game to be honest lol. So impressive for 5 days!!!

But I can say I got past the first fight and that's an achievement for a noob like me with 0 experience in turn-based fighting games XD

Do make this into a full game!! It will find an audience

Developer

It is impressive! The game is not easy by any means (in fact I think it might be a bit TOO brutal because no one can finish it except me from the sounds of it xD) Thanks for playing! Going to give your game a shot now!

Fantastic project! Super excited to follow along for this one. I love this kind of subject and to see it blended with an RPG style like this is wicked cool. Awesome!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! I'm pleased to hear you enjoyed it so much. I hope I'm able to live up to expectations in the future as I'm not known to be the most timely with updates as I'm usually juggling 4 or 5 different hobbies at the same time  xD

Submitted

Same here, no worries. Our projects will get there one day lol xD

While this style of fighting games aren't my personal thing, I will say the inspiration of the King in Yellow caught my intrigue a lot, and I can tell that you put a lot of work into this in such a short amount of time. I'm looking forward to playing even more to learn more about the story you put into it :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much! I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, especially for how long it is.I appreciate you taking the time to give it a shot even though it's not you style of game :)

Submitted(+1)

God I'm so bad at these RPG fighting games but it was very good nonetheless. Great job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! And it's not you, I made the game very difficult xD I don't know if anyone has actually managed to finish it yet. Not even my friends who helped beta test it have been able to, which I think is a poor sign of balancing that I definitely need to work on after the jam!

Submitted(+1)

I really like the main mechanic here! and it matches the jam's theme extremely well!
The ability to change my character's archetype and the party makes me excited to lose.
This design allows for many many possibilities, and I can see myself coming back and trying to make the perfect party, or making a silly challenge build.
This game's story and gameplay are excellent!

(the only issue i ran into is not being able to leave the recruit menu if i didn't have enough money to buy anything, but that might be due to my unfamiliarity with rpgmaker games)

Developer

Thank you very much for your kind words! I'm really glad you enjoyed it so much and could see the potential :)

I will definitely look into the inability to exit out of the menu bug though. I think I might have forgotten to allow an exit for the loop in certain circumstances. I plan to actually revamp that entire system all together because right now it's a bunch of if/else statements and loops held together by ducttape and a hope xD

Pretty insane how much content you were able to get in such a short time, super impressive!! I loved your writing, the storytelling and character development is superb and you were able to create a world that very much feels like it exists, in a very short time. I do think the scope was a bit too big for a jam and the battle mechanics and plethora of classes and equipment and party members is a bit overwhelming. Great job though, and very cool entry!!

Developer(+1)

Yeah, the scope was WAY overkill imo. I had never done a game jam before, so I assumed the prompt meant a FULL game in 5 days, so I went wild trying to get as much in as I could to make up for it not being finished, only to realize I completely misunderstood the assignment. I could have stopped after the first boss, three maps in, and just had a handful of classes. Oops xD

Developer(+1)

Also, thank you for your praise of the writing! As an aspiring writer, that makes me very happy to hear!

Submitted(+1)

Omg the characters are absolutely adorable! I was really impressed by the amount of content you were able to put into this game given the time period! Great work! Rated ♥

Developer

Thank you very much! I tried to make sure each npc and playable character had a unique look to them so that they'd all stand out :)

Submitted(+1)

Not my style of game, but I did enjoy the story and how you implemented the theme! Keep up the good work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Yeah, the genre really isn't for everyone, but I'm happy you took the time to try it out :)

Submitted(+1)

Always nice to see another rpgm dev.  Congrats on finishing your first project as well! It's a really good effort considering the small time frame we had.  Keep it up!

Developer(+1)

Thank you very much! I saw your Alice in Wonderland inspired game and am aiming to play it later today/tomorrow. I really like the art style for the characters you have!

Submitted(+1)

Tyt!  It's a bit of a long one like yours so I don't expect many people to fully get through it haha.  But I'll look forward to hearing your feedback.

Submitted(+1)

there's quite a bit going on here,
will revisit!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Do let me know what you think when you do :) I'm planning to get to your game tonight and will leave a review/comment when I do!

Submitted(+1)

There's a lot of content in this game. Impressively done in the time period. Good job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I think I slept something like 20 hours collectively between the prompt being announced and when I eventually collapsed Sunday evening, and every spare moment I had was put into this. I think I drastically overdid it though xD
