The Frog must be next to The Gift

Submitted

This was really fun! I think I tried my best but I dont have enough braincells to figure out what I am supposed to do for the 8th ending LOL. It was overall very cohesive and I really liked the flavour text of it all, I can't believe you had so many variations within a short game jam! And the sprites were so cute as well! I think it could be improved by maybe having a hint pop up at the end screen for what could be tried in the next run since I was never sure the impact my actions had on the ending until I ended the shift and had to restart. I think also some of the interactions didnt trigger unless I stood in a specific place, even when I was next to the object, but that might be an alignment issue on my end haha.

How dare you call my game silly! XD (Thanks for playing)

Hand over the man!! >:))

Ohhh rated yesterday and then totally forgot to leave a comment! The game was very pretty, I like the art style. I looove the multiple endings but def didn't have the time to reach all of them XD

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot Val :D I’m glad you enjoyed it. When I get the chance to update a bit, I’ll add a sprint option to make it easier to replay and try to get multiple endings.

A phenomenally done game by one nerd in their basement (not actually). For real though, there was a lot of thought and effort put into this game in the time provided. you get not 1, not 2, but MANY PLAYABLE ENDINGS O.O (is that a spoiler? I removed the number for spoiler purposes)!!!! Definitely give this guy a chance, as for me I'm off ending hunting >:3

Developer

Haha XD Thanks a lot Oddacity! And thanks for showcasing it on your stream :) Was a joy to see you explore the hotel and you did some expert level detective work. I’ll be curious to see if you manage to get the super secret ending :) (Which is ending 8, and only one person got so far).

Let me know as well if you find the Monty Python reference XD I remembered last night where I put it so it’s definitely there.

I apologize that I could not get an ending with the amount of time I had allotted to play each title, but this one is a charming little game. The music was fun and the art was charming. I wish I had more time to play it, so I will probably come back after the jam and give it another whirl. Thank you for sharing your game with the world!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot for playing the game :) And I totally understand. So many did a great effort to test and rate jam games, and theres a lot to choose from! I have so many I sadly did not get around to.

I can note for potential future plays that I will update the game post-jam to have running as part of the gameplay, to make it easier to do multiple runs and explore endings.

This was really well put together for a game jam game. and one of the most engaging I've played. Loved the writing, art style and ambience. I achieved ending 2 & 7! kinda wished I consumed more monsters... I feel like that may have gotten me the 8th ending?

Anyway, good narrative, I saw the theme clearly, made me laugh and it made me curious! excellent work :)

Developer

Thank you so much! :) Some ending are more obscure than others, but I think all should be feasible to get with more exploration.

After the jam I’ll likely update the game to have a sprint movement, which will make exploration a bit faster :)

Submitted

Yes the movement at times was a little slow, especially if I needed to move from one end of the hotel to the next. Though, you cluttered the world enough that I found the walks interesting enough. such as admiring a new painting along the way!

I think its important to make some time for people to take in the world you create too, so definitely consider that if you make exploration faster :)

i loooove it!! i managed to get the endings 1 to 7 but i have a guess on what to do for another one i just can't find out how to solve the last puzzle for what i assume would be the last ending:c i love it soo much though, i'm going to wait if you update it later with parlours and another rooms!! and i'm probably going to try for another time because i must have missed something
and i love death by death ending. it's so funny because the last drop was having a hot coffee:p

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Thank you for the very sweet comment! :) I’m glad you took the time to play through so much of the game. Really. I appreciate it a lot. There will indeed be an expansion of the game, that at least partially will be devved on stream :) Edit: Thank you for the quick reply XD

oh sorry!! i somehow didn't think about it😭😭 i edited it!!

Developer(+1)

No worries haha XD

An enjoyable game! The art style and witty writing stood out the most to me. Gives hefty The Secret of Monkey Island nostalgia ^-^

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot! And absolutely XD I played Monkey Island 1 a lot as a kid. Glad the inspiration shone through.

I enjoyed the game's visuals, (and the goofy portraits lol) I've only gotten one of the endings so far (Ending 2) but I might replay it to get more of the endings! it's pretty cool!

Developer

Thanks a lot! :) I’m sure a bit of exploration will piece by piece reveal what the deal is :) With only ending 2, most of the game you haven’t seen XD

Make sure you play with arrowkeys and space bar, as there is a bug where the mouse does not let you interact with many things… (Also, downloadable version plays best because ESC is menu button and minimises the game…).

This was really amazing, i loved the dialogues and all the little monster, the Cerial lil guy and the dog being my favorite !! Well done this is amazing

Try my game if you can too  /jam/jamsepticeye/rate/3935312

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot :) And happy to hear the silly monsters were appreciated XD I would love to play your game, but sadly I will be travelling the last day. If by chance I arrive early, I will try my best to play it, it looks great.

Submitted(+2)

This was really heartwarming. The dialogue and art are super charming, and I really liked how more secrets were revealed as you explored--it made the mansion feel very alive and interesting to traverse. The NPCs are also very cool (love the silly dog :3). Amazing work <3

Developer

Thank you so much :) It was a fun challenge to give incentives for further exploration, and I’m glad to hear that it felt alive.

the most thing that i liked is collecting items and having status for the character, it adds lots of possibilities and variety to the gameplay, the music is also very nice as well as the art. AND HAVING 8 ENDINGS??? that's incredible for a game made in 5 days spawn and on stream. SICK GAME

Developer(+2)

Much appreciated! Glad you liked it :) And glad you liked the status system. I wanted a simple “game mechanic” that would open up gameplay based on your actions

Submitted(+2)

The music reminds me of a level on old Adams family games on snes. I liked it, I am amazed you did this in such a short time soo much tiny artwork to make. nice work!

Developer

Thank you so much :) It was a lot of drawing indeed. Every map is hand drawn, but naturally, walls and such were copy pasted. I also used hue shifting a lot to be more efficient, and efficiency was definitely needed.

Submitted(+1)

I had been following your Progress on Twitch as was looking forward to playing this one. Haven't quite gotten the final ending yet.

This is a very good game given the 5 day time span. I could very well see this being picked up by Let's Players.

Developer

Yeah I recall you hanging out during the stream :) and I’m glad you liked it!

Given how many amazing games were made, I don’t think it’s likely to be played, but I would love to see Mr Spedicy or Ducky try to get the different endings XD

Submitted(+1)

Great job! So much content to get through. Yeah the downloaded version is better but that’s okay. Art and sound was great, very detailed. Love the style. Nice work for your first game!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot! :) I had no idea “Esc” was a poor choice for menu button due to the way full screen works. Definitely a good learning process XD
