WHAT A BLAST!! I had a great time driving through gigantic hoards of zombies as they all started to pile up in the center of the map. The art & VFX had a really great retro feel to them!

Developer

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
It was certainly fun to make too 😊

Had fun driving into the hoards of zombies, and it was nice to have the Computer players driving a long to compete with. The driving controls felt pretty good, however making tight corners slowly or going up slopes without jumping was hard to achieve, but going fast felt real good. I did like the simple act of driving into enemies, but I feel like it would be a bit more rewarding if there were more and they had less health, since I don't think I killed a single zombie until the 3rd or 4th time I ran into them.

Developer(+1)

Good call, I thought about reducing their health a few times but ultimately never pulled the trigger on that one. That makes it a little harder though.

Love the retro battle car theme. Wasn't entirely sure at first if the win condition was killing the little goblin dudes or collecting pumpkins or destroying the other cars, but it came together in the end.

Would love a more polished version.

Developer

Thanks, yeah there were plans to actually have a win condition, but it could also be interpreted as no way to escape your inevitable death 😂

I liked this game a lot and the old school graphics and the game mechanics, I tried really hard to get those items on the ramp and kept missing it which was kinda funny XD, are those other cars other players or the ai cars? I was also surprised that I wasnt the only one thinking about making a car game in a horror genre theme XD which was a nice thing. Also for some reaosn my laptop heated up a lot while playing it. Pretty fun game! :>

Developer(+1)

I enjoyed your game as well, it was a natural fit XD
The enemies are all AI... wasn't nearly enough time to get multiplayer going although that was the thought initially. There is a lot of stuff going on, so probably more room for optimization too.

Thanks again! I also liked yours.I can understand you, I heard adding networking is very hard task, so I think its good that there are ai enemies instead. I do recommed you to look into Object Pooling if you want to optimize your games for a lot of Object spawning and also the gpu instancing which reduces draw calls. I did get like 50 points in your game I think :D

Developer

Thanks for the tip, that sounds like it would be very useful!
Yes, proper networking for fast games requires a relatively high-performance server that consolidates input from all of the clients and runs the simulation. It's another layer of complex stuff.

Looks like this was a lot of fun to make! great work getting a full game loop with custom assets!
My one big feedback is the camera, lots of jittery movements made it hard to play for a long time. 3rd person cameras are quite tricky

Developer

It was very fun, thanks! You're right, the camera was on the list of things that didn't get optimized in time for the submission.

A neat idea that could be a tooon of fun with some polishing up. I found the vehicle controls to be slippery, which made it hard to aim and pick up items like the drill (I lost my first run to a group of zombies while trying to pick up the drill, but i kept flying right over it lol). the gun seemed serviceable but I feel like it took a lot of bullets to kill anything. On that note, the enemies (the other vehicles mainly) can absolutely DUMP into you and kill you in seconds with insane accuracy. I liked the day and night cycle and the music with the Castlevania flip was pretty great too.

Developer

Hehe glad you noticed the music. The other cars can feel really smart, but they can also get stuck hitting the wall over and over so I felt it was pretty balanced there😂

I also noticed the controls being sub-optimal when setting up the controller, so that may need to be fixed if/when the game is updated. Thanks for the feedback!

FYI your "Windows download" appears to just be your unity project files and not the exported game. There's no executable. Web built works fine.
Sorry for to make this such a blunt post, figured you'd want to know immediately.

Developer(+1)

It is most certainly the Windows build of the game. You just run Mur-Derby.exe and then you play it.

Submitted(+1)

Oh, I figured it out. I used "Extract here" and there's no folder inside the zip, so it scattered the contents to the wind based inside my Downloads. Sorry for the jumpscare.

Developer

Well you prompted me to build it again in windowed mode so the game can be closed properly without knowing how to use keyboard shortcuts, so thanks anyhow 😂
