We went home a little early and got away with 880 points :D nice game
I played this one for longer than I'd like to admit. I was a little frustrated at the start until I saw the tiny numbers going up at the bottom indicating the candy. It would be helpful feedback for the player to have some sort of SFX or more obvious visual that they are receiving candy from the houses. I never did make it back to mom on time though, I'm still a little unsure on how to do that, but perhaps I'll revisit and try again.
I really enjoyed this, well done!
Very interesting. I found your game just OK when playing it for the first time, but after a second run I found much more positive to say.
It's true that the main theme is not respected (the TV only makes a small cameo and has no role), and the secondary trick-or-treat is not used at all (no double-edged bonus, no checkpoint), but the rest is very good.
The aesthetics is pleasing, I like the fog effect and the spooky surprise wen you get out of the town. Town which is procedurally generated, that guarantees new games every time. Just a marker for home on the map would help a lot, it's a procedural maze.
Very good choices of musics, the SFX are simple and efficient. The "trick-or-treat" does not sound very "childy", is it your voice ? Maybe a bell sound could have been added when the clock is short and, a fail sound when you cannot head home on time. Clearly showing what treats we got is also missing.
It's a good piece of work, even if off-subject. Bravo !
Was a fair effort but it wasn't clear to me how to get points. I also couldn't figure out where home was and if there wasn't anything I should be doing other than speed running from house to house. Also, the UI text was very hard to read even in full screen. You've got something here and I can see effort was made on it, just the trick is learning how to buff out those rough spots. I think if you communicate better how you get score that would help with the fun of the game.
Music was nice, audio was mixed well in general. nice that you managed to add the trick or treat as a primary function. the UI text felt a bit small.
I spent a few minutes playing this. It's a fun game!
The music is good and the spooky town looks very nice!
I would prefer a longer timer to give me more time to explore the town.
It's not really clear where "home" is. It took me a few plays to stumble across the portal. You should definitely show that on the map. It would also be helpful if the map showed which direction you are facing.
The game could use a better end screen so I can see what my score was after I lose. 😅
I know the yellow bar is for running. What is the grey bar next to that? Just curious - it didn't seem to do anything.
Hi. Thank you for the feedback. Those things could definitely use more love. The other bar is a "sickness" meter. Eating candy fills it up and it drains slowly over time. Once it is full every candy you eat can make you sick. Once that happens you are slowed, cannot run, and your energy regeneration stops. I had a full-screen effect to show it instead of a resource bar, but I found that doesn't work on the web build and I didn't have time to figure out how to solve that. Oops.
Oh! I didn't notice you could eat the candy! LOL
Awesome job!
The procedural generation of the environment, and having a map to go with it is very impressive! The whole game was very atmospheric. I managed to get a highscore of 780. I tried finding all the pumpkin statues, but I'm not sure if I found them all.
Overall awesome job to both of you!
Thanks for playing. I'm a big fan of procedural generation, so I had a lot of fun with this one. There is a 30% chance to get a pumpkin statue on each tile that is off the main path. Sometimes you end up with more and sometimes less.
