Interesting idea! I think using games for personal reflection like this is a cool use of the medium. The art style did give a strong nostalgic feeling, and there were a lot of unique details that actually made me take notice of some of the stuff in my own desk space that I usually don't even acknowledge because I've gotten used to them being there. I guess it's only when we go through some sort of change that those things we've taken for granted are visible again. I wasn't sure if this was the case, but did all the items packed up in the box show up in the next space you moved to? I think I packed a lot of trash without really thinking about it 😅. Just from a technical standpoint, I know this is probably not on you and more on Unity, but it seems insane for a small game like this to need almost 600 MB of space, unzipped. Again though, I'm not familiar with the norms for Unity, so maybe that's just the overhead required, but perhaps there's some way to optimize it further? In any case, this was a chill and evocative game!
programmer here, thanks for stopping by and commenting ! really glad it made you reflect on your own things, that's very sweet :]
yep, a bunch of items appear later if you pack them, the frog plush even gets more wrecked ! regular trash and wrappers aren't on the list tho, the rooms just get progressively more messy regardless haha
for the size, i didn't even notice unzipped is that big yikes, i hope people didn't have trouble with it,,,,
unity does tend to bulk it up, especially if working in 3d, i did what i could on my end to lessen the load, but there's probably a bunch of model optimization that can be done in blender beforehand, and there's a lot of models
we're both pretty new to making games so we're still learning how to make everything operate smoothly, thanks for the feedback, we will definitely look into it for the future !
Love the detail on the various items and chucking things out of the window!
I like the hand drawn art style of this XD
and it's quite interactive too XD
Great! Like the vibe and the style. The card art is really nice, and the achievements are fun.
I found it easy to drop things and hard to pick them back up :(
Really nice game. Small idea, but well done! I like the achievement mechanic. <3
this was a really special game! i played through it to the end and got most of the achievements/endings.
i really like the art style and art direction here - to me it’s really evocative of when you’re moving/clearing stuff and see all your past reflected back at your through your possessions.
there’s a good variety of objects/clutter too. some of my favourites include “gamer: the bird” and the comically broken headphones. i loved exploring the extra interactive features for some of the objects, and i thought the achievement system was a clever way of encouraging the player to thoroughly explore any objects that look like they might have a function.

i also liked the contrast between the final level and the previous two. while the first two were perhaps bittersweet, they felt almost cosy. in contrast, the final level really brings out the feeling of cold rejection that perhaps comes with moving out of an office, like this is an institution you don't belong in anymore. the hidden away personal items really added to that feeling. i thought overall the changes between the desks in each level were a very clever method of storytellingoh i also liked the funny cat USB in that level it was really good
most of my gripes with this are pretty much just technical/ease of use stuff. i keep accidentally dropping things when trying to move them and smaller items are impossible to retrieve once they’ve rolled offscreen. also, when i inspect items i tend to hold them in the center of the screen. (in the first level especially) the trash can is pretty close to the center of the screen, so it’s easy to accidentally throw something away that you didn’t mean to.
also, i’m not entirely sure how to get the functional, trash and sentimental endings? i tried to only keep items of those types but the card showing that it worked never appeared :(
programmer here ! thank you for taking the time to play and comment, i'm really glad to hear we conveyed everything as we wanted to :]
for the issues, i was expecting most of those things to come up, i'll definitely take some time after the judging to further proof the room of losing items, i did account for that happening in the way endings are calculated so you can miss a few without problem
sorry about the endings not showing up ! i had a bit of trouble exporting the final build, something got corrupted, the testers were able to get all endings, but i had a suspicion there will be issues when more people play
thank you for really engaging with our game, i'm looking forward to checking out your entry as well when i grab some time !
