Note: It took some time for me to get back around to finishing comments on the jam games. Pardon the late comment!
This one was excellently put together, between the collection of small stories involving Kogasa, the creative blacksmith wordgame, and the cute, colorful style!
Although I don't have much to add that others haven't mentioned, one of my favorite parts was the cute portraits. I heard about some of the development in the Touhou game dev Discord, and really enjoyed seeing the characters' outfits come together.
(I hear that Nue's outfit was particularly fun - and it shows across all of the characters!)
Really fun puzzle game with cute art and some of the best writing I've seen so far in the jam games! The game rewarding you for extended Touhou knowledge is a really nice touch. I could definitely play this one for a long time.
I enjoyed using my Bejeweled experience to help me get the letters in the right spots that I wanted them to be in 馃榿 It would be really fun to have some option to add custom text to make custom levels!
Cleared one of the stages in a voice chat and having almost the entire board covered in flames, but I still passed it.
The portraits are really cute, and the Hammer Kogasa is a neat reference. The story also feels like a Pride Jam game, but with the fact the items are tailor made also makes it fit this jam as well!
Finally got to play the game (on the web version since the linux one still do not play any audio).
First, the art is reaally cute, and it鈥檚 a really good game overall. Balancing this kind of game must be really hard, although the fire is quite frustrating.
Once you have more than 5 tiles on fire, you have already lost 鈥檆ause the fire spread too quickly.
Maybe the fire could progress by one tile per turn ? Or just preventing the player from smithing without at least one fire tile being used ?
Otherwise, love this game !
Seems like Zun wasn't the only one to forget Mima.
My one complaint was how quick fire spreads. If you can't stop the fire block the turn it appears, you have to use the ability. If you have no ability, better pray you can finish before the whole forge burns down. Otherwise, very good!
Watching the game freeze for half a second while it looks for a valid word is fun. I wonder if that鈥檚 why there鈥檚 a limit of two, rather than it being a gameplay reason.
Thanks! And yes fire is currently a menace, we鈥檒l balance its spread in a post-jam version.
Yeah the limit of two was because that鈥檚 the highest my computer would go before getting slowdown. I鈥檓 sure if I made the selection of valid words for the tile more efficient then we could manage 3-4 at a time but even more than that and the cost鈥檒l go exponentially.
There's not much penalty to scrambling at the moment though other than fire counting turn. It might technically dock points from using up a turn but it's usually still much faster to resort to Scramble if the word is 2+ turn away, and higher score from not using as much turn sorting character together.
As for fire there's basically no recovery on first fire spread unless you use all adjacent 5 tiles at once which is a bit rare. Bombs and rock didn't really play much mechanic since it is relatively rare, and beer tiles kind of shares problem with scramble.
Oh boy, we should probably filter for, uh, bad words in a post-jam version. For now, I鈥檓 glad you enjoyed.
Fire tiles and scrambles are currently numero uno and dos on my hit list for fixing. Fire being evil will stay but it does need to be slower. Scrambles are technically working as intended but making those more random and less likely to just give you the word but still make spelling it possible is probably gonna require a hefty rework of how we randomize tiles.
As for the rarity of the other tiles, uh, I believe bombs were given a vwry harsh limit depending on the presence of fire on top of its low spawn rates and stone just has low spawn rates. I may bump them up later.
Very good. I used a lot of swears and won. Presentation was great and the game was nice and relaxing. Only thing is I think fire is a bit too overwhelming. Maybe if it were slower to spread
I don鈥檛 know if I did anything wrong but the game does not seem to work correctly on my hand, be it the Linux version or the Web version (+ the linux version does not play any music nor sound).
After starting the game, I only got the following screen:
I may be dumb idk, in that case sorry in advance.
No, it鈥檚 almost certainly not your fault though this is very baffling.
What web browser do you use?
(EDIT: After going back and forth, it appears the issue was the French. If you have this same issue, change your computer鈥檚 settings from French to another language/locale and it should hopefully work.)
(EDIT 2: Since v1.0.1 of the game, this problem has been patched.)
I鈥檓 using Firefox. I just tried using chromium just in case, I have the same issue here. I also tried the windows version through wine, same result. I don鈥檛 understand at this point.
I don鈥檛 understand either.
I could compile a development version of the game and have you dump the logs so I can have an idea of what鈥檚 going on. You鈥檙e on the jam Discord server?
I am on the jam server, feel free to contact me. (Bear in mind that I am on a linux machine right now)
Just got access to a windows machine, tried the web version on firefox and chromium, then tried the standalone. Each time I got the same result.
I鈥檓 starting to think it鈥檚 a me problem.
