Would you like a mace? A sword maybe?
No sir, the King would do just fine.
very funny take on the theme. That alone was enough to hook me to the game. The platforming was not the best I've seen. but with the limited time in a jam, still pretty good. Very nice game overall.
Your intro to this post is great! I wish we had thought of something like that to put in the description. I'm very glad that you enjoyed our game and the silliness of it! We really didn't take ourselves too seriously with this game, and that made it really fun to make. The platforming is a little difficult and that isn't really good for a platforming game. We will hopefully be able to fix that when we can! Thanks for your feedback it is appreciated!
Picking up the king and using it to kill enemies is a creative interpretation of the theme.
I found the controls to be a bit wonky, I'd often bounce around when colliding with walls which let to a lot of situation where I had a harder time going where I wanted than I should have.
The music seemed to reset a bunch in awkward ways as I traversed through the world. Sadly means I couldn't exactly listen to the music in full as intended.
I made it through to the third king and kind of stopped paying attention and died, since the second king had a different color I was curious on if there was any specific end or milestone or if it truly is just an infinitely long game?
I'm glad you enjoyed our game, especially the attack mechanic! We are very proud of that part. The map design isn't the best and that was something we hoped to come back to and improve if we had the time, but sadly we didn't. The music glitch was very disappointing for us because it only appeared when we uploaded the game and we couldn't find the cause before the jam ended. It happens sometimes and sometimes it stays and other times it is fixed when you reach a checkpoint. Again, very disappointing. To answer your question, yes the game is infinitely long. You will deliver one king, then start the journey to deliver the second, and so on.
Really funny interpretation of the theme! I like the idea of using the king's bed as an attack, though with being able to pick up the king I imagine it would have been a fun addition to be able to throw him too.
I couldn't get very far - the wall jumping feels inconsistent and difficult to use and I kept one-hit dying to the minecarts. Good fundamental gameplay though, definitely has a good base for if you continue. Nice work!
Thanks for the feedback! I like that you enjoyed our attack mechanic! Throwing the king is a very good idea and something we did want to implement but sadly we ran out of time, we do want to have that in the game eventually. It sucks that you couldn't get very far I do think it is a pretty difficult game. I can only make it to the second king before I die. Minecarts are very annoying, we'll probably change the way they work in updates. I'll be sure to check out the game that you made and I'll make sure my team hears about it too!
I played until i picked up third king. It's rough around the edges, but having small, bite-sized levels with timer got me going for a while. Got locked out after one of the levels accidentaly, but managed to walljump around the shop and kept going. Whacking enemies with the king felt both goofy and satisfying. I like this one quite a lot!
I'm surprised you made it to the third king, that's awesome! This game is definitely rough around the edges. We will hopefully sand those down as time goes on. I appreciate the comment on the chair slam attack we spent a lot of time on that aspect to make it feel good and satisfying. Thanks for playing our game! I'll be sure to play yours and tell my team about it!
cool game! A platformer roguelike is pretty rare to see especially in a game jam and I thought this was pretty well executed! I did run into a couple bugs, namely the terrain generated in a way where the whole path to the next section was blocked off, and another where clicking gave me like 30000 favor each time? I might be missing something there. Some bugs will be inevitable though especially in game jams, and it didnt take away much from the gameplay overall. Overall well made and unique idea! you should be proud of yourselves
The terrain issue is one I've personally run into a couple times myself, I planned to fix that but ran out of time. The favor bug is something we didn't see until it was too late and several hours after submission, but its not the worst bug. I do agree that the wall jumping and wall sliding don't feel the best and I hope to perfect those in the future. Thanks for playing and commenting on our game! I'll be sure to play yours and mention it to my team!
Hi ThatBowlofHummus! I just played you and your team's game, King's Transportation Inc., and it's really a unique one of that. This game is essentially a 2D roguelike platformer that takes place in the medieval times, and I love the procedurally generated rooms and the amount of upgrades, plus the king smashing attack animation is really some good use of a smear effect, and even some screenshake to add to the impact. I especially love the soundtrack done by one of your teammates, and it's really something that I can listen to for a long while. The artstyle is great too, though it can get a little jarring the more I stare at it (Nothing negative about it, as I've been in that situation, too back when I was using GDevelop). Oh, and also, the controls aren't really the best setup than what I imagined (Particularly A and D to move, Spacebar to jump, and Left Mouse Button to attack. I'm more familiar with stuff like Arrow Keys to move, Z to Jump, and X to attack, because it really feels more authentic and precise to me, but hey, you do you.) Plus, the wall jumping doesn't really feel the most fluid to me, and as for the level design, it's great, but the platforming doesn't really feel the most fluid and precise. Overall, 3.5/5 stars! ⭐⭐⭐ OUTSTANDING work, ThatBowlofHummus ThatBowlofHummus, CollorAlloy, and GlowingTrebstep.
Also, ThatBowlofHummus, if one of your teammates has the time, if they would check out my game, Delivery Berrie, and rate it, I would very much appreciate of them even playing my game, and giving me feedback, whether it's good or bad! Thank you so much! ❤️🎮🕹️🤴
Thanks for playing our game! We do want to continue improving this game and your feedback is appreciated! I'll be sure to have them check out your game as well!
