This visual novel hooked me really bad and has portrayed the most unique take of a "parasite" in this jam for me. At first I thought "this is lacking gameplay" but it more than made up for it with the excellent writing, the interesting interactions and descriptions of events, of powerlessness, of depression. It started weird, got depressing, then dissociative and then optimistic and full of self-love. It was so good that I was just fine clicking myself from dialogue line to line until it presented me with a choice in the end, time passed so quickly I didnt even notice.
A critique I would have is that the choices are so far in the end that the story does not have time to wrap itself up adequately with each ending. It feels kind of rushed, especially with the second rotting ending. If the game presented the choices and then gave itself a little more time to end the story around the choices, that would have been great. The rot ending also feels like a 180° from what was said just right before as the player character seemed to be giving in to what the "parasite" was saying. But I'm also happy that both endings didn't portray themselves as the good and/or the bad ending.
Nevertheless this was a really thought provoking and emotional experience, as someone who, like many others, can kind of relate with the emotions displayed. Very well done!
Amazing visual style, great work!
Very nice, unique view on the term parasite, but really understandable. I'm sure many of has had these type of "parasites" and make the choice.
Well done, one of my favourites.
thank you so much! I really wanted to do a unique spin on the idea of a parasite, and I'm happy with the response it's getting !
Now this was my favourite game out of all of those I got to play. Writing was really good, especially for a game made in such a short amount of time. I aspire to be like this. If you ever plan on expanding this and making it a full experience, I will be tuned in.
Also quick question, did the tv series Severance inspire you at all? because I see some similarities that made me love it even more.
Funnily enough I've never seen Severance, but it's on my "to watch" list. I've only heard good things about it so I'm honored to know the vibes were similar. Thank you so much for the compliments on the writing, and I really hope I have the chance to expand on this further.
once you watch it you'll see what im talking about LMAO.
Really liked this one. There is little to no interaction, but I liked the concept and the writing is really well done. It's an interesting and unconventional take on the jam theme, uncanny but also unexpectedly wholesome (?). Also the art is amazing and really helped me connect to the character's feelings. Great job!
The game was VERY good, I like the story a lot and even if it would have been good to add other options, it's great as is. I did find the ending a bit lackluster though, but overall it's a great game.
I'm 100% willing to admit the ending was the weakest part. I've already got plans for a remake/expansion for this game at a later point. Still, very glad you had a good time with it!
I'm not a big fan of visual novels either, but I am a reader and I really enjoyed the writing and the character depth. They felt like real, messed up people. There's also a surprising amount of content and interactions that make the scenes feel immersive. It's clearly really thought out and I can see you took your time and care on the story.
Thank you! Fina was a joy to write just because of how messy she is. I'm glad that came through! I got very invested in such a short time, and it makes me happy that everything came together well.
Visual novels aren't my favorite for gameplay, but your writing and themes made my time with this game very enjoyable and involved. Personally I'm a believer that societal expectations are not a one-size-fits-all solution for personal happiness and prosperity, so I was just as disgusted as the MC was lol. I like that neither ending was presented as a happy, cheerful ending. I would say this game has made me the most uncomfortable so far with its themes of loss of control. Fantastic work.
I'm glad you were able to enjoy it! and I'm very happy with the themes and other things people are walking away with
This definitely hits close to home, having let covid push me into a pit of isolation that I didn't work my way out of until a few years ago, though I didn't have a parasite in my brain ('least I don't think so). Very solid writing, with a very literal yet fresh representation of loss of autonomy and how we balance that with our own self destructive tendencies. The ending felt a bit abrupt, but given this is for a jam I know that time is a luxury in short supply. Well done!
Honestly I was crunching myself at the end. It's why the ending is pure CGs and no sprites! I'm glad it was still able to resonate though
Nice mood.
The take of a " good " parasyte that change your life in better is something original and really liked it.
Meaby more interactivity for a game would have been nice for me, but that are personal tastes.
MAKE THEM KISS
maybe one day!
