I really liked the visuals and especially the sound design. As another person said, the infected humans have awesome design! The only thing I would change if I would make it into a bigger game is that I wouldnt make the game fully dependent on luck. But I think you understand that. I really liked the reveal in the ending 1. I am not a full supporter of the game's idea but it is a very interesting take. Had to watch endings on YouTube lol. Great job!
Thank you very much for playing the game!
Yeah, making it totally based on luck can be really frustrating, if I ever do anything similar again I will make sure that this luck is somehow controlled so it is not that frustrating. I'm glad you liked the visuals! :)
I think visually the game is perfect, the parasite head characters with the bloody suits is a nice visual and a strong horror mascot imo. If the game gave a little more context to what is happening or why we are participating in such a game it would have been nice.
I'm gonna be honest and say that I didn't get any ending since I stopped playing at around human 12 or something. Which leads me to my main problem with the game: gambling is nice but it gets way better with some amount of agency, in these three games there is no way for me to plan, to interact on a deeper level or make any meaningful choice that could affect my fate. After some tries it just gets repetetive and I want to skip forward so bad, which works against the nice atmosphere you have built visually and with sounds. So game design wise there is some room for improvement. I think it needs more to be a "game" in that sense of the word instead of just a coin flip simulator.
If the characters gave some more context to the games and the story every few deaths it would at least soften the blow of dying on repeat and having to redo everything all based on luck. Maybe we are always the same human who gets reset after each "death" to breed a being capable of defying all probabilities or something. Anyway I still like the game visually and the sounds and the vibe it creates there is definetely potential.
Yeah I agree 100% with your comment, making it totally random makes the game a tedious the more you play it. I think that, what other person commented would be a interesting change, to make the games more oriented towards memory challenges rather than pure luck (which can be and is not really fair).
Thank you very much for your comment and I'm glad that you like the environment of the game. Regarding the context I left everything for the ending but if luck is not on your side I understand you did not reach them. I will take the note for future projects to provide hints of the lore of the game during the game and not only at the end.
If you still would like to see the endings, I posted the videos for those that could not get passed through the dice guy. They are in the game page if you are still interested. Thank you again for the review :)
The art direction was on point, probably the best in all the projects in the jam. INCREDIBLE job on the animations! An option to skip the dialog once you read it would be really appreciated because I needed to spam the click button so much.
I wanted to see the end but I just couldn't get passed the dice guy, he got straight 5's and 6's which was impossible to beat.
Check out our game as well! I think it'd be great to do a project together some day (we also use Godot!)
I'm really happy that you liked it! Thank you very much for the review!
Yep, dice guy was a tough one. I made the game purely random but I should have implemented some way of control it so when you die multiple times things get easier. If you are still interested in the endings I posted them in the game page.
This was my first "finished" project and I'm not that confident yet with my skill to contribute to a team. But I will take you at your word, it is really really appreciated! I will for sure take a look at your game. I already had it on my to-play list hehe, it catched my eye when scrolling through all the games
It is a great game! art, audio design and story telling is great. Dices got 5 and 6 couple of times, but I just needed 13 tries to get a look at the whole thing and it is pretty tied up together!
Nice game, looking forward tof uture game releases đź’•
Thank you very much for the comment! I'm glad that you liked the game even though you had to play it 13 times! Dice guy was definitely not a nice guy :D
It's almost the ideal thing to do at a jam, except the dice game. I manage to get ending ones, but cube is killing me.
The randomness of it is simply devastating.
Thank you very much for giving the game a try :)
Yeah, I have to admit that the dice one can be a pain sometimes. I tried to implement a mode where only 1 round was needed per station but I came across some bugs :( Hope that at least you liked the game despite how random the dice was
Stunning concept, love a bit of gambling.
Haha, the "we need you alive" was a good jab.
All my dice rolls was unlucky but very fun game.
Good art, amazing sounds.
5/5
Thank you very much for passing by :)
Yeah, I do not know why the dice one is that difficult to win, torque, direction and force were all to be random every time :(
If you didn't have the chance to see the endings and would like to know, please check the page of the game.
I posted a video of the two endings there.
Thanks again for playing!
The audio design is amazing, I really loved it.
The game design is smart: with just a few elements you managed to create a very playable experience. The only thing I didn’t enjoy as much were the minigames based on randomness instead of memory. For example, I feel like the gun minigame should have been the final one, because it creates a pretty heavy barrier and can discourage players after many failed attempts. Same for the dice game ; after about 20 tries without winning once, I stopped playing.
That said, there’s something about pixel art that makes horror especially intriguing, and you used it extremely well.
To me, you’re one of the potential winners of this Jam. Thank you for your work, and for teaching us something in the process!
Thank you very much for the comment, it is really appreciated!
Yeah, I can 100% relate to your comment, when I was testing it I lowered the attempts per game to one, but I wanted the final game to have 3 per each "station".
When the game jam was extended one day, I added the pause menu and I tried to also add a "easy mode", which you would enable for the next respawn (only one attempt per station), but I came accross a few issues and could not add it to the submission :( Have you seen the endings? If not I can record them and add it to the game entry as a spoiler for those where the random is too random.
Again, thank you very much for playing! :)
Sadly didn't make it to the end, but please do, even in private, i will gladly see!
Hi, I recorded and uploaded both endings to Youtube.
I have added them to the game's page for you or any person interested to watch it: https://neverfeeder.itch.io/liberation
Thank you and wish you a great day! :)
Seen it and loved it. The scene composition after leaving the rails really gives you a " wow " moment.
For now is the game I liked the most in this Jam.
Are you a solo dev or it was teamwork?
Thank you very much, your comment means a lot to me. It is like the first time I have a "finished" game. I'm a solo dev :)
me too brother! It was an awesome work, solo-dev to solo-dev. If you'll want to keep in contact eith me, add me on discord, you can find me in the pizza doggy channel.
What I love about this game is the sound effects that make it come alive, the sound of breathing that makes the player feel immersed in the world. Then there's the beautiful 3D art that makes it even more unique. And don't forget the smooth animations. Keep up the good work!
Thank you very much for the comment! This was my first attempt at doing some animations like this so I'm really happy that you liked it. Thank you very much for playing the game! :)
Great art as well as unsettling endings as well as the 'ride out' adding to the experience! The detail with the printed numbers on the uniforms was a great touch, along with the 'hosts' each having a unique personality show through! The devil is in the details, and you nailed 'em!
Glad you noticed the numbers in the uniforms :) Initial idea was to have a lot of different textures and make it change after every respawn. But I'm not that experienced texturing yet :( Thank you very much for playing!
Thank you very much!! It is really appreciated!
